This is a fantastic store for all kinds of pet supplies and more. I am unable to bathe my dog at my home in Abiquiu, so drove the hour for their DIY setup. They've thought of everything ! They've got many different shampoos, conditioners and all of the grooming tools available for you to use. After Penny's bath, I treated her to a beautiful new harness and several new kinds of treats. I didn't get to take advantage of this option because my dogs got into puppy food and I needed puppy food ASAP! I've been here before to use the self-serve dog wash, and it was so much easier to wash a big dog here than at home. My wife and I are on a road trip with our dog, Hiccup (aka Jicama, Coopy, Comrade Hick, Hicamcmuffin) and find ourselves in the beautiful city of Santa Fe. As you likely know, St. Francis is the patron saint of this town, but despite St. Francis' love of animals, Hiccup has been freaked out by the creaking timbers of our rental unit. After one sleepless night trying to keep Hiccup from throwing himself off Camel Rock (a dramatic but rarely fatal suicide attempt), we came upon the good folks at Critters. STAY AWAY! I give them two starts for the quality of their food selection. I give them one star for their employee demeanor, service professionalism, and overall attitude. They acted like young stoners who didn't give a crap about anything, don't make eye contact, mumble their words, and have no clue about any type of customer service appropriate behavior. I give them zero stars for the disgustingly FILTHY dog wash station. I was one of the two first washes of the day. The other couple was complaining as well. The tubs were evidently not cleaned or sanitized form the night before. The couple said they pulled tons of hair out of the tub before they used it. There was hair all over the place. When I stupidly tried to dry my dog it flew around like a snow storm. I started sneezing and coughing. I gave up and took my dog home wet, rewashed, and dried him at home. I wouldn't even put him on the floor it was so covered with hair. Additionally, their towels were more like shredded, threadbare, hard rags that were used to clean floors. What is most frightening is that their "dryer" was portable like a shop vac, but the plug was sitting on the floor just a foot away from the wash station with no GFI on the outlet. That's a electric shock or fire waiting to happen. When I told the front desk, they didn't care at all and charged me full price for 5 minutes and a wet dog in my arms. An apology, compassion, clean towel, or attempt to clean the area would have been nice, at the minimum. read more

Easy access, plenty of employees for assistance, a lot of choices. The gentlemen helping us tried the item on the employees dog to see if it would fit our dog (they were similar in size). They all seem very friendly but not pushy at all. I would prefer to give them my money than the big box stores. Give them a try. I would have given them 5 stars, but they were out of the size we wanted and prices are just a tad pricey but still worth keeping your money local if you can. read more

Having Critters & Me in the neighborhood is a huge asset for us, the owners of a hungry, and often quite untidy or regrettably filthy 80-pound mutt from the Espanola Animal Shelter. When distressing news about adulterated or dangerous pet food emerged in recent years, it was reassuring to know we'd been buying the impeccably sourced and uniformly high-quality brands that Critters & Me offers. The pet food tends to be expensive but I'm not interested in giving my beloved canine the kind of mass-market commodity diet I wouldn't provide to any other family member or eat myself. (Earned discounts help defray the cost of their top-drawer stuff.) Lots of well-chosen treats, toys, accessories, and supplies available, and always a generous, knowledgeable, kind-hearted staff. The pet-bathing facilities are excellent -- a wonderful resource. read more

They love the critters here and we love them. Their selection of grain-free, super-high quality dog foods can't be beat. They are very helpful, knowledgeable and always friendly. There is even a self-service dog wash in the store, and they supply everything you need, including towels. Just bring the pooch and $15. Such a deal. Also, they have a locals' loyalty program you can sign up for. Every little bit counts, especially when you're spending 70 bucks on a bag of dog food =). read more

I love this store. Was visiting from out of town with my 2 dogs who were grungy from escaping the CAL fires and in the car for 2 days, and in a hotel for a week before deciding to drive all the way to Santa Fe. They more food, treats, car toys and baths! Their D-I-Y dog wash station is the best! Even with 2 big dogs, they have spots for that. The shampoo and conditioners in squeeze bottles are perfect. I have never gotten through a wash so quickly and easily, even at Pet Food Express, where the products are in the water hoses! AND, the quality must be great, because my dogs have never stayed this clean and fresh for as long afterwards, even compared to our CA groomer. The person who helped me find food was super knowledgable about grain free dog food risks, and dog food allergies, which we had to work around. They were well stocked in quality foods, toys, etc. It is a GREAT shop. I only wish there was one in California too! :-) read more

Fantastic friendly place!!!!! Two wash tubs, brushes and toe nail clippers all there!!!!! Wide assortment of shampoos and conditioners for the dirtiest dogs!!!! This used to be a 7-11 convenience store back in the 1970's that was notorious for strong-arm roberies. Today it's one of the biggest pet food and treat stores in the city. The staff is usually friendly and knowledgeable, but parking is sparce. I would give this business another star, but their clientel is the usual overly-self-absorbed type of people that you find in this city, the same ones who feel self-entitled to hog the aisles of the store fawning over some sort of product or whatever... I love the business, but the people who shop here need to get over themselves. read more

OMG! So helpful:) I went in to look at a grain free diet for both my old dog and young cat. They had so many options and were so helpful. They don't even carry the stuff I used to feed my dog and thought was pretty healthy. They are very meticulous about the food and snack they carry. So happy I found this store!!!!! I'm still not sure what to make of my experiences with the folks at Critters & Me but I have not been impressed. Truth be told, I am curious as to why they keep getting such high accolades and have come to the understanding that it must be because their name is known. I've had my dogs on a grain free diet for many years, since an elder dog of mine (who has since passed) developed a sensitivity, and have made sure to find what works from them all. The brand I needed wasn't available at my usual shop so I came down to Critters & Me to find it. During my time trying to shop the woman working there did everything she could to try to convince me that not only should I stop getting grain free but that it was bad for my dogs. I told her repeatedly that the diet was happily endorsed by my vet but she ignored me and continued to point to foods that were the opposite of what I needed and continued to speak to me as if I was a naughty child. After ten minutes of this I left to go to another shop, finding the woman to be nothing short of uneducated and rude. I have since returned to look for a couple accessories that I've yet to find elsewhere but if I have a choice I won't make any food or sizable purchases there. The food prices are comparable to what I've seen elsewhere but everything else is quite over priced (I almost choked when I saw the prices of the dog bowls). There are better places to go. read more

We love stopping at this place EVERY time that we are in town for many reasons. First: the self-serve doggie wash is great! They provide shampoo, conditioner, rinses, brushes, large tubs with non-slip mats, dryers, aprons, towels... everything that you can think of for a mere $16. Second, their customer service is downright exceptional. You would think that you have known these people for years and years. They truly care about you and your pets. You just don't find that at the big box stores. And finally, the quality of their products are unsurpassed. Highly recommended pet store! read more

Wonderful! So glad we have this pet store in Santa Fe. The pet wash is great - the height of the tubs makes it very easy to use. My 75 lb dog will not walk up the ramp to get in, and the staff is always willing to help lift him up there. I also appreciate all of their knowledge and selection of healthy pet foods. I've only been here to wash my dog since they don't carry our kind of food. The wash area is very nice and the price reasonable. The blower works great and it was nice to be tucked away from a lot of other activity that could further stress the pooches. Or humiliate them further while being bathed. My only gripe is that they only give you 30 min from start to finish. When you have a furry, furry friend, that is almost impossible. Make sure you do the brush out before you get there to make your time limit and step lively. The one staff member I dealt with was nice and it looks to have a wide array of pet products. read more
