Joseph Ramirez is an amazing hairstylist! He gave me the best mullet shag haircut for my unruly wavy, weird hair. I had no idea which stylist to choose from and I actually selected next available appointment. I was supposed to have my haircut by someone else- but they were running behind so they said do you want to work with Robert and I was like, sure why not? At first I was doubtful and considered asking him if he knows how To cut long, wavy hair but then I was like eff it- it's a haircut- it grows back! I showed him 3 pics of what I wanted and he went to town. I've never seen anyone cut hair the way he did- he used techniques I've never seen to achieve this specific look. I was so impressed! He told me he's been cutting hair since he was a teenager and he's in his late 30s- he's super skilled/talented! Robert was also really lovely to chat with. I felt really taken care of and I am so pleased with my new look. His rate is super reasonable for his talent/skill- I have no doubt I would've paid double for the haircut elsewhere. I should start off by saying I've been to Rudys at least 50 times. The stylists are an 8/10. The price is 7/10. The location and parking is an 8/10. So why the 1 star? The front desk assistants are a negative -10/10. Every time I come in I'm greeted as if they are annoyed I'm here. Several accounts where I've interrupted their conversation and they seem so irritated. This last visit compelled me to write a review. The guy at the front desk actually asked me to hold on a minute as he finished telling a story to a coworker. No joke, 5 minutes later I'm still standing...waiting. I asked if he could just put my name down and he says, oh yea. Forgot. He gets my name and tells me to sit down. Where's the service? These people represent the face of Rudys, right? I love the haircuts I get here but I don't want to face the front desk. Rudys....please have a state of emergency meeting with your front staff. A customer first boot camp. A smile. A friendly hello. Please! Adding an Update... July 16th... Still a 1 star. Been back two times since writing this review and the check in staff has gotten WORST. Everyone of them needs fired. Paid $60 for the worst haircut i've ever had. i just needed my sides faded, usually costs $35-$45 at any shop in LA, they charged $60 and gave me this rude barber who didn't listen to any of my instructions. i asked him twice to fade my sides and he didn't. maybe he doesn't know how to do fades? idk. also the place was empty. there were a dozen barber stations and only 2 people working. this place is empty for a reason and now i know why. save ur money, go somewhere else. read more

Krista is the best! I have been living in Los Angeles for about two years now and will not go to anyone else while I live here. It is unfortunate that Fellow Barber's prices are so outrageous, but Krista herself is worth it. She is a pro - She's thorough and pays great attention to detail and I have always been thrilled with her results. The space is really nice! Large and spacious, like a warehouse kind of vibe. I had my hair cut by Kenny. I will not go to anyone else after this. Kenny was awesome! After one of their regular stylists flipped me off on the street while i was circling for parking then sauntered into work and shot me a few glares while I sat in my chair paying for a haircut, i lost my love for this place. Wish I'd reported the worker, but honestly- this location seems way more loyal to their own than their customers. There is a tangible vibe of "you can't sit with us" that exudes from a number of staff members, and complaints on quality service seem to be ignored and excused. I read one response on here that said: "we all have bad days" and left it at that... Not exactly proactive management of the complaint- so I didn't bother. I've gotten my hair done here for 3-4 years. Cuts, updo's for acting and modleing work, but After this incident, (and another where a bang trim took 50 minutes to complete. It was done sloppily and needed to be recut at another salon to be fixed) I won't return to Rudy's and will be warning others to stay away. Quality of service / overall kindness of the staff has really fallen off this past year. It reflects on the management to me, and is incredibly disappointing. read more

Ladies, Your hair is safe here. I had my hair colored and cut by a gentleman whos name I forgot. Dont expect this to be Aveda where they give you tea and massage. I put my name down told them I needed color and cut, and was given a stylist within 15 mins. My job was under $125 including tip. You go in and get out, looking fresh as hell (or least feeling like you do). Do NOT park on sunset theres plenty of parking behind the building. read more

Earlier today, as I was walking home from brunch, I thought, "I should get a haircut!" And I've had Rudy's bookmarked on Yelp for some time. I walked in without an appointment, and was able to get my hair cut right away - now THAT's pretty awesome. Mind you, it was probably around 3 PM on a Sunday. By the time I left, there were people waiting for their turn. I must've gotten lucky :) Anyway, my stylist was just darling - his name is Spindle. (At least, this is what I heard him say after I asked him to repeat it - the acoustics of the space make small talk a bit difficult! Haha). He patiently listened to me describe what I wanted: a long bob, with the front being longer than the back. He did a wonderful job, and took his time to make sure there weren't any strays. He even shortened the back a bit more, after he'd dried my hair. Thank you for pampering me on a Sunday afternoon :) My shorter hair feels sassy and light. Hehehe. read more

I was there around 10 AM, street parking was pretty easy and close to the shop. Very open layout, lots of seating if you have someone with you. This location has consistently the worst attitude, and customer service of any of the Rudy's in the area. The stylists individually provide mediocre cuts at increasing and inconsistent prices.The front desk staff is a mixed back from friendly to completely pompous and aloof. I would avoid Rudy's in general over the last couple of years due to declining value and service, however in a pinch for time it does the trick. Coming in at 4:00pm on NYE after calling first, having been unable to go to my regular stylist as he had a cold, I was seeking a quick, no none-sense walk in. To my surprise, although complimentary and polite ( also surprising) the front desk informed me that there were no walk ins or appointments left for the day, no attempt to accommodate or squeeze me in was offered at all blaming several "call outs". te waste of time and money for Uber will keep me from making this mistake again Update: the salon responded to this review by discounting my troubles and ignoring the fact that I had called ahead and was told to come in ( wasting my time and money) although further away Shortys ( named consistently one of the top ten shops in LA) managed to "squeeze" me in and provided exemplary service and a superior cut. read more

Boyfriend got a good haircut that's actually the sad part. We were a little late and I own that. It's a complete pain trying to find parking off sunset. The business itself was super professional and actually still allowed him to have the haircut which was really nice. The really negative thing came when the hairdresser was having my boyfriend look at the back of his head after she cut it. He has a skin condition and so I went up to ask him if he wanted it shorter in the back and the hairdresser promptly turned to me and completely snapped saying "Do you want to cut his hair for me?" In no way shape or form was my comment about her work, it was about his skin condition being irritated by having longer hair at his neck. The bummer is after we left we've spent the whole time talking about how rude and bitchy this hairdresser was (who apparently is a senior hairdresser) than how good he looks. read more

Good haircut! I just wished they'd spend the time to really clean you up. It feels a little bit more about turning numbers. The thing about going to a smaller ma and pa shop is you'll pay $17 for a hair cut and the guy will spend an hour detailing every aspect of your hair until he's practically out of breath. It just means more to the barber going to a smaller spot. If you're looking for a small touch up, don't bother coming here. But if you're looking to redefine your hair/style you'll probably find someone here with a good aesthetic that'll give you haircut that looks fresh and modern. I'd recommend Manly and Sons over this place for a similar price but a cut with much more care and diligence. read more

What I love about Rudy's is that if I wake up on a Sunday and think, "I want a haircut," I can make a same-day appointment. It's been almost two weeks since my haircut, but I am still loving it so much that I was compelled to leave a review for the wonderful Tara.
