Update: I did have someone reach out from the company named Andy to explain their pricing and…read moreoffered a solution to make things right in my eyes. The pricing isn't by hourly, but by a software they use to find the best rates for the job required. Ultimately, I've voiced my concerns of how that system works and what I think could change but they are sticking with the way the price structure works, as it works for them. I am happy with the solution that was offered to me, and would use this company again, but more so for serious issues that require an expert to come out. When booking the appointment, it was explained to me that it was $85 to have the team come out, and an additional $125 for diagnostic of the situation of my leaky pipe, which could be used towards the maintenance cost. The determination made by the technician is that the pack nuts needed to be screwed tighter, and it took the technician less than 2 minutes to do so. For this labor, I was charged $220, and the charge is not itemized, it is just marked as misc. - and I had no option to just tighten it myself, as it already cost me $125 for the technician to diagnose the issue. Since I was charged $220 for 2-3 minutes of labor, that's about $6600 per hour that they charge. If we did just the $95 on top of the diagnostic, that's $2,850 per hour for their labor. I understand they are a business and I am not saying I expected the work to be free, but for the fact it was an additional $95 for him to tighten the pack nuts in 2-3 minutes is crazy. I asked about why it costs so much / the charge couldn't be a flat $125 since it was a simple solution, the technician told me it was a liability if he didn't charge me for his work, and since he had to screw TWO pack nuts, that's where the extra charge came in. If you go through this company, just expect a labor cost of $47.50 per minute.

I got home with it and apparently did not check it good enough, I found the main seam in the side was shredded beyond repair, so I just threw it out. Not worth my time and money to return, First time I ever came across this conundrum, My bad luck. Just really look a lot at all items bought, I have been buying from thrift stores too many years and had great experiences, remember Caveat Emptor, buyer beware. (Sorry if I butchered that, but you get the idea) lol.

I visited this store regularly for the past couple of years (1-2x weekly), but after a recent…read moreexperience, I will be taking my business elsewhere. I brought a basket of items totaling between $80-$100 to the register, including an item of clothing that was already marked at a fairly high price. The cashier looked at the item and immediately accused me of swapping the price tag for a lower one. She actually walked away from the register mid-transaction to go check the prices of other similar clothing items on the floor. When she returned, she told me the price on my item was "the lowest one." When I asked what the typical price was, it turned out to be only about two dollars more than what the tag said. She refused to sell it to me, and made it VERY loud and clear what she was accusing me of in front of the large group of shoppers in line behind me. The idea that I would swap a tag to save two dollars (on a basket full of items I was ready to buy) is completely nonsensical. Aside from the fact that I would never swap a tag and I was an extremely regular customer here, it is outlandish for a thrift store to look at an item that is already priced high and decide on the spot that it needs to be jacked up even further. You got the inventory for free. It's one thing that thrift prices are inflating across the board, but it's another to have workers for a supposed charitable organization publicly accuse a loyal customer with zero proof or reason. I can't imagine how humiliating that experience would be for someone on a strict budget to endure in front of a store full of people. There are plenty of other thrift stores in Grand Rapids that support great causes without treating their regular shoppers with hostile accusations and absurd markups at the register. I strongly suggest supporting those instead.

I visited this location to drop off items to a storage unit, and was severely appalled with the…read morelevel of disrespect I was spoken to by an employee, who I believe may have been a manager. I was sitting in my car, and less than 2 minutes passed before this employee came up to my window and aggressively went off how I'm not allowed to have my vehicle running. I immediately turned my vehicle off, as I was unaware that that extremely short period of time, that I hadn't yet even gotten out of my car, would be such a significant issue. I do understand and recognize that there are risks for leaving your car running unattended - the garage door has not yet shut and again, very brief period of time. Despite my immediate compliance and agreeing to shut off my car, this employee continued to honestly harass me as to how this was such a major risk and wouldn't even let me get a word in. I had to say "okay" numerous times, and car was turned off, and she kept aggressively bombarding me how "it's not allowed" and unsafe and how "once she closes that garage door, the carbon monoxide will set off the alarm which will take her an hour to shut off." Again, I want to emphasize that I do understand how this could be a risk if enclosed space and continuously running. I've worked in customer service for years, and I know it's a tough field. But I have never felt more disrespected by a store employee than this experience. There was zero reason to be so disrespectful and aggressive with a customer. If I had had the time, I would have went inside and complained then. National Storage, please train your staff on proper etiquette and even conflict management. This was absolutely uncalled for.
