2/14/26 Purpose My study groups Team event. Fourteen of us from BCC did a Community volunteering activity to pack box food for children in need. Today we are focusing on specific overseas underserved villages and dietary needs of the children. Parking 5/5 Abundance of private parking Facilities 5/5 Very impressive building, large well suited for Feeding My Starving Children's mission. Teams which can be families, business teams etc may sigh-up in advance to be scheduled to participate in a meaningful and needed service for fighting hunger. Our day began in their Large group welcome and information room. Run by a great orator of their organization we learned what we were going to do and who would be receiving the product of our labor. Very nicely done! Surrounding this great room was the organizations special store. Items available for purchase were made in many of the countries they serve. Packing room 5/5 After dawning head and facial hair nets and gloves we were organized in sub team groups to a specific job. Activities/Effort 5:/5 in the progressive line from bulk dry food products to measuring, funnel dumping into bags to scale to add or remove product to meet bag weight requirements the to a sealing operation and final case building and taping. Teamwork 5:5 There must have been 8-10 teams with ~14 a team in a fun and motivational competition to maximize the Total food each two hour shift could produce. I enjoyed how our team with some ASU students developed teamwork that was flexible. Event take-away 10/5 Facts about food shortages and malnutrition are real. Child development is impacted both physically and psychologically. There are nations like ours who have organizations like Feed My Starving Children who have the networks, logistics, raw food based sources that utilize nutritional targets with environmentally stable ingredients. What we were shown today is the manual labor needed to meet the output requirements to feed those in need can be accomplished by organizing people of all colors, creeds and religions come together to serve a common goal, Feeding Starving Children. Everyone can benefit from moving out of your comfort zone by sacrificing 2-4 hrs to serve others, and to send a fundamental message to those around the world of Hope and Love through food. And in the process lean how you can work well with others from a wide spectrum of society for a higher cause. Get your families, work colleagues neighbors etc together and have fun helping! Amazing! Very structured, organized, and clean! Employees were amazing and helpful. Only thing I suggest is maybe don't have a quiet person in the warehouse explaining how to do things without a mic- could barely hear her over the chatter of other groups and just static of the air. The introduction went smooth, warehouse is my favorite!!! Lots of moving around, heavy lifting, and quick thinking. This is a great organization to be part of if you want to volunteer, especially for a Christian business! They offer anyone who wants, to pray over the food boxes at the end of your shift (optional) they also have a "gift shop" which is all around you as you come in, so you can purchase goods made in other countries and know the labor is being fairly paid for! Everything priced well! 29¢ is what it takes to make one meal for a child, so every donation is significant, no matter how small! FMSC is a great place to volunteer at to help give back to communities all around the world where food is not always available, especially to children. The FMSC volunteer site is in great condition and has streamlined the process for putting together the MannaPak meals, which consist of simple, dry ingredients that provide essential vitamins and minerals. The company I work for volunteers here once a year and it's always a fun time. Hair nets and gloves are required and no jewelry can be worn. There are free lockers available to store things in while you work. Before starting, a video is shown and a short orientation is given. Lots of different positions are available here including warehouse jobs, scooping, sealing and packaging. There are usually multiple groups volunteering at once, so they'll make it into a competition to see who can pack the most bags. Music is usually playing too which helps make the experience better. Afterwards, they go over the results and tell everyone how mang bags weeds packed. There's also an opportunity to donate money. FSMC also has a store on site with hand made gifts from all over the world which is another super cool way to support this organization and the people. read more

We have been supporting FMSC for years! This organization helps provide meals to starving children all over the world. My family and friends love serving here. FMSC does not receive government funding and is entirely supported by donors. Although the organization is Christian-based, volunteers do not need to be Christian. There are tasks available for all ability levels. Since I fractured my foot, I've been able to do a seated task labeling bags and my kids are able to join me. Time flies by quickly here. I also love that they send follow-up emails showing where the food we packed was sent and whether it reached its destination! They even have a shop with handmade items from various countries that make great gifts and help provide even more meals to starving children. read more

We've volunteered here several times but I didn't post a review so it's about time I did so. It was so wonderful to volunteer and do something good with good friends while they were in town. They had not done anything like it so it was a nice to try something new and different for them. Wish we had thought about it much earlier so we could have brought more friends with us. Volunteering here truly inspired them to look for similar types of programs when they return home. Every encounter we have had with FMSC staff is aways positive because they are all so cheerful and encouraging! The entire process is very well organized so everything always flows so smoothly. The items in the artisan areas are so cute and it's great to know that my purchase supports the people that make the items and also helps offset the cost of the food we pack at our sessions. One thing I wish that could be changed is for the doors to be opened sooner. It isn't always an issue if you arrive just before your packing session. However, when the weather outside is extreme having to wait outside for so long is a deterrent for volunteering. Unfortunately, there is no bathroom in the waiting area or outside the entrance. I do a lot of volunteer work and have served here at Feed My Starving Children on several occasions. They make it real easy to gather a group of people together for a couple of hours of service. They also make it fun by making it a little competitive and playing music while you work. FMSC's mission is to help prevent malnourishment for those at risk in the countries that they partner with. Volunteering is very simple. You can sign up for different time slots on their website. The minimum age for volunteering is 5 years old. Once you arrive and check in, you are shown a quick video of who and what FMSC does. You then put on your hairnet and spend the next two hours packing "Mannapacks" in their warehouse. These rice packs are an excellent source of protein, carbohydrates and key nutrients that are culturally acceptable worldwide for anyone over the age of one. Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit faith based organization and allows you an opportunity to pray over the crates of rice packs that are going out. Afterwards, the staff will let you know how many mannapacks were made and how many people they will feed. There is merchandise from different countries in the front that you can purchase. You also have an opportunity to donate to the organization if you want to contribute financially. I really enjoy volunteering here. I think feeding hungry kids is a noble endeavor and I thank them for all of their efforts. They are a Christian charity and I am an atheist. We can work together to better the world. I try to volunteer here once a month and I always feel better after helping out. My one criticism is that a few times I've gone, the employees did a poor job of splitting up the groups which lead to having too many people at a station - 9 when a station can be manned with 7. The scoopers were on top of each other. This was at several stations and they could have opened another station to bag more food. read more

I was recently a chaperone with my daughter's fourth grade class on their field trip to volunteer at FMSC and wow - I was blown away by this wonderful organization. Katie welcomed our group and her energy was amazing... She shared a bit about the organization and laid down the rules for the work we'd be doing. We broke up into groups and got to work packing meals for children in an assembly chain like environment. Everyone had a job and did it well. Our group packed 108 boxes and 23,544 meals in 1.75 hours. This feeds 64 kids for a year. So rewarding. I was super impressed with this organization and highly recommend checking them out if you're seeking a meaningful way to provide service. I'll be back! read more

Wonderful place to volunteer. Registering is quick and easy. You get reminders via email the day before and the day of. You can easily update your volunteer date and time online. I had to do that at least once. You get greeted at the front and check in there with someone at the door. Then you check in again with someone at a table who gives you a group card number. After that you can check in via one of the computers against the wall. After that you sit on a bench and wait with others. There are lockers for you to store your purse or other items. They give a short presentation about the organization and how to do the volunteer jobs like sealing, weighing, and scooping. Then they ask everyone to wash their hands in advance of going to the packing stations. At the packing station you can pack the bags and call out the filled box number or you can be a bag sealer or you can be a weight checker or you can be a scooper. When you scoop you have to make sure the grains are level with the tops of the scoops and they can be leveled against the sides of the containers via compression. The bag sealer has to make sure grain is not caught in the seal otherwise it must be resealed. The weight checker must ensure that the bag weighs at least a certain amount or they must fill it with a little more grain and weigh it again before passing it along. The weight checker also holds the bag open under a little funnel to catch the food. There is a little stage for shorter people under the table to help them reach the grains to scoop into the bags. If you take photos or touch anything outside of the scoops or bags, then you must wash your hands. If the food falls anywhere on the table it can't be put into the bags. At the end you can do an optional prayer in another room or go ahead and wash your hands to sit back on the bench. They give another short presentation on hot many bags were packed and how much that would cost and how many kids would be fed. This place is located near the NE intersection of US-60 and Alma School. The entrance to the parking lot is a short distance North of W Holmes Ave. It is toward the East end of the parking lot. This is definitely a 5 star volunteer opportunity. Kids use it for service hours all the time. I am not sure if there is an age limit but they have some kids in there that look like they are about 5 or 6. The workers make it a very fun time and the time passes quickly. Things are very efficient so alot of meals are packed for kids (see photos) each session. There can be 3-4 people per packing table or up to 7-8 when things are busy. They also have Warehouse workers who walk around and move boxes and refill ingredients. You must be in high school to do the Warehouse. They also have labelers but we have never done that because it does seem boring to sit there and place labels. It does, however, give people who cannot stand or walk around for 1.5 hours an opportunity to help out. You sign up online. The process is simple but spots fill up quickly, especially Friday and Saturday so sometimes you have to plan pretty far in advance to get times. They also have a store with things made from different places where the food is sent. They do have some interesting things which can make for good and unique gifts. read more

This is a great organization! My granddaughters 6th grade school class went there twice now to volunteer and I was privileged to be one of the drivers. The workers do a great job showing you how to do your "job" and are very kind. It was very humbling to see how many children are so desperate for food and I will be volunteering soon again. read more

I came here with a church group. Most of them have been coming here to volunteer for years. This was my first time. Not knowing what to expect I thought I'd be packing boxes of donated food. After a short presentation about the FMSC mission and a few simple directions I had a clear understanding of what we were doing and how it was helping starving children. There are hungry children here in this country, but children are dying of starvation in other parts of the world. That's the core focus of FMSC. We packed small bags with rice and other nutritional supplements and placed them in boxes to be shipped all over the world. Some groups make a competition of it trying to pack the most boxes. I was part of a group that wasn't so competitive. I was glad to give an hour and a half of my time to help feed starving children. I will volunteer again even if it is on an individual basis. read more

So FMSC isn't your normal kinda Yelp business. It's a non-profit(?) organization for helping to feed children and families that are facing good-insecurity around the world. They have their own meal packs that people and organizations can volunteer to help pack. It's a nice team-building and volunteer experience where you know you are dedicating your time and money to a good cause. They only have a small area of items for sale, and those are handmade from areas that FMSC helps. If you don't have time to volunteer to help pack food here, buying some things would also help. If you want to give back to the world community by doing something besides or in addition to giving money, but have time limitations, this is the place for you. By donating just a few hours, we were able to assist in putting together meal packs for developing countries where food is literally saving starving children. Starts with a short presentation of what's required. No jewelry, not essential to have a food handlers card. Hair has to be pulled back & put up-hair nets are provided. Work hour times are in two hour blocks and it goes by incredibly fast. Make sure you call ahead to book your date and time. Let them know how many will be in your groo! When we were there, there was two charter buses of people and a group of school kids. We were able to produce enough volume to feed 115 children during our visit. The facility is very organized, clean, and friendly. I really like the concept of this place! I opted to do labeling because I can't stand for long periods without my back hurting. Every little thing done here makes a huge impact and you are reminded regularly of that. Bring a tissue, you can't watch the video at the end without shedding some tears. Tells individuals stories of how a meal/ food has impacted their lives. It's a Christian run organization, that accepts all faiths & their help, their welcoming & warm to everyone regardless. Great l, enthusiastic employees! Cute gift shop to browse after your charitable time. Donations from purchases also go towards these struggling countries. Feed My Starving Children has an incredible ministry of helping those less fortunate. Yes, they do feed "our" starving children!! I recently packed some bags of soup for distribution here. The financial institution I work for believes in doing these outreaches about once a month. The community is everything. And giving back, well... it's ingrained into it's culture and credos of every employee to participate. We have about a dozen non-profits we work with volunteering. So come, give up an hour or two. I absolutely LOVED volunteering with this incredible organization. The best part, September is Hunger Action Month, so if you have some free time to give back, head on in! They need you! The entire process is SO organized from the moment you walk in and sign in through their computers, to the orientation, to the actual packing process, to the recap at the end. I was so impressed with how clean their facility is and the methods they have in place to make the packing process simple for everyone. We had children under the age of 10 helping pack at our station. Amazing! We packed enough meals to feed 78 children for ONE YEAR in just under 2 hours. They also have a lovely storefront where they sell beautiful goods from artisans in the counties that they support. I purchased some gifts for friends and on the tags, it tells how many meals each gift provided. So heartwarming! Always looking for another opportunity to volunteer my time and energy to making this world a little bit better, along came a Yelp Helps event at Feed My Starving Children! Feed My Starving Children is a not-for-profit Christian organization dedicated to feeding starving children around the world! Our efforts on this particular day were for starving children located in Cambodia! Upon arrival, you check in on one of the handful of computers at the front of their facility. Then you grab a hairnet and take a seat for some helpful and fun instructions along with an informative video. After that, they ask volunteers which group they would like to be a part of - warehouse, labeling, or packing. The packers fill each "Manna Pack" with the necessary ingredients (vitamins, vegetables, rice, and soy - in that order) and then seal each pack and place 36 of them into each cardboard box for shipping to its destination. Warehouse volunteers have the job of ensuring that the packers have their needed supplies and that full boxes are carried out of their way so that they get to the next stage of the process. This is the job that I volunteered for and I thoroughly enjoyed my time doing so! I felt like everything about this experience was about working together as a team for a shared cause! On that point, I think this would be a great team-building exercise for any group in the corporate world or beyond. Feed My Starving Children is now located very close to where I live, so that only added to the experience for me. And I enjoyed this experience, the passion that the staff exuded, and being part of this organization's wonderful cause so much that I will DEFINITELY be back! My first time in Arizona, I am spending 5 weeks here while my daughter finishes her school requirements. I was looking to volunteer and came across the FMSC website. This organization is run really well and they welcome people of all ages and ethnicities. It is a positive and encouraging atmosphere and is easy to commit to since sessions are only 1 hour 45 minutes at a time and website is easy to navigate. You can see how many spots are open at each session and can go as a group or individual. I highly recommend this to anyone with children ages 5 and up as they can be a part of making food packs for starving children in third world countries. I love everything about Feed My Starving Children. FMSC is a Christian organization that prepares and packs rice, soy and potato based meals for malnourished children and families around the world. However, you do not need to be Christian to pack the food or volunteer. Depending on the size of the group there are several positions to do. They have packers, warehouse crew, and bag labelers. You can volunteer for any one of those while you're there. If they need bag labelers, that is a sit down job for those who can't stand for the 2 hour shift. During the introduction they briefly describe the organization, what you're packing, and who it will benefit. The after packing process shows a success story of a child who ate the packaged food. It is very touching and nice to see where the food went and how much it helps. I love coming here with family and friends!! This is for a good cause and a wonderful bonding time with people you know and will meet while volunteering!! They make it a competition to try to pack as many boxes as possible which makes it fun and most importantly helping children from all over the world!! There are many activities at each station. You can stay at the same role throughout the packing session or you can change roles with the people at your table depending on how your group wants to do it. I've been to several locations in the past but this one is the local permanent establishment. Staff are super friendly and helpful. I like that you can take a different role in the process every time you visit. They're able to accommodate all ages and levels of physical ability. They are a faith-based organization, but they don't force anyone to take part in anything religious. They play classic rock and pop hits instead of just Christian contemporary music. They do an ending prayer, which I enjoy taking part in, but most people leave before then. They also sell products from around the world made by people in countries they serve. Their goal is to support individuals making a living wage and break the cycle. I LOVE this beautiful non profit and ministry for kids and their communities, around our world. They truly have a heart for people and meeting their basic needs, and mostly importantly their spiritual needs. I've volunteered in their food packing program multiple times over the years and always walked away touched by what they are doing and sharing a small part in it. They also have an artisan store where you can purchase hand made jewelry, houseware and decor, and my favorite, their clay mugs from Haiti. These mugs are made out of the same clay that Haitian Mom's used to make 'cookies' with clay and a little bit of salt. They fed it to their kids to fill their stomachs so they wouldn't feel so hungry. FMSC has helped those same Mom's create a revenue stream by using the clay for coffee mugs, sold in various colors. I own about 10 of these mugs and love to share them with friends as a prayer reminder for us both. Needless to say, I love, support and appreciate this ministry and highly recommend it! read more

Incredible team here at FMSC! Everyone is so friendly, professional, and an excellent communicator. I had a great time working in the warehouse and felt guided every step of the way. Although this is a Christian organization, Christianity isn't forced down your throat which I greatly appreciate. What can I say about this organization that has not already been said?! Signed up for Saturday morning of filling boxes with food packs for children in need throughout the world. It was an energizing morning where everyone is so excited to be there and to help. I recommend this for groups, individuals and families! I have read some of the negative reviews and I will say they do not hard sell you to donate money. They are extremely appreciative of the time you give and give you opportunites at the end to offer the type of support whether it be additional volunteering or monitary.
