My partner and I decided, LETS TRY SALSA. I'm at a loss for words. I've taken MANY classes in my life, not for salsa, but for a variety of other things! This experience crushed my heart on multiple occasions. I can handle constructive criticism... but it got to the point where I felt like all of my mis steps were pointed out, or judged. The instructor asked the class if anyone had taken a salsa class before, and I was the only one that had no experience.... Therefore, I believe that would let the Instructor know that I may need extra assistance, or simply that I wouldn't have confidence in the class, due to having no knowledge. (Also surrounded by people that have had prior classes) I was nervous from the jump! I showed up as directed to sign in at 12:40 for a 1pm class! The class that took place before the 1pm hadn't ended yet, and went til 1:30, no problem-- I'm understanding, I get that sometimes things run behind-- no big deal. while I sat on the side I watched the students and one in particular may have had special needs! NOT ONCE did I see the Instructor try to assist or correct this student! (to help for the students gain)! The neglect rolled over into the next class with this same student and it broke my heart. The student also blurted out a number during the count loudly, and another GROWN WOMAN WHO SHOULD KNOW BETTER LAUGHED AT HIM! And nothing nor anyone did anything but me! My heart aches!!! And the student at this time was my partner, and it was so unfortunate to witness! I'm so sad, because I don't think I'll ever try a salsa class or anything related again. I left crying! & I am traumatized. SUPER unprofessional. read more

Went to an introductory Salsa class. Arrived early, as requested, and then waited for the class to start as the previous class was running late. Not a big deal. I understand schedules can get backed up. As we began the class, the instructor asked how many people were first timers. Turns out, this class was actually a "lesson 3 or 4" class and not the Intro lesson 1 class we booked. Which left me and my partner the only ones with no previous class experience. The instructor made a point to let the class know that we'd have to "quickly" review lessons 1 and 2 for the newbies. While I appreciated the thought, this is really where the problem resides. The delivery and tone of spoken words are extremely important. There are obviously many people that suffer from anxiety, some more severely than others. My partner happens to be one of them. While instructor Jonathon cant possibly know of every person's background that comes to class, he definitely knew after she told him, directly, in front of the class, because she was tense and he singled her out to just relax and told her there's no anxiety in the room. We got thru this exchange and continued class. The instructor then got frustrated apparently at some people not getting a certain step and said, here ill turn sideways and try it like this so you all can see. As he began the move, a few students, including my partner, started footing the steps as he did them. He stopped, singled her out again and said, im facing this way.... no... im facing this way..) obviously frustrated that she was still facing forward. .... As was the entire class. He followed it up with telling her dont u think it might be smarter to face the same way I am if youre gonna try it. (Of note, do not forget the instructor has faced the class face to face for the entire class to this point....not facing the same way) it was at this time that another student, young man, that appeared to be Special Needs, was also trying to count the steps and messed up and blurted out the right step correcting himself and one of the other students loudly laughed and giggled at him. The entire class heard this and nothing was done or said....until my partner asked the older woman not to laugh at him which resulted in rolled eyes and under the breath comments.. in fact, I dont believe there was any attempt to "teach" or correct this student throughout the class . I am not saying that he should be treated differently than anyone else, but am definitely saying he deserves the same respect given to others. No one else was being laughed at but him, everyone else was being helped and shown steps but him, and no one else was being talked AT the way my partner was. We quietly decided that maybe this wasnt the establishment for us and went to gather our belongings and leave. Overall, my disappointment grows even further knowing that the establishment and Instructor are religious and proudly display and voice their support throughout class and on the walls, but fell short of practicing those words, at least from where i stood. . I had very high hopes when I walked in and saw the young man participating and even rotating partners. Unfortunately that did not prove to be the case. We should probably have see the red flags when the very first the instructor said to my partner when we walked in was, "ok sign in right here and dont worry i just need that info im not gonna stalk you. Wanna see my business license, its right here" read more

Loved my experience here! I initially bought a class through Classpop for the Beginner Salsa Partnerwork class but once I got to the studio, saw that first class was free so I was money wasted through Classpop. It was not the fault of this dance studio! They offer unlimited classes for $60 a month which is great. I am not a dancer at all and was nervous for the class but it was amazing. Jose reminded us to have patience with ourselves and the class and you really felt that within the class. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful with newcomers like myself. Jose the owner/instructor is a professional and master in the arts of 'social' Latin dancing. He teaches primarily three dances and with primary emphasis on Salsa ' On 2' (New York Style) popularized by his 'Master' and teacher Eddie Torres (AKA Mambo King). I believe once you reach a level of competence and understanding of 'On2' fundamentals it won't be too hard to transition to salsa ' On 1'. His classes are structured in one hour timeframes with focus on footwork and partnering fundamentals which include the 'Lead' and 'Follow' roles. The school offers flexibility in taking as many classes as you like, as long skill level is within your reach. A great value for the tuition cost. I have been with this establishment since mid January and attend three days a week participating 6-9 classes a week. Hello our expirce was a weird a.f so we went to the bachata class and his previous class was running late do to their lack of communication. One of the students comes up to me and ask me to record her and I'm new their so I was like why not... right away I get 3 students yelling that that was for after class. I get that lady was a little frustrating then the expert dancer start to call her out in sarcastic ways (thir was also a languange barrier).I belive he's the owner on how he stressed about 20 min to the other students on how they had to pay on time th. During the class their was a point where we had to twist the wrist of our partner to spin them and an ocation my partner was a little more stiff I'm new by the way and I'm not sure if what Im Doing is right so the expert demostrates but rough Handel's this student and twisted her arm and told me your not going to hurt her when he asked her if it hurt she said yes and he stress on if it hurt it was because she was making it hurt in resisting. On other funny thing that happened was that he was telling us how the first class was free when we got charged on line and we asked him about it he said it was do to it being a bachata class when we had read that it was part of the trial . I was really exited and I just felt we rushed trew everything. read more
