I had awful haircut experience with Gina at Power Hair starting with annoying process of making appointment which took 2 days of texting and deposit of 50%. The place is beautiful, but atmosphere and level of service were poor. Messy working stations, hairbrushes with someone's hair on them - I was the first customer of that day, powerless hairdryer, inappropriate conversations between coworkers while doing my hair didn't make my experience any better. Madison has given me amazing haircuts for years. She's awesome. I'm only sharing my recent experience in case it helps others who do not prefer dogs in their hair salons. The last time I went to Power Hair, there was a barking, growling dog. I am scared of dogs and asked for it to be leashed twice. It was never leashed. Grateful it didn't go crazy during my haircut, but it did immediately after the blowout when another dog walked by the window. I appreciate that there are a lot of dog lovers in Brooklyn, but I am not one of them and felt bad paying so much money for a very uncomfortable 45 minutes. read more

OK, listen. I am torn about leaving this review because y'all are going to book up all the appointments and that is inconvenient and terrible for me. However, I also need to do right by the amazing artists at Power Hair, because they have kept me looking right for years. First, Barbara's my #1 stylist for my natural 3b curls; she is the curl whisperer, seriously. She's away right now, which is the saddest thing, but Carli and Amanda will hold it down for the curly girls until she's back. Next, Kat is OUTRAGEOUS with color. This woman got my hair back to my natural color after I'd been committing box abuse against it for years. It is shiny, it is bouncy, it looks the same color as it did when I was a child. I was greatly afeared of coloring it permanently because I don't want to eff with my texture, but Kat knew exactly what to do and how to do it, and no curls have been harmed in the making of this color. *EVERYONE* at this salon is super, super cool and friendly and open. The vibe is very laid back and down-to-earth, even though they have the skills to be douchey. (They are NOT in ANY WAY.) When I wasn't happy with a cut I got, Amanda (the owner), brought me in on her day off (Labor Day) to get it to where I needed it (I teach 8th graders -- I need to bring my A game in all ways on the first day of school), and the person who'd done my hair initially came in to watch to learn some tips, and despite the awkward, was still nice and cool, and not awkward at all. (I was the awkward. The awkward was me.) That says a LOT about everyone involved, and it's all pretty good. So yes, come to Power Hair, get your hair did with fierce style and color, and live your best life. Just don't be booking up all my appointment times. read more

What hair salon has 5 star reviews that are real? Power Hair. Walking into this place is like a breath of fresh air. It's perfect for people like me who are claustrophobic and anxious, there is a lot of open space, it's perfectly decorated, and the stylists are incredibly kind. I came here after seeing Kat's fantasy colors on Instagram and had to give her a shot at my hair. Well, she took my hair from L'Oréal's darkest box dye to a masterpiece I get complimented on daily... twice! I'll never switch salons. On top of that, my bands are incredibly difficult to cut. They always end up raising on the left side because I have a cowlick. Stylist usually keep cutting until my bangs are around lord Farquad length, which I personally don't enjoy on myself. I'm horrible and can't currently remember her name, but the wonderful babe who cut my bangs L i s t e n e d to me and I walked out of there with straight cut bangs that weren't shorter than I asked. I always expect them to get messed up as no one has cut them perfectly in over 10 years. I was so shocked. On top of that the salon is SO CLEAN. I'm a germaphobic creature with OCD, and seeing such a clean, great smelling bathroom is always refreshing. Their decorations are beautiful. You can also get tea and water to keep you hydrated. Anna is so talented at what she does, and she's also very patient and understanding during the process. My hair is very thick and frizzy and I was nervous due to bad experiences in the past, but Anna really listened to what I wanted and knew what was best for my hair texture. I got an updo with some baby's breath weaved in the back, and it was even better than I had imagined. My bridesmaids had their hair mostly down and my mother-in-law had an updo - they all got a lot of comments on how beautiful their hair looked. Carli spent a lot of time with me during my trial and over email to help me plan out our hairstyles, and the logistics for the morning. I felt completely at ease knowing that she took good notes from my trial, and she was very well prepared to tackle four hairstyles in one go. When it was time to do my hair the morning of my wedding, she made me feel both relaxed and excited for the day ahead. I also just love the space and location of the salon. It was very easy for me to quickly dip into a nail salon and then grab a healthy meal while others in my bridal party were getting their hair done. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this salon. I found it because I followed Barbara from her previous salon. Sadly, the past few times I have seen Barbara for a cut or bang trim I have been really disappointed and needed to seek help elsewhere to fix the job she did. Shocking because she was soo soo good in the past. This past time I went in for a bang trim and it was AWFUL...like a joke, I couldn't even believe she'd let me walk out with bangs like that. I contacted the owner, Amanda, to see if she might offer to help me. Welp, no she didn't. She said they were too short now and nothing could be done. So, I went to another salon and got a second opinion. They were able to make big improvements on my short bangs, so I'm glad I didn't take Amanda's advise and just give up. What really is poor in this circumstance is that Amanda should have had me come in to look at and fix my bangs. I have many stylist friends and it's pretty much salon etiquette to get an unhappy customer to come back in for a fix. In addition, my last visit I paid $70 for a gloss; which made very little difference to the health and shine of my hair. The stylist who colored me, Carli, even said the mixture was runnier/more watery than usual, so maybe that had something to do with it...idk. All I know is that I don't intend to return. read more

For starters my hair was already a damaged mess after so many hair dyes and curl perm done wrong. I thought I had no hope on my hair anymore as it was breaking, weak and damaged from the perm. I decided I wanted to my original hair color and Blake BLESSED my hair with the toning and glazing! It no longer feels heavy and thick and feels like it came back to life!
