Over the years Ace Hardware has evolved into a state of the art hardware store. I was shopping at the Ace Hardware at 3404 West 95th St in Evergreen Pk IL today and got help from one of the store worker to see if they carry an item I was looking for, needless to say as usual Ace came through again. Ace Hardware is a local trusted helpful Hardware store. Lowe's, Home Depot and Menard's is ok, but Ace Hardware is still in a class by itself. As soon as a worker see you he or she are ready to help you ASAP, unlike the big box stores. The cashier is very informative as well to assist you in finding the items you're looking for. After attempting to explain that I would not be available and they were supposed to be delivered 4-1-26 and I have an email to validate that. At that point, they became extremely rude. I was told when they would be delivered and that was that. I was at home that day and the delivery driver was getting ready to leave them on the sidewalk. At that time I cancelled the order. I NEVER received an apology or an explanation for the mix up. I had been shopping at this store for 19 years, but no more. Additionally, most of the personnel speak EXTREMELY POOR ENGLISH.

I asked two different male employees in two different areas of the store for help, and both gave me incorrect directions that sent me to the opposite end of the building, forcing me to walk the full length of the store multiple times for no reason. Each time I asked a female employee, I was given the correct aisle and real help immediately. One female associate even said she knew exactly which male employee I was talking about, which suggests this behavior is known internally. I escalated this to the General Manager, Juan Horton. He asked me to call him, gave me a number that did not work as a direct line, I notified him by email, and he never followed up. This wasn't just bad service. It was a repeated, directional pattern of obstruction that only happened with male employees, while women employees were competent and helpful. That is gender-based discriminatory treatment, on top of a complete management failure. This is a store culture problem, not a one-off mistake.

Drive all around to the yard pick up for any online orders. No matter how small. I like this but they could say it everywhere at the storefront. Anywhoo, plenty can't just be picked up in-store when ordering online. They'll have to deliver it. Egg swing chair for the patio has a $260 delivery charge while the chair is $140. C'mon. Now. I know they have to pay for the racing team and don't want to pay for delivery but $200+ for an address that is 3 miles from the store or an address that's in Charlotte shouldn't be the same. Shop with caution. Store personnel is always knowledgeable here. That's the win. Pick up is stressful as it led me to go from 3 stars to 2 stars. Gotta have ID. YEP, this ain't Target nor BestBuy. Only saving grace it's equally applied to everyone.... THE STRESS.
