We often put together trips ourselves, but for Australia/New Zealand we needed an expert in the area to help us. We started by first looking at some tour companies. (My cousins used one to go to the same destination.) But none had some of the things we wanted, and I needed a few accommodations. I found three firms online that specialized in this area and that drew my interest. I emailed asking for quotes. Two called and I spoke to the agents, outlining my requests. The Aspire agent responded to a query from my husband on Zicasso. And I let her know (via email and then on the phone) what we needed. She listened to me and provided a quote with items and times that I had requested at a reasonable price. So she was our top pick, and we began to work together to cull the best items for the trip. We never paid a fee until we were ready to book the tour. I worked with Sharon T. And she was amazing. We got the cities we wanted, in the order we wanted, and with a few special accommodations. (For example: With a recent knee surgery, I couldn't climb the 300 steps at the Sydney Opera House, so she booked us an accessible tour. I sometimes have tummy trouble early in the mornings, so mostly I wanted tours that started at 10 am or later. I did have to give in to early times in a few instances, because they were not avoidable. I even had a specific order to the cities we visited, because I wanted to end the trip in Auckland, New Zealand, where we planned to meet with a friend we hadn't seen in more than 30 years.) Suffice it to say that Sharon and I exchanged tons [hundreds? :-)] of emails from May through the end of the trip in October. I even emailed her at least three or four times while on the 19-day trip, and I always got an immediate response (if the timing was right with the 15-17 hour difference). As a former assistant travel editor for a major daily newspaper, I may be more particular than most people and harder to please. Aspire (Sharon) was patient, detailed, and offered stellar service. One thing I did not realize that travel agents are open encyclopedia of knowledge. Location I chose was fine, but it appears that hotel I researched was not as good as travel sites made it appear. Per owner's recommendation, I took another property nearby. It was much easier to access the beach, resort was newer, cleaner, and had better pool. I have to say I loved personal touch that Vacation Spirit, and their owner offers. My job planning future vacations just got much easier. We picked up OurBus right across from the Javits Center, in the middle of the street…read more The storage bins were labeled, one for Baltimore, the other for DC. He scanned our ticket and we boarded. The bus was pretty full, so we ended up sitting separately. The above head storage bins are kind of tight, so I had to take something out of my over stuffed backpack to manage to wiggle it in. While my purse sat on my lap. I liked the foot rest and the hook on the handle on the seat in front of me. Trash bags were hung here and there. Looks like they also provided small bottles of water for us, though we had to grab those ourselves. The electric plugs didn't seem to work, but perhaps the ubs plugs in the ceiling did. Our driver was a great communicator. He set expectations so we knew that we had a 20 min rest stop before arriving at Baltimore, and pointed out things to help us to pay attention and to get back to the right bus. He warned us that given current construction that we were sure to arrive later than what our tickets said, and gave us his best eta given the circumstances. Another passenger later commented that the bus bathroom was clean. We kind of ended up being dropped off on a brightly painted bridge in the middle of no where - perhaps on Maryland Ave?, by a bus stop. A short walk from Penn Station.

Terrible experience! Our group of 32 people waited for over…read morean hour in the rain for the bus to arrive. The bus that finally arrived was a 20-year-old beater. The transmission was bad, the alignment and suspension were shot, and the bathroom door did not latch. The suspension was so severely degraded that it audibly bottomed out on road bumps, causing motion sickness among multiple passengers. The transmission could not maintain speed on inclines, making the journey slow and stressful for everyone on board. The windshield wipers were so worn they could barely clear rain from the windshield (a serious safety hazard). Overhead storage bins would not latch, risking items falling on passengers, and the lighting inside most of them did not work. The spare tires were stored in a luggage compartment and had dangerously little tread remaining. We paid Rally/OurBus for what we were promised would be a newer luxury coach with ample luggage space and modern amenities. Instead, we got an old bus with no electrical outlets, damaged seat upholstery, and a bathroom that reeked before a single passenger had even used it. They sent us a vehicle that should not be in passenger service. When we sought a refund, we were bounced between Rally/OurBus (the broker) and All Aboard Express (the bus company), and now neither company will return our calls. Save yourself the headache and book elsewhere!
