The peanut butter & jelly is absolutely delicious!!! Brilliant!!!

I just adore this place so much, that I ALMOST wanna keep it a secret! But, I figure other folks deserve a good time too. The name is what made me curious, just had to check it out & first thing I noticed was that it's got an awesome atmosphere. Its quaint without being cramped, has cool stuff on the walls without being a messy jumble. Just a really welcoming vibe to it right off the bat. Always super clean, even before the whole virus situation. The bartender, Jill, is so sweet! She's got an impressive memory & obviously loves what she does and cares about the customer. It's our favorite bar to bop on into when we get to go out for a break from the daily crud. I was surprised to finally find a place that sells my favorite beer, Ace pear, haven't seen it anywhere else since moving back home from Texas. I also recommend the peanut butter beer, my Husband loves it. The peanut butter & jelly she made me totally blew my mind! I definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a clean, welcoming establishment that's not jam packed with obnoxious loud yelling drunks & druggies (I'm looking at you Whiskey Tavern *barf*) This place is the best!! Go check it out!!!

I know I should have written about this great little pub when I chanced upon it while they were first building it a few years ago, but quite frankly, after it opened I was hoping to keep its discovery to myself. When you visit, you will see why a body might want to keep this establishment to themselves. It's got a kind of magic about it. Something here makes you feel like you are one of just a lucky few that have stumbled through the door of boring reality and landed into a happy Secret Beer Garden of friendly bartenders/owners, great music, unusually artsy ambiance, and brilliant pints for a good price. You look around, amazed, and say nope, I'm not telling anyone about this - more beer for me. Off the beaten path a bit, this diminutive pub is a rare and happy find in a small casino city awash 24 hours a day with bland $1 PBR and Bud (barf) Not only does The Goat have a decidedly amazing selection of unique brew, it's apparent that the owners have lavished their little baby with much love, dedication and attention to detail. From the well-thought-out beer selection to the quirky local art for sale on the wall... from the amazingly hand-made bar (ask them about it sometime) to the hand painted bathroom ceilings, anyone can see this little surprise on the corner of the world's smallest, out-of-the-way strip of stores has been a labor of love. The owner's enthusiasm for and love of what they do is contagious; they unconsciously and effortlessly incite their customers fall in love with them, the pub and their beer choices. So I give up. This minuscule pub is such a huge powerhouse of good times, relaxation and excellent beer that it's just too mean of me to keep to myself any longer. *sigh* So go to The Feisty Goat some happy hour and ask Rob, Lucas or Heather what's on tap, or get yourself a delicious pint of something unusual from the bottle fridge. Not into brews? Then have them suggest a premium or unusual liquor of some kind (one night they had us try an Amarula Marula Fruit Cream Liqueur, made from berries that only grow on the plains of Africa, ohemgee, yum). Better yet, let them shake you up a martini (their Lemon Drop is quite seriously the best I've ever tasted). Then sit at that amazing bar, kick back and enjoy your drink and their excellent playlist, or play a quiet game of darts, or just snuggle with friends into a cozy, bedarkened nook for a nice natter without the incessant sound of slots. But whatever you do, don't mention to anyone that I told you about The Feisty Goat; I sorta kinda promised certain people I'd keep this great place our little secret. Ooops. Guess the Goat is out of the bag. o_O

    Love the goat art everywhere!

My friends and I are in town as a sort of reunion and the owners at the Feisty Goat were so friendly and welcoming. Full disclosure: when they chatted with us and found that we came from Idaho and California just to meet up with each other, they bought us a round of drinks. That was so lovely! From the outside, the bar looks a little lonely on a weeknight, tucked away in a quiet corner. To be honest, my friends and I hesitated for a moment before going in. But don't worry! The inside is comfortable and well-kept. It was a nice place to have drinks and relax. I appreciated the smoke-free policy and the fun art on the walls. I probably visit Carson City once every few months and I'll definitely be back. I'm happy to have found a cool local joint--maybe we'll even go back tonight!

Nice quiet bar. It's a bar bar. No loud bands. No loud jukeboxes. No kids in there listening to rap. It's just a really cool little bar.

Burger, pastrami sandwich, BLTA, fish & chips, and the brisket. The Tahoe IPA beer was great. Kids all ordered soft drinks, plenty of refills offered! We all enjoyed our meals, except brisket boy. He was expecting BBQ brisket, but the plate was more of a roast beef with gravy, mashed potatoes, and veggies. Fish & chips were pretty good, with 2 nice sized chunks of cod. The sandwiches were nice, burger solid! The fries were really good, seemed like fresh cut. When I looked at what others were enjoying, we observed that the wings look to stand out. Next time we'll explore wings & fries....and more beer! Service was attentive and the patio very pleasant!

The good: Our server was great. She was personable. But she did mislead us when describing how…read moreeverything on the menu was good. But at the same time, it would be silly to hear a server say bad things about the menu items to their guests. So, she was just doing her job. The bad - The food. Of all the things we ordered, the cheese curds were the best thing cuz...how could you go wrong with frozen items you throw in a fryer? Anyway, we also ordered the Fried Pickles. I enjoy fried pickles, but holy sh*t these were SALTY! These pickles were more like chips. They were actually light and crispy which is unusual as fried pickles are typically still soft and and keep their integrity after being fried in a batter. These, however were like, dehydrated pickles that were battered and deep fried. I really liked how crispy they were, but with how salty they were, we couldn't finish it. Chicken Pot Pie - one of the more popular dishes ordered. It looked great when presented. The top crust looked nice and thin like a cracker, but when I dug in, the filling was runnier than what I am used to. But more importantly, the flavor was off. I assume they use a frozen pie crust because it didn't taste buttery at all. It had a weird chemically taste. I missed having that rich buttery crust a pot pie should have. The filling didn't taste great either. Also, had a weird chemically taste to it. I almost think they use canned chicken based on the flavor and texture it had. I was so looking forward to a homey comforting pot pie. It's not often I get to eat one of these, but this one fell way short of my expectations. The Lamb Burger - My husband loves lamb and it's not often you see a lamb burger anywhere. He was so excited to have this, but was so disappointed after taking his first bite. He said it was so bland. I took a bite. And while it did taste of lamb, I agreed it lacked seasoning. Now, THIS needed some of the salt that were in those pickles. Lol! Foxy Fried Chicken - A panko fried chicken breast. It was good. Mashed potatoes were good and the veggies. I didn't expect this dish to be spicy though. I don't know if the cook went heavy handed on the pepper, but the veggies and mashed potatoes it was served with had a kick to them. Meh. All in all, we wouldn't return. There was nothing we had that made me feel like this place had potential and worth making another visit to. We did order quite a few things and everything, but the curds were lackluster and a disappointment.

Today we got the following: Special - Pulled pork on a pretzel bun with fries. Two orders. Wow, it exceeded my expectations. Well, I honestly did not have high expectations. I also like the nice touch of a fried pickle on top of the slider. Fish and Chips - My other buddy that was craving BBQ switched to this and loved it. Chicken Breast Sandwich - My healthy buddy. He was also not able to finish his fries. All of which was good. And I plan to come back for Happy hour in the future. Especially Wing Wednesdays! Ambiance - Larger than expected. I was a little disappointed that the special I had previously ordered wasn't available, since it was so delicious, but I tried the Salmon Tacos from the regular menu instead. The tacos are just absolutely delicious. After my meal, I had a little more work to do, so I was somehow convinced to order dessert. Cake and ice cream are my absolute favorite, and this cake was gluten-free, so I had to say yes. It was so good. The ice cream tasted homemade. The vanilla flavor did not taste artificial. So there we were. We…read morewanted to take a bike ride, have breakfast, and enjoy a beautiful spring day. We did all of that and we decided to have breakfast at the Overland. We knew it wasn't going to be crowded and the food will be fresh, but it was so much more than that. Overland is lucky to employ Tennessee, who might just be the best server in the Carson Valley. I grant you that we haven't been to every restaurant and we haven't had every server and so it could be hyperbole to try to tell you that he's the best, but we need to be sure to let you know that he is clearly in the top percentile of quality, local servers. Why you ask. He anticipated our every need, and so we always had water, always had coffee, and he cleared every single time he got near the table. His positive energy is infectious. Yes, I can hear you now, what about the food? My wife can, on occasion, high maintenance, and this was one of those mornings. She ordered the Eggs Benedict without the bottom bread plus one more whole extra Eggs Benedict, and Tennessee didn't flinch. I ordered the vegetarian omelette and I had side breakfast potatoes. All of it tasted great. I even tried the hollandaise sauce on my wife's eggs Benedict and it tasted fresh and tasty. So, I say give Tennessee a raise, and when you go to the Overland, hope that you get seated in his section because it will be an experience that you won't forget soon, and the food is very good. Somehow, this breakfast restaurant is flying under the radar on Saturdays and Sundays. They truly deserve to be packed as they have the formula for success, great service, good food, and a clean environment..
