My Experience at Cedarwood Veterinary Clinic…read more On October 26, 2023, I brought my beloved cat, Higgins, to Cedarwood Veterinary Clinic in Santa Fe for what was supposed to be a routine dental procedure under anesthesia. He was entrusted to the care of Dr. Jonathan Baldys. Later that afternoon, Higgins was released without a consultation from the veterinarian. He appeared to be drooling, which I was told was normal, but he soon began gagging and acting distressed. I also noticed a strange "crunchy" sensation in his back. When we followed up the next day, we were told that Higgins had not received subcutaneous fluids, contradicting what I had suspected. That same day, Higgins was examined again by Dr. Baldys, who diagnosed him with subcutaneous emphysema caused by a torn trachea, apparently due to intubation during the dental procedure. He attempted to relieve the trapped air under Higgins' skin and sent us home with medication. Despite my continued efforts to stabilize Higgins and multiple visits to RoadRunner Veterinary Clinic and Gruda Veterinary Hospital over the following week--including oxygen therapy and emergency interventions--Higgins' condition deteriorated. He died from cardiac arrest on November 5, 2023, just ten days after what should have been a routine dental cleaning. I filed a formal complaint with the New Mexico Board of Veterinary Medicine, in which I alleged that Higgins' death was the result of negligence, incompetence, or malpractice. The Board ultimately dismissed the complaint. I respectfully disagreed with that outcome and remain deeply concerned about the standard of care my cat received. Higgins was a loving, trusting companion, and he suffered immensely in his final days. I remain heartbroken and haunted by the fact that his death may have been preventable. If you're considering Cedarwood Veterinary Clinic, I encourage you to ask detailed questions, seek second opinions, and make the decision that is best for your animal. I will never get Higgins back, but I hope that sharing my experience may spare someone else the pain we've experienced.

The vet was…read moreyoung and told me to consent to a nose biopsy while the dog was under general anesthesia so that "we could be sure it's Lupus and give him the right meds." In my mind, I was thinking the biopsy would just be a little scrape or sample - no big deal, right? Wrong... when I picked him up, it looked like his nose had been butchered. He had many stitches and the cone of shame for 2-3 weeks. Then he started having seizures 3-4 weeks after his procedure ... he has never had seizures before. I returned to the vet who did his teeth cleaning and nose biopsy, she gave us a referral to a neurologist and prescription for Keppra. Feeling like someone wasn't right, we took the dog to another vet for consult. He shook his head in dismay when I told them about the nose biopsy. He said, "I've never had to do a nose biopsy to confirm Lupus." Not only did the poor dog have his nose hacked to Frankenstein mush, it wasn't even necessary to begin with... and it wasn't cheap. It was a $600+ biopsy on top of the teeth cleaning. Since the procedure, our dog continues to have seizures about once a month, and he has a terrible cough because he damaged his throat when he ran into the door while wearing the cone of shame... all due to a nose biopsy that wasn't even needed in the first place. I believe this hospital is highly for-profit. I'm mad that unnecessary procedures were recommended, my dog suffered, the admin staff was impersonal, the vet was young and green, and my bill was expensive. I would not recommend this place.

I've now been to Mosaic Animal Emergency and Specialty Hospital twice in the past year. The first…read moretime, I had a dog that swallowed a rat poison. I was super happy that they attended to my pup immediately and treated it as a "Red". Today, I went in with a cat with a UTI. They immediately triaged Electron and reassured me he wasn't actively blocked at the moment (which I was very worried about after consulting Dr. Google to figure out the source of the little blood clot in his urine). They then treated me as a "Green" and I happily waited 4 hours. Because as I was waiting, multiple other animals came thru the door. A dog that had swallowed unknown green pellets and was exhibiting lethargic signs (yep: experienced that one before) and another with epilepsy that was twitching as he came in. These were certainly "Red". Those cases were sooo much more urgent, would cost an order of magnitude more than treatment for my UTI kitty, and I was so glad I wasn't in that camp (again, as I had been in the past with the pup). I appreciate that this practice does an immediate evaluation of every animal that walks through the door and treats the most urgent cases immediately with the urgency that is required. And I'm grateful that today I wasn't the most urgent case: my kitty is doing great, I was granted the the peace of mind that he wasn't undergoing something life threatening or painful within minutes of waking in, and I got professional and affordable care that I would have had to wait another three weeks for at my regular vet. Thanks so much for helping me out! Also, side note: wait times are long in all veterinary clinics across the state. Because not enough people are willing to do this work. Please treat them nice so we don't make the problem worse. And be grateful to be a "Green" case. Your furry friend would want to be waiting as a Green any day!

Every single time, they are kind and responsive. If your pet is stable, you may have to wait a long time because they practice triage (as they should), but they respond with such compassion when you request an update. The difference between the way the staff, doctors, and techs treat us and our pet and the way other places practice is night and day--and that means the most when the situation is especially dire or scary. Their calm understanding is so human and so needed. They have a fund you can donate to in order to help other people's pets, and we give them money whenever we can because the world needs more vet care like these folks provide. Thank you to Dr. Froggett, Dr. Chamney, Consuelo, and all the others who have helped us. We never want to go to the emergency vet, but it is a comfort to know we will be greeted with love when those hard times come.

I could not let Jackson die without me at his side. A friend recommended Dr. Yost. She came on a Sunday to my home, with just a day's notice, and helped to make the experience of letting him go as easy as such a difficult thing can be. Since that time I have recommended her to others, and they have each told me they had the same experience. I am so grateful she was there--the whole experience left me with a feeling of peace. She likes everybody but did not take to Audreys cold aloof demeanor. She put two needled in my dog and my dog yelped. The whole experience with this women was awful. She had scheduled an appointment for the next week and never showed up or let me know she was not coming. Audrey is cold, miserable and not warm to the animals at ALL.

I don't like slamming businesses, but I also don't like spending a LOT of money and not getting what I paid for. So-o, here's my experiences with this company. We moved here 4 months ago and I needed to find a feline acupuncturist for my 21 year old cat, who suffers from arthritis. I found Audrey Shannon online and called her to discuss my objectives (at this stage of my cat's life all I care about is her comfort and quality of life). Ms Shannon seemed like she understood and she even did house calls, so I made an appt. Ms Shannon showed up on time and came into my bedroom where my cat normally sleeps, She sat on the floor and let my cat approach her, speaking softly, bearing catnip, etc. I explained, I thought very clearly, that I was NOT interested in this being in any way unpleasant for my cat, and that I would rather we take it slowly and make this a great experience. I was hoping to use this for her long-term pain management. My cat has had acupuncture before, in San Jose for three years and before that when she was younger in Boulder. ******She NORMALLY reacts very calmly to it, sleeping and purring*** So Audrey began by asking me to hold my cat. Now I've been with my cat during acupuncture at least 30 times and it has never been necessary for me to HOLD DOWN my cat to get acupuncture. I said no, if she wouldn't let Audrey stick the needles without holding her down then this wasn't going to work. So she started by sticking a needle in her hip area, which is RIGHT where the extreme pain is (I don't even pet her there). My cat yelped, ran under the bed, and that was the end of the appointment.. I was trying to be nice and mentioned that other Dr's had started with the spot on the forehead to release some nice endorphins before going for the sensitive spots. Ms Shannon said she knew that and that the spot she got on her hip was another endorphin spot. Ok, I don't know everything there is to know about acupuncture, that's why I pay someone else to do it, so I said "alright, well like I said, I don't want this to be a negative experience, let's let it go this time and try again in a week. BUT, since she's used to getting the first needle in the head, let's start there next time even though I know you have your own methods. ". I paid her $65 for the one-needle experience and crawled under my bed to get the needle that my cat had pulled out immediately. One week later Ms Shannon insisted on starting on her hip points and disregarding the point on her forehead that really mellows her out. She also had the audacity to propose that we take her to a smaller room where she can't hide and hold her between us to immobilize her (!?). I refused, and we had the EXACT same experience as the first time, except my cat REALLY YOWLED and hissed at us. Ms Shannon suggested that my cat had the problem and was territorial in her home and that she would benefit from going to an office vet, and referred me to Sangre De Cristo. I then said "well you went to the trouble to come out here, I should pay you..." She took my $65 even though I was clearly unsatisfied with how things went down and it was a chance for her to make things right by waiving the fee. No such luck. Very UNPROFESSIONAL. So-o, my first visit at Sangre de Cristo I explain the horrible experience I'm desperately trying not to duplicate and the Dr said, (kindly) that perhaps starting at the very most sensitive spot on the animal is not the best approach and we should work our way up to that. Since then I've been happy as a clam at Sangre, and my cat hasn't yelped or howled and I haven't had to pin her down to get the needles in her. I thought of calling this person and telling her about the feedback I'd gotten from the vet, but my husband asked me how often people take constructive criticism nicely, and I decided I didn't need the hassle. I only hope people read this review before subjecting their animals to Audrey Shannon, because they are making their beloved pets experience unnecessary pain. *******Acupuncture does work and it doesn't have to hurt********
