Felines & Friends are fantastic! We met our future baby while visiting a cat cafe, keeping in mind we had visited many before and had maintained our streak of not adding to our home cat count of 2. Buddy (now Oso) was super friendly and kept coming up in conversation after our trip to Santa Fe. We finally relented and applied to adopt Oso via Felines & Friends. The process was easy but thorough and before we knew it, we were driving back down to Santa Fe from Colorado to pick up our new addition. The volunteers there couldn't be nicer and we were confident that we had his records to share with our vet. Oso is loving his best life with us in Colorado! Thanks to friends and felines for our new baby!

I am so grateful felines and friends exist. I had the pleasure of visiting their Santa Fe location to meet many cars available for adoption. I ended up adopting one of their cats from Petco, Elvira and renamed her Luna. She is such a spark in my life. She has grown so much into her personality and is such an amazing addition to my family. Felines & Friends is a volunteer based organization, and they take such amazing care of these cats. Each person I have met that works for F&F has been so caring and passionate about what they do. I am so grateful they are around, and that I was able to adopt such a beautiful cat from them.

    Frankie, adopted in 2023

I adopted Frankie from Felines and Friends in 2023 and later volunteered at the shelter. My experience was exceptional: the cats are well taken care of, the volunteers are friendly and truly care about the cats, and the facilities are clean and welcoming. I am forever grateful to Felines and Friends for rescuing both my cat and the countless other cats I saw transformed during their time at the shelter. If you want to adopt a cat in northern NM or are looking for a fun and rewarding volunteering opportunity, I highly recommend Felines and Friends!

All in all so grateful it was such a big area as our dogs had the place to themselves. It does get very muddy in the parking area so beware after rain or snow. I would liked to have more time here so the puppers could explore more but we were just passing through.

Last week I brought in a dog that came to my door crying, that I can only describe as "emaciated." I kept the dog overnight and observed that he was so hungry he literally was choking in his food. It was hours before he peed he was so dehydrated and drank lots of water. When I brought him to the shelter, the intake officer took a look at his body condition and said "omg that is extreme!" The dog was literally a skeleton. according to owners who claimed him, and dog was released to (the same day I brought him in) he was only "gone one day." No dog gets that thin in a day. My opinion is he was not being taken care of. Today I called the shelter to find out his status. I was told he was sent home to owners same day he came in. Evidently they did not have to account for the poor condition this dog was in! I thought this shelter advocated for the animals; clearly that is not the case. It will be a cold day in hell before I bring in an animal like the one I am describing. I will deal with it in a way that will truly help the animal. Wow, I almost donated to them.... ohhh nooo, not me, not ever. I have photos of this dog, but not posting because it is not helpful and it is downright shocking.

So far, I LOVE Dr Dougherty! She was compassionate & so gentle with my scared-of- vets pup. She helped us talk thru options for a dew claw issue we were having. Very efficient & friendly & helped me get the next visit scheduled QUICKLY. Their rates are the best I've found in Santa Fe & I love that they support the animals adopted here. They all seem to REALLY care about the well- being of BOTH the animals and their owners. GREATLY APPRECIATED! I have found my new vet in Santa Fe!

I got up the next morning and she hadn't moved at all and was barely responsive. Called the vet as soon as they opened, and they wouldn't see her. They confirmed that this was not a typical reaction but said they are by appointment only and they had no appointments until the next week. The urgent care vet was closed that day. Mosaic emergency vet was swamped. I called back Clare Eddy Thaw and explained and begged and they wouldn't even try to fit her in. I understand they are busy - but she was an established patient having a reaction to a medicine THEY gave her. As a result, I don't feel comfortable taking her there anymore. (Another vet she'd never seen before, had a cancellation and very compassionately agreed to see her and treat her that day, and she recovered. But that might not have been the case.)

I told them he's a German Shepherd and I didn't know exactly how old he was as he was a rescue. She said they'd call me back. They didn't. So I called again the next day and the girl on the other end started asking the same questions. I told her I'd already been through that. She told me I'd have to get a letter of reference from whatever shelter or rescue he came from. This seemed odd as I never had to do this with my other dog, also a rescued German Shepherd, at this place or at Wags and Wiggles in Tustin, CA or at Camp Bow Wow in New Orleans. I've never heard of this being a requirement ANYWHERE. So I called the director of German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County, and she shot off an email outlining his background and attesting to his sterling character that same day and which I forwarded to them immediately. So the next day I waited. And waited. At 1PM I called them. I told the girl they had received the required reference email. She told me that the manager hadn't read her email yet. Say what??? How would the girl behind the counter know whether or not the manager in her office had read her email? And it was 1PM and they open at 7AM. So again I was blown off. I suspected that this was a case of discrimination. So I called a friend and asked her to call and say she wanted to put her dog in their day care. I told her to tell them what I had told them except say her dog was a Golden Retriever. She did and the girl told her they'd be happy to set up an appointment right then and there. Infuriated, I called again and said I wanted to speak with the manager. The girl said: "Oh...this is Claire... " I said yes this is Claire and I want to speak to the manager!!! She put me on hold for about 5 minutes. Then the manager came on and said that she had received the email from GSROC and told me we could come in for our "evaluation" at noon the following Thursday. I'm thinking they believed requiring a letter of reference from a shelter or rescue would stop me dead in my tracks. Most public shelters are too big and busy to do this. Probably many rescues as well. They didn't bank on GSROC being as classy and professional as they are or that I volunteered with them for years. So now after all of this hassle and marching into a brick wall, I canceled our "evaluation" appointment. They only gave it to me because they knew I wasn't going to let it rest, and it's likely they'd reject my dog regardless over whatever preconceived prejudicial issues they obviously have. Shortly after, I took Geoffrey to Paws Plaza. No appointment was necessary. He was welcome anytime. They do an "integration" with new dogs which I'm sure is much like Santa Fe Tail's "evaluation" but it just sounds more accurate and less pompous. The people were very nice, he passed with flying colors and had a great time. I was very impressed with this place! Dealing with Santa Fe Tails had been such a negative experience. I would never do business or entrust my dogs to them again. And as far as Joey P.'s worn out rebuttal to their many negative reviews: "SF Tails does not feel Yelp is the most productive platform for communication and encourage all of our clients, current or potential, to interact with us directly so we can continue to cultivate a positive experience." I DID interact directly which is precisely WHY it was such a bad experience!

Ulla is a wonderful person who has done a lot of good in her life, but she's become too set in her ways and opinions and rules the place like a tyrant. Staff are routinely yelled at, volunteers are manipulated, secrets are kept, it's all just unfortunate. Everything looks run down because that's how she solicits more donations, not because there is no money - according to NM state websites, the organization is sitting on over $1 million.
