If I could give zero stars, I would. Avoid this accountant at all costs. My family hired William Mease of Master Accounting and Tax Service to help with my elderly mother's taxes. She is in her 70s, has dementia, and needed a professional who could patiently and competently navigate the process. Instead, we encountered an accountant who was lazy, dismissive, and shockingly unprofessional. From the very beginning, Bill failed to read or absorb the information I provided, forcing me to repeat myself multiple times. Rather than listening or problem-solving, he fired back condescending emails filled with attitude. At one point, when pressed for guidance, his response was: "There is nothing further I can do for you. You will need to find a tax preparer that doesn't know what they are doing in order to get the return filed. Good luck!" That's right -- instead of doing his job, he essentially told my family to go hire someone "who doesn't know what they are doing" if we wanted the return completed. What kind of professional speaks to clients like this? This wasn't a one-off slip in tone -- it was a pattern of arrogance, laziness, and outright neglect. Bill showed zero compassion for my mother's condition, no willingness to problem-solve, and no respect for our time or circumstances. He seemed more interested in blaming us than actually providing solutions. An accountant's role is to help clients through complicated situations, not abandon them when things aren't simple. Bill made it clear that he doesn't have the patience, professionalism, or empathy to handle real-world clients with real-world challenges. Prospective clients: take this review as a warning. If you entrust your sensitive financial matters to William Mease, expect rudeness, blame-shifting, and zero accountability. There are plenty of capable, compassionate accountants in Arizona -- do not waste your time or money here. EDIT: I appreciate that Mr. Mease took the time to respond, but notice what he doesn't do: he never denies sending the unprofessional tirades I quoted above, including telling my family to "find a tax preparer that doesn't know what they are doing" and ending with "good luck!" That's because he did say them, in writing, and his response here conveniently sidesteps his own words and tone. Throughout this entire process, my messages to him were cordial and respectful, even as I had to repeat myself multiple times. His replies, on the other hand, were consistently dismissive, combative, and unhelpful. The problem wasn't that he insisted on accurate information -- any competent accountant should. The problem was his failure to communicate, failure to read the documents provided, and his repeated choice to lash out with condescending emails instead of guiding us toward solutions. Professionalism isn't just about refusing to "compromise integrity." It's also about having the patience, empathy, and communication skills to work with clients in difficult situations. I had a nightmare of an experience with a different tax service that wouldn't answer my phone calls once I dropped off my tax documents in March and waited until the last minute to file and fired me as a client the day of April 18th even though they promised to file an extension if it was needed...leaving me without my original documents and nothing done the day everything was due. Luckily I had made physical copies before dropping off my documents to that other service and I found these guys on Yelp. Evelyn was very friendly and booked me an appointment right away and offered their help to file an extension and prepare my taxes at a later date. Bill saw me in person hours later to explain everything and what to expect. When he saw how simple my filing was he offered to do it right then and there so it would all be resolved. Despite hitting a few roadblocks with getting all the information needed from me, he patiently helped me figure it all out and ended up getting it all filed. After a horrific experience elsewhere and this office's kind and quick service, I will be returning here in the future. Instead of being insulted and ignored, I was treated with kindness and respect even though I am not a big money account. Here's my experience - as a new customer to this establishment, I received an initial consultation appointment within a few days of contacting - wonderful! I emailed & spoke with Evelyn and she was always pleasant - no issues with her at all! On 3/18/22, I met with Bill to discuss my tax needs & my expectation of getting my 2021 tax return filed by the tax day deadline of 4/18/22 - this is my first time seeking outside tax help, as my situation as gotten a bit more complicated with 1099 side jobs in addition to regular W2 wages. Nothing crazy complicated by any means...just cumbersome enough that my time not doing them myself, would be money well spent. In the consultation, I had the feeling he was interviewing me as oppose to me interviewing him, to decide if I was in the right hands - I came prepared with all my paperwork and at one point, he commented on how "large" the stack of papers was, like it was too much for him...ummm, yeah I have my organized papers in order and have every possible document....granted, maybe some things I wouldn't necessarily need, but as a tax professional goes, I would have thought you'd rather have a client with too many papers versus not having the necessary items. Oookaaay that's fine - apparently he's intimidated by the amount of paperwork - but hey, what do I know? This is my first time with a tax professional...maybe this is the norm. After more questions from my side - almost like pulling teeth - I had to ask, "ok, so what do you expect the damage to be? How much will you be charging me?" He literally snickered and clucked his tongue and responded with (I quote) "well it's not gonna be cheap"....ummm oookaaay...After pulling out his calculator, he said it would be about $500. Great, wonderful, I didn't care - I just wanted my taxes to be done on time and off my mind! We wrapped up the consultation and he stated "it'll probably be the first week in April" (meaning when my taxes would be done)....or so I thought. Wonderful! I didn't expect it to take only a few days, especially as a new client coming in mid March - as long as it was done by 4/18, I'd be happy. I walked out of the consultation not super happy about the interaction...frankly, he didn't seem interested in doing my taxes...but again, this is my first time with a tax professional so maybe this is the norm. Surely he could have nicely (or not nicely - fine!!) declined me as a client, if he wasn't interested in accepting me as a client - right? I dismissed my gut feeling. So the first week of April came & went...April 1st was a Friday so "the first week of April" actually has 2 extra days! Now it's April 8th and I've not heard a peep...ok so I call and speak with Evelyn - she tells me Bill is working on them and my return "will be done Monday...or Tuesday at the latest". Ok fine. Now it's Wednesday April 13th (one day past the supposed "Tuesday at the latest") and again, I've not heard a peep. Again, I have to call and speak to Evelyn...after checking with Bill, she said my return will be done "over the weekend and Monday at the latest"...ummm Monday is the deadline. And could I really believe it WOULD even be Monday?!? I've heard this line before... Don't tell me 3 times they'll be done by X date...then after X date comes & goes, no courtesy call or email goes out..really? I'm done. I'm soured. I'll take my business elsewhere. Thanks but no thanks. Rude. Unprofessional. Untrustworthy. Yes I understand an extension can be filed...not the point and certainly not what I was told. I cannot review the actual tax work as none was done. All I can share is my experience. I should have listened to my gut feeling and immediately gone elsewhere after the initial consultation. Well, what can be said about Bill and the team at Master Accounting. This will be the second year I have had my taxes prepared by Bill, and he is nothing short of a consummate professional and genuinely a master accountant and tax preparer. He is always courteous, professional, and very quick with the turnaround. YMMV, but he got me one of the most significant returns I think I have ever had in my humble tax-paying life. When I first started my business, I spoke to many different accountants that made me feel like my business was small and unworthy of their time and attention. I thought my search would end with me working with someone I wasn't going to like until I came across Bill. He has never treated me like a small fry and has always made himself available when I had a question. Nothing has been done, deadlines are due, and the secretary tells me they can no longer do my taxes. I read the reviews for Bill's Master Accounting and Tax Service so I made an appointment to have my tax return done. Bill looked at my paperwork and said it could be done in a short period of time. I was not impressed with the results and it caused a lot of anxiety when I saw my tax return. He had me owe thousands of dollars. Bill should have been honest with me at the first meeting and I should have never signed the documents knowing that they were wrong. I had to hire another tax service company to file an amended return and once that is processed by the IRS, I will be receiving a refund. Because of the first return being done wrong, my stimulus check was very small. I will never use his services again!! I would give it zero stars if i could!! read more

He thoroughly explains everything to me and answers any questions I have, even throughout the year. I have 3 Master's Degrees including one in Managerial Accounting & Finance from UCLA. Earlier in my career I taught Managerial Accounting at MCC. I developed a debilitating disease and am now disabled, however I still can determine an outstanding accountant. Things started off OK enough with Bill. However, the customer service I received at this establishment left me wondering if he was working for me or the IRS. Understandably, there are certain things that are out of an accountants control, which I understand. When I pointed out errors in my return to Bill, instead of offering to fix the issues (which I would have happily paid for) he accused me of being a criminal. As things progressed and deadlines approached, things started to go down hill fast. I received a letter from the IRS stating that I owed about three times the amount that we had sent in on my amended return. I gave Bill the POA and let him contact the IRS on my behalf. He came back first stating that my only option was to fill out the IRS reply letter and pay. When I questioned this, it changed to I could only pay or partition the court. I then resent him some paperwork that he neglected to file with my taxes, to which he replied that it would only save me a small amount and then became very defensive about his tax preparation. The correct way to respond would have been to either fix and refile the amended return (which you can do up to a three year statute of limitations) or at least quote me a price for the refile. I took my return to another CPA before the deadline and he was able to realize about 3000 dollars of additional tax savings that Bill had not. This is the last time I will ever use an accountant that is not a CPA. read more
