I have been a few times and although each experience gets progressively worse, there was a time when this place was decent. Unfortunately, my most recent visit will be my last. When I walked in, the girl at the counter asked if there was anyone in particular I wanted to have cut my hair. Since the guy that usually cuts my hair wasn't in, I said jokingly "whoever is the best!" .. wink wink. She laughs and says "No problem.. I'll put you with.... oh wait, he's booked. Um.. never mind." I then proceed to get seated with a new girl who has so much food in her teeth, I was afraid to speak with her. After explaining "just a bit of a trim... I like my hair a little longer", she proceeds to give me the worst haircut I've ever seen while complaining about the "commercialism of our neighborhoods". Not only was this cut reminiscent of an army buzz cut, there were chunks of hair missing all over my head. The areas that didn't have random short chunks taken out, were completely uneven. Seriously, this haircut was so bad it's almost laughable. A blind, retarded monkey could have given me a better haircut. This was a haircut to make babies cry, cause wives to divorce their husbands and cause Switzerland to start the next world war. The girl who cut my hair and the receptionist then had the audacity to tell me how great it looked and then charge me $45. This place is the epitome of hipster culture and a perfect example of what to expect in Williamsburg. Overeducated, "entitled", hypocritical, trust fund kids that add no value to society, have no life experience and complain about the commercialism of our neighborhoods. Here's a tip for your shitty haircut... the reason your neighborhoods are becoming commercialized is because normal hard working people are sick of paying top dollar for shitty service and an even shittier attitude! read more

I had been coming to Fellow Barber around every 3 weeks for the past year and a half and received many very good haircuts and trims, a few that were so-so, and a few that were truly outstanding. Based on that experience, I'd give the place four or five stars. Yesterday morning, I came in for a beard trim service. I shook hands with a new barber, sat down, and told him I wanted to get the sides of the beard trimmed very, very slightly, the edge around the neck cleaned up, but I absolutely *did not want to shorten the length at all.* He seemed to speak English fluently and to have heard me. But casually and quick as you like, proceeded to erase a solid inch and a half of length, perhaps 8 months worth of growth. (Why didn't I forestall this happening? I was leaned back in the chair with a hot towel over my eyes, and my beard had been of sufficient length that I couldn't feel the clippers.) As soon as I sat up and looked in the mirror, I had an urge to scream at the top of my lungs and headbutt the barber in the eye so powerful I could only suppress it by tightening my face into a rictus grin and paying and tipping like an automaton as fast as humanly possible. I'm still very mad at myself for not taking a moment to calm down, collect my thoughts, and refuse to pay a goddamn cent for this butchery. I will never go to fellow barber again. read more

Rich is a great barber. Its too bad management and front desk make this place unbearable with their "im too cool" williamsburg hipster attitude. They dont take reservations, but have no trouble telling you to come "within 30 for no wait". Would be nice to get a simple apology for once and not an egotistical rant. They certainly dont need my business to stay open and do well. But its unfortunate richy has to lose a loyal customer. -- UPDATE: Couldn't escape the place. For 25 years i didn't trust anyone else with cutting my hair except for my mother who is a hairdresser. Ever since I moved away to NYC i wondered who i would find to replace her and would go months and months without getting a proper haircut because i feared my precious locks would be ruined by the wrong choice of barber or stylist. After a few experiences that left me unhappy, i was still searching for the right hands. I finally asked the person at work with the best hair where he got his haircut and he told me about Fellow Barber. I was advised to see Chris "the scottish guy" and so i went with the hopes of finally putting an end to my search. I was blown away by how amazing my hair looked, the attention to detail, the professional manner, and the pleasant space that Fellow barber had to offer. I kept coming back and eventually worked with Alexia who is also amazing. I'm so thankful to have found this place because they make me beautiful every time i go. I go from fur ball to GQ in 30 minutes. If you're smart, you will go before rush hour and on a weekday. i can personally vouch for the talents of CHRIS and ALEXIA. This is my 2nd review for Fellow Barber, but only because it's gotten even better. With work, it was hard to continue seeing Taylor, but then Lexi popped out of the heavens and literally knew exactly what I wanted. From switching from pomade to sea salt, to figuring out how to get the 'poof' I wanted in my hair, to fixing my problems with cowlicks, Lexi is absolutely fantastic. I recently came to Fellow Barber for the sole reason that my Barber Doug recently moved his business there. He's not new to the hair game by any standard so don't be mistaken. Doug is a seasoned barber/stylist that has been cutting my hair for a long time now and after every cut I am amazed as to how well of a job he does and how passionate he is at his craft. Never had a bad experience with any of the barbers, but on Nov 12 the receptionist at night was quite rude. She kept talking low while I was checking out and was not telling me if the machine was ready for my credit card or not. I kept asking her with no answer, and she kept talking to herself. I thought she was drunk, high or possessed. Any of those options would not be unusual for some of the hipster losers in the neighborhood. Finally I had to raise my voice to the point that I felt I was yelling at her. Turns out she was on the phone with an ear piece having some casual conversation with whoever and ignoring the customer. I've been coming here for about two months. The shop itself is impressive with a coffee shop and a sunroof above the waiting bench filled with an impressive selection of (current) magazines. Each time I go in for either a trim or a buzz I can expect a great conversation and an awesome cut thanks to Richie P. The compliments I receive for my hair from friends are never ending. Reviewing Purely based on the wait list system, their online system sucks. Kudos for having a web-based wait list with a site that is phone compatible. However for the second time I have added myself to the wait list. Neither time was under 2 hours even though the site said 30-50 minutes. I then got a text saying they are ready to see me. Then got there and had to wait another 20 minutes. Sucks. Haircut is fine but hard to mess up a buzz cut. I guess it's good for them to be busy. I was really looking forward to my Fellow Barber experience, but instead it was a nightmare. I came in for a trim with Sandy, and she barely listened and took forever to do something so basic. Sandy ending up botching my hair so bad I had to go somewhere else for a correction a few hours later. It was cut uneven, and the person who corrected my hair was shocked at the horrific job she did. Wayne is the best barber I've ever had. My hair is important as someone in entertainment, it's a big part of my income, and I've searched all over New York for a barber that is perfectly reliable and exceptionally talented. I feel like I usually go in to a cut with Wayne with a specific idea of what I want but a vague way of explaining it since I don't know much about barberry. Wayne takes what I ask for and makes it happen beautifully. Not only is he consistent with providing the same exact cut I usually ask for and I know I can go in and get it the way I want, but he also is highly capable at handling curveballs when I need a specific look for a specific audition or meeting. Talent and reliability aside, wayne is a fun guy who I'd get a beer with any day, and his professionalism is top quality. I love my hair, and Wayne's the only one I let touch it now. Terrible experience. First, I call to ask if I can come in a little before my appointment time, they say they're very busy and couldn't fit me in. Okay, no problem. Except when I get there, there is literally not a single soul in the establishment. Dude at the register is super rude for no reason (seen that mentioned in a few other reviews as well). Then the barber proceeds to take off way more than I asked for. I say leave it below the ears multiple times, it doesn't happen. I ask him to stop cutting and he keeps trimming it. For a $50 haircut, this looks like a $10 haircut. read more

Been going here for almost 7 years. It feels like they stole my barber from me. I cannot get haircuts as frequently due to cost. I also do not want to loose the rapport I have with my barber. At one point a haircut was 40$ in a span of 2 years it has gone up to 63$.There is no loyal customer reward or consideration. If one were to tip the barber that makes a haircut 73$. If I break down the financials its just not affordable to get a haircut @ fellow barber anymore unless I downgrade to a junior barber. I just got the best haircut of my life from Alexia at Fellow Barber! I've had the same person cutting my hair for almost 10 years, but I needed a fresh set of eyes to give me a different look, and Alexia was the perfect person for the job. With minimal explanation on my part, she understood immediately what I was wanted, and she clearly explained how she was going to cut it before getting to work. Alexia works quickly but precisely, and I felt 100% comfortable the whole time, not like I needed to monitor her every move. She's also really fun to chat with and we cracked each other up. I love that cuts are followed by a hot towel and neck massage. The shop itself is a really nice space, and I love the products they use. I called to apologize and to try and reschedule my appointment that I couldn't make and the receptionist gave me a complete attitude and told me I couldn't make another appointment unless I could absolutely make the next one. No one should be spoken to that way. I understand that barbers make money by clients but emergencies do happen and people should be more understanding of that. The shop is clean, it is always busy and the online system is pretty dumb, however if you plan it right this place is great. Yes it's bit expensive but with the right barber there are no issues. I have heard great things about Lexi but for me Greg K is my guy. I have been going to him for over two years now and he is great. He takes his time and helps answer any questions. If you are a sneaker head he is down to go in depth with you. Further more he gives great cuts so much so I entrusted him with cutting my hair prior to my wedding. He even offered to help me get it all set day of if my wedding was in NYC ( free of charge). It was upstate but the cut was perfect and he help me sort out how to get it right on my own.
