We had a 18 year old tuxedo kitty who was failing and unable to get around the house. We called our regular vet and they couldn't do a house visit because of a lack of staff. Mind you we have been with them since the 90's. Regardless we called Fenton River in Stafford and talked to the nicest lady who had someone come over the next day for euthanasia. The ladies who came to our home were very compassionate and professional. I would highly recommend them to anyone who has ever had the saddest experience of putting a family member to sleep when it's their time. read more

BEWARE - do not bring your pet here. My dog (6 y.o. rescue mix - very healthy, luckily!) had a non-complicated ear laceration surgery at Tolland location, having come out of it with 2(!!) superbly antibiotics resistant nasty bacterias in her - Pseudomonas Aeruginosa and Staphylococcus Epidirmidis. Both are common hospital infections, and the former can live on surfaces (even dry!) for 4 years - so, be cautious! My dog had not been exposed to any other unusual environment or change in routine, except this surgery. I have two other dogs, who are constantly together and have no signs of these infections. The only uncommon thing that happened was - this surgery. If this bacteria is bread in un-/under-sanitary surgical room or hospital (with all facts present - this is the only highly likely source of infection), it's extremely difficult for them to eradicate. ...so, here we are $2k+ and counting! Here is the rest of facts: They took a week (!) to run lab/test results for Pseudomonas A., which is susceptible (conveniently) to only 1 recommended antibiotic that get administered every 4hrs. via IV, requiring hospitalization. When they realized I'm not willing to hospitalize my dog, they prescribed an antibiotic that's only intermittently effective against this bacteria, that's got an explicit warning to NOT use in dogs, as it's causing bone marrow suppression. If the above is not preposterous enough, they had just notified me, 2 WEEKS after surgery, that there was another bacteria discovered in that same sample - a staph! My dog contracted 2 nasty and extremely hard to kill bacterias as a result of the surgery. I am attaching a copy of the lab testing result here and happy to share the remainder of documented information with anyone who's still on the fence to keep, take their pet to or start brining them to Fenton River practice. I personally strongly advise against it. The risk to your pet's health IS NOT WORTH IT. My experience with them speaks to incompetence, pet ailment she didn't have before and wouldn't have otherwise that I need to continue caring for weeks, and if I had to apply simple terminology - medical negligence. read more

Despite how urgent her condition was, we were refused a prompt appointment because we were new clients. This clinic needs staff who prioritize animal well-being over profit. On top of that, despite weather issues, they insisted on keeping our $150.00 new client deposit for the so-called 'weather issue.' read more

Worst place ever. My dog is a patient. He has an ear infection so I call to make an appointment. This was not an emergency but I expected to be seen within a couple of days. They informed me they are all booked and said they have urgent care appointments available which cost $185 versus $85. I kept calling all week thinking they will have a cancellation but nope they never seem to have any cancellations and again offered urgent care appointment. We are saying goodbye to this place who are interested more in your wallet than your pet. read more

I wish I could give 10/5 stars, but I'll wait until after my dog's surgery to update. . Today was my first visit to Fenton River. My dog tore his ACL a week and a half ago. I spent all last week on the phone with tons of vets in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. Nobody could even see him for a consult until October. My husband and I are small business owners and I mentioned it to one of our employees. He had ACL surgery done on his dog at Fenton River and highly recommended them. I still called all over the place because at that point I was looking to get him into whatever place would take him first so we could start on recovery and put this behind us. I had already booked an appointment and a tentative surgery with Fenton Hill but continued to call others. I believe that fate brought us to Fenton Hill, along with a little help from Saint Francis! Our consult appointment was today, (still the earliest time of all the phone calls). Although it took us almost an hour to get there, I am so at peace now. I love, love, love this practice so far! We were greeted kindly and professionally, from the start. Checking in took a nano-second. We were brought right into an exam room, and waited a very short time to meet Dr. Heidi Morey. She introduced herself immediately, examined our dog, confirmed the torn acl and explained our options clearly. She answered all of our questions and took all the time we needed to answer our questions and concerns. I am thrilled with the visit, Dr Morey, and the rest of the staff!! As I told our son, who lives out of state, "I hope she walks the walk because she certainly talks the talk." He too is feeling a huge sense of relief based on what I told him about her and what the plan is. I'll update, as I said, after his surgery. He's a big dog and I know he will have a lengthy recovery time, but I feel totally comfortable with our decision and with leaving our beloved Tucker in the care of this facility for his surgery. read more

I have two rats and a dog and Dr Pruitt (Stafford location), Dr. Morey, the techs and the front desk staff are so wonderful, attentive and helpful. They always remember my girls and consistently check in on them. They don't gouge you on cost either--I always think I'm going to end up paying double what I end up actually paying. Their facilities are clean and relaxing and the Stafford location is large enough with enough exits that you can even go in with your pet during Covid which means everything to me. We were warmly greeted immediately upon entering, taken right to our room and seen by our technician right away. Everyone was super kind and thorough. They were great with the dogs and explained everything. Received a follow up call early this morning to check in on how they were doing. Fantastic, kind and caring service. I would NEVER trust this place with my dog. The "little boy" vet is mean and seems to hate his job. The animals pick up on his negative vibes. He has no customer manners. The place is SO expensive! We had to make the difficult decision to euthanize our 17 year old cat. I called the office and they were very empathetic and quick to get us an appointment. Upon arriving to the clinic we were greeted by a vet tech who quickly got us to a room, set up blankets, brought in tissues and made sure we were well cared for while we waited for the vet. Dr. Makucewicz came in and explained everything, answered our questions, and carried out the procedure with such care and compassion. The vet tech that assisted was so sweet and expressed her condolences. About a week after our office visit we received a hand written card expressing their sympathy for our loss. The card was signed by all the vets, techs, and office staff. It meant a lot to us that they took the time to send out a card and it really helped by 5 kids process the loss of their beloved cat. Fenton River made a very heartbreaking experience a little more bearable. I would highly recommend them to anyone seeking out a vets office who treats your pet like one of their own. Has taken care of all of my animals before we had to put 2 down. The staff is absolutely amazing and take care of your pets like their own. They are reasonable with their prices and never try to price gauge you. I'm bringing my dog in for a neuter and they told me around $450 while other places i called wanting $700-$1,400 (other vets said that bloodwork, meds, and anesthesia may be an extra cost). Meanwhile, pre bloodwork, anesthesia, meds, etc. are all included in the price for Fenton. NO WAY I'm leaving Fenton River! read more

The experiences have been very good when tolland first opened, and stafford was great. Tolland seems to have hired new vet techs, they seem young and inexperienced. I'd say it would be best to recommend older more experienced techs or asking any young techs about their experiences with certain procedures or animals. I loved stafford, once again when tolland first opened it was very very worry free and helpful. I think the main flaw is experience among techs. read more

Our beloved 10 year old Goldendoodle, Mushu, became a patient at Fenton River just a short time ago when she began to have seizures going into her old vet clinic. We then turned to Fenton River Mobile Vet to come to the house. We could not have been happier, especially Mushu. Unfortunately as things would happen not long ago she started limping. Getting her to have the x-ray was not easy (because of the seizures) but Dr. Garner was able to accommodate our needs and Mushu was able to get her x-ray without any stress or seizures. Unfortunately what was first thought to be a ligament tear turned out to be osteosarcoma. We were given the dismal prognosis and options for treatment. Given her anxieties and seizures we decided for palliative care and keep her as comfortable as possible. Our poor sweet girl declined more rapidly than expected. When we called with our decision to proceed with home euthanasia (on a SATURDAY)the entire staff moved mountains to make this possible. We cannot express our sincere gratitude enough. It means more than you could ever know that there are such caring and compassionate providers. Special thanks to Mary and Kecia for rearranging the entire schedule and to Dr Garner and Stephanie for coming out to provide the most comfortable and peaceful passing of our sweet girl. I moved to Tolland about 10 years ago & was continuing to drive to Rocky Hill with my 2 dogs because after trying a couple local vets, was not at all impressed. Boy am I glad I gave it another try with Fenton! Their doctors and staff are superb! They are so caring and accommodating. Dr. Scott Morey treated my cat after several years of gradual weight loss, ear and dental infections, and malnutrition. She saw five other vets during this period and she seemed to have an undiagnosable problem. By all, she was treated with unimaginative shotgun antibiotic treatments, ear drops, tooth extractions etc. without results. Because of her weight loss (11 lbs down to 5), we had to resort to feeding her all of her meals via a feeding tube. She hated it and fought every step and it was traumatic to administer it. One night we came to the conclusion that the treatment plan wasn't going to work and she wouldn't make it if we didn't take drastic action. We took her to the emergency vet office in Rocky Hill, where Dr Scott Morey worked previously, and within 30 minutes we're able to determine the root cause of her health problems. A massive hairball was filling 75% of her stomach capacity and limiting food and fluid from going into her digestive system! Dr. Morey took her in for emergency surgery and removed the hairball. No one had seen anything like it... Dr. Morey's analytical and inquisitive nature combined with his willingness to think outside of the box saved our cats life. After a quick recovery, she was gaining 1lb/month and was back to her healthy 11 lb weight after 6 months! It was amazing to see my kitty healthy again! Dr. Morey now sees her via home visits, given her aversion to going to the vets office, after so many bad memories. By the way, the vets we used were all well reviewed and recommended. Dr. Morey is really in a different league. I couldn't imagine taking my pets to any other vet. read more
