Out of 10 contractor estimated for my deck project, Fence and Deck Connection was among one of the better priced. I decided to go with them for the deck build because they offer a lifetime build warranty on top of the manufactures warranty for the composite decking. My build wast easy. I went back and forth a bunch of times on the product I wanted, the time frame that I wanted it to be built and each change I made, Fence and Deck Connection was there to help me with it, no problems. From Jeff in Sales, to the Project Managers TJ and Carl, everyone I worked with at the company provided top notch customer service. They were always prompt on returning emails and answering questions. The build crew worked fast and efficiently and were very friendly. The deck they built turned out better than I thought and I am completely happy with it! I had such a great experience with this company that I recommended them to my neighbor for the fence they wanted installed and, after getting several estimates, they also chose Fence and Deck Connection. AWESOME COMPANY with AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICE & SATISFACTION Waited a little while to post this review to make sure I was happy with everything. It's a little long, but they deserve the praise. It started with their rep that visited my house, Kevin, to go over my project and give me an estimate. I had an issue with my previous fence and the gate swinging out, hitting a hill and getting stuck. Kevin suggested to instead have the gate swing in. It would seem like a simple solution but one that neither I or the other two representatives from two other fencing companies thought of. When it came to pricing they were very respective in the overall price & financing, but what stood out was their warranty above and beyond the other companies. The installed fence was exactly what we wanted & done in a timely fashion. It is very well-built from quality materials. So you may ask yourself what makes them so awesome? All they did was what they were paid to do. Well that's not the entire story, during the installation process there was an inadvertent accident by the crew that caused severe damage to my water heater that required an emergency repair. Fence and deck connection immediately rectified the situation and paid for all costs involved without arguing or fighting over the incident as many companies would have. The fence turned out pretty good, some gaps because of our slope but that was explained to us. However customer service needs some work. No one contacted me about an installation for a date after two weeks of Steve emailing me about being the sales manager and that our fence is in production. I had to contact them for the date. It felt like they just take your first installment money and forget you exist. When the job was done. No one came to tell us that it was completed and no final walk through. This company does not stand by their workmanship and warranty. The deck they installed for us has structural problems. The deck slopes toward the house instead of away from it. Every time it rains we get water leaking into our family room, ruining the carpet and sub flooring. We've had them out 4 times, each time they made excuses, shifted blame, and did nothing to correct the issue. Blaming others; however, they furnished and installed all material. read more

This was my first major project in my 60 years on the planet- a long staircase from my house to the river on a very steep hill. Fence and Deck Connection helped me every step of the way (pun intended!) and were simply the best! From start to finish they answered all of my novice questions. The work they did was amazing! They overcame significant structural issues without batting an eye. My neighbors were complimenting the project for weeks after it was done! A couple weeks after the project was completed a horrible storm caused another neighbor's tree to destroy a portion of the stairs. I was surprised that the stairs held up so well given the size of the tree and the violent storm. To my surprise and complete joy Fence and Deck Connection came out almost immediately and fixed it for free. They said customer service was more important than money. Who does that??? Awesome Company!! We are in love with our fence and the company! David K. from Fence and Deck Connection met us at our home in Southern Maryland and took very detailed measurements of our lot. He went over the product selection with us and made suggestions. He was great, very knowledgeable. The company made the entire process so easy. I received a quote from one of their salesmen, Andrew, a couple weeks ago. He was nice during the visit and gave me a price for a full deck, which also allowed me to chose between black or white balusters at no additional cost. I told him that we were still in the process of receiving quotes and I would let him know once we made our decision. A week later he called, and emailed me, to which I informed him that we received a more competitive bid from another company and were leaning in that direction, but i appreciated all his help. He then responded by saying that his customers are typically weary of companies that rework bids to beat out competition after quoting a higher price. But that he can present the competing offer to his "manager" to see if he can offer some sort of discount. I told him that a revised bid was not an issue for me, but if he could compete, great, if not, no worries. A few days later he emailed me again and said he was with his manager and asked for the quote from the company. I told him that i have not had to do that with the other companies that were working to to gain my business, but since i liked him and his company, that i would send part of the bid and extract the company name and other proprietary information. Once i sent the information, then told me that it was not detailed enough and that he was "including the black balusters" in his bid and the competitor did not. It was a very accusatory tone, and it felt as if he was accusing me of lying and that the bid was not real. Which is odd because i was obliging his request in order to give HIS company business. I told him that i was editing the bid to remove information,which was done via screen shots from my iPhone while at work. So some parts were edited out due to that. Ultimately, I ended up telling him that this process was becoming far too complicated and that if he wanted to revise his bid, that would be fine, but I would not be providing any more information and working to defend myself. Also, that although text does not provide context, that I could sense the frustration in his emails. The fact he said he was now "including" the black balusters, when in reality he told me that they made zero price difference and it was just about preference, told me a lot about his dishonesty. I also let him know how disappointed i was and that i had not experienced this issue with any of the other decking companies, and that I would not move forward with his company after this exchange. The fact that he said he wanted to compete, then expected me to provide proof as if I was lying felt very disrespectful and his tone became more aggressive. The burden of proof to beat out a competitor should not fall on me. If he did not want to revise the offer, then he should say, "sorry that is our best price, but best of luck with the new deck" which would have been much more professional in my opinion. But instead he wanted to argue with me and basically insinuate that I was lying or that we were not comparing apples to apples. I kept my emails professional the entire time and would say things like "Happy Friday" etc..... but his were much more direct and not as friendly, which is strange considering he was working to gain my business, not the other way around. I repeatedly told him that if his manager could not revise the bid, that it was not a problem and wished him the best, but he ignored those comments and pushed forward. It was a very disappointing experience, given that we started off in a good space. But when he realized that a competitor could offer a better price, he could not accept it. The past few years we have completed a fair number of renovations around our house. During this time, we have come across business that have been criminal (stole our $$), been ok, better than average and exceptional. I can honestly say Fence & Deck Connection falls in the EXCEPTIONAL category. Our journey with F&D began with me filling out their online forum. Jeff W soon emailed me back and we set up an appt. Our sales person was Kevin B and he was very thorough and took the time to explain everything and answered our questions. He even replied to emails outside normal working hours. When he left one felt confident that the work that was to be done was going to be done to a very high standard. What really surprised me was the price. We had quotes form 3 other businesses, and they were not really that close. 1 was close but the contract was vague, so not well put together like F&D. I talked to Kevin about time to get the fence installed, he stated 2-4 weeks. I explained we had been told time-frames from other salesmen, then you put down the deposit and expectantly, the time frame given was much longer. He assured me that was not the case and put me in touch with Cheryl T. Superb lady to chat with and she assured me they had been meeting that 2-4-week window, even in their busier parts of the season. True to her word, once we signed the contract and put down the deposit via credit card (which happened quickly) the fence was installed in 13 days. They (Kevin and Cheryl) listened to that timeline concern and got the job done exceptionally well, just exceptional customer service. The appointed production manager for the install of the fence was Francisco C. To no surprise another outstanding gentleman. He came to the house at the arranged time and we walked through the process again, laid out the fence with flags (so one does not have to be home on install day) Again answered my questions, went over what takes place on Install day, just an outstanding fellow. Day of the fence install, the crew of 3 and Francisco should up around 0830 and quickly got to work. I have cameras all around my house and I checked up on their progress throughout the day and I can attest that these 3-gentleman worked very effectively and were very proud of their work. I was amazed that they were about to complete the whole fence in 1 day. So fast is good, but how did it look? Amazing, super straight, level and sturdy. Very impressive work. I would like to thank Jeff W, Kevin B, Cheryl T and Francisco C and the fence crew for an outstanding experience. They all listened to our concerns/questions and not once did they drop the ball. Sorry for this lengthy review, I feel if a company takes the time to provide quality service, the least I can do is take the time to write a review. This was the kind of contractor experience you pray for. We contacted F&DC directly and were met with professionalism from the sales floor, through the project planning, permitting process and construction phases. Each employee takes his/her job seriously and commitment to quality is evident throughout the entire process. They came out, walked the property with us and discussed options and cost. They weren't the cheapest, but they weren't the most expensive estimate we got either. I'm fully confident that this investment will last a long, long time -- especially backed up with their warranty. We aren't talking about pre-assembled panels, here folks. This fence was built on-site, along with a trellis, and an 8-foot wide double gate. Everything hand cut, and assembled here. A few weeks later, their quality-control inspector came to see if we were happy. I mentioned that I'd prefer to have the gate latch on the other side for ease of use. I have the deck popping up so I call the office and no one return my call so I call Brad and he don't want to help he told me to call the office he don't have anything to do with that but he took my money and press me to pay or he going to take me to court and I was not happy with the work but he didn't care. I was just ordering some parts for our chain link fence to keep a dog in. It wasn't even a huge order or anything and they still went out of their way to help make sure I was happy and taken care of. Knowing that I was in a bit of a hurry, they even called competitors to see if they could track down the parts for me even faster. One part of the order wasn't right, and they resolved the issue by bringing the correct part right to me--within the hour! Simply put, these guys are fantastic. We hired Fence and Deck Connection this year to add a screen room and deck to the back of our house. We had a door off the kitchen that opened to a four foot drop into the backyard -- not exactly a useful feature. The sales guy came over, clearly explained our options, and mocked up a plan. We went to their showroom in Millersville to take a look at materials and talk over additional options. Everyone there was friendly and helpful! The entire project was pretty hands-off for us; they took care of the subcontractors (electrician and gutters) and the county permits. Our neighbor works from home, and told us that she was impressed with how the crew worked. They took extra care not to damage our lawn by propping up the materials on blocks of wood, which I thought was really nice. They cleaned up each day and did an extra good cleaning at the end. There were a couple hiccups along the way, but the project foreman was on the ball and made sure we were 100% satisfied with the room and deck. He responded quickly to all our calls and emails, and delivered on everything that was promised. I will admit to having a bit of sticker shock with the initial estimate (this was a our first major home project, so I didn't really know what to expect), but the money really shows in the final product. Our friends and family have been blown away when they see it! We already have a fence, but if we didn't, these guys would be at our house this spring putting one up for sure. 100% pure winners in my book. read more

They quickly got back to me and arranged for a service crew to replace the bad post and adjacent fence sections. We had a very nice cedar picket fence put in by these guys and we're thrilled with the results. The price was competitive with or a little better than the other quotes we received. Our sales rep, David King, was responsive and nice to work with. He was able to work up a quote for us onsite after walking the property, which I really liked. There was no "take it or leave it" pressure, just a matter of fact proposal with David there to answer my questions. For us it was particularly helpful as we already had several quotes in (after waiting 2-5 days) from other contractors and knew what the price range should be. We signed the contract and paid the deposit the next day. The crew was polite and made sure to ask us if they had questions or wanted to confirm something. They were done fencing our .25 acre lot in a day and a half despite intermittent rain and quite a bit of old root structure to deal with when putting in the posts. We hope to use them again when we revisit our deck situation. read more
