Well, another family owned restaurant in a little bitty town. We are in Monahans , Texas for our aunt's 100th birthday! Her daughters reserved a room at Fermin's for birthday supper. Even with 40 people, service was quick and friendly. Start with chips and salsa, which was delicious! I almost ate too much! My chili rellanos were different, and delicious! My brother ate his so fast I didn't get a picture. Fermin's is one of the most popular restaurants in town, and I see why. Hopefully we will be back for birthday 101! read more

Was traveling on my way home to El Paso but was hoping I hadn't gone so far west I might not still be able to find some Tex-Mex. Well Fermin's came up on my yelp and some of the food looked good so I gave it a shot. Walking In, if you're looking for a nice Mexican place with a nice Hispanic feel and ambiance this ain't the place. It looks like a city diner that someone decided to change into a Mexican place. But kept all the decades old diner booths and tables and drab beige-ish brown walls. Pic of the booth was what a saw at EVERY SEAT I passed. Badly cracked and in desperate need of recovering. Same old diner chairs and tables in the center of the room which was a horse configuration surrounded on the left and right and back with same identical unloved booths except where the small hall cuts out for the restrooms. The service was adequate. Sorry no food pics. My phone died. The lady who was taking my order was knowledgeable and when what I was looking for as a combo plate wasn't exactly on the menu, she found a way to make it work so I could get what I wanted. So kudos to her. Th chips and salsa were nice, the chips slightly warm. And the salsa spicy. When you order cheese enchilada it says in the menu "your choice of cheese" so I never had that before so I asked what choices? She said yellow and white. LOL! Well that tell me nothing. I needed to know exactly what it was, I have some dietary issues and some cheeses I can't have. So she went and asked and was told cheddar and Monterey (jack I assumed) so I ordered the two Monterey cheese enchiladas wirh queso because it said on the menu their their choices were queso, green sauce or spicy red sauce ... I was hoping for Tex-mex chili gravy but they didn't make them that way here. So I asked how spicy the red sauce was and. She said much spicier than the salsa for the chips so that settled it for me, my taste birds are a whimp, so I got queso covered Monterey Enchiladas with a two crispy corn ground beef tacos, rice and refried beans and sweet tea. The tea was Texas sweet and on point. When I got my plate it looked ok but the plate itself was Cold and the cheese sprinkled on top of my enchiladas wasn't even melted, the little bit that was on top of the beans was melted from the heat of the beans... but the whole plate would have been more tasty and appetizing I think if it had had been stuck under the broiler or a salamander for a few minutes to melt and meld all those flavors and crisp the top of the rice. So I cut into my enchiladas which is covered in just plain old Velveeta queso.. and a lot of it. And it has cheddar cheese inside, not Monterey Jack, as I had picked for my choice. But I took a bite with all that Velveeta Queso dripping off and fresh diced onions on top and omg it tasted amazing like that ! I wasn't even mad it wasn't what I ordered. Cheese on cheese wrapped in a corn tortilla. I just wish the top shredded cheese had been melted too. You like to see something string from your enchiladas when you cut into them just like you like to see stringy cheese when you pull a slice of pizza. IF THE CHEF had of used Monterey Jack cheese inside as I had ordered, it would have been stringy when hot and melted and cut into to take a bite away. The tacos were perfect and just what I was looking for in a taco. The place filled up as I was there with lots of what I assume were oil field workers or maybe gas field workers. The prices here are not too bad. There are a few blankets nailed to the walls that look like maybe they were bought at a Mexican market and really that's it for the decor. The place needs a whole remake inside to make it more welcoming and comfortable. It needs to do some typical things all Mexican places do like serve food on hot plates. Remember even David Letterman used to joke on his show that Mexican restaurants are the only ones where they bring the plate to the table with pot holders on and tell you "be careful, the plate is very HOT!" Because it is .. to maintain the heat. So your food isn't getting cold or arriving already cold or cooling as you eat.. And make sure cheeses are melty... on things they should be. I'd stop here again for those queso enchiladas... but I want the Monterey Jack next time! read more

The server was friendly and attentive. The chips and salsa were refilled promptly. I had the Asado, which was deliciously smoky and had the right amount of heat. The dressed XX was the perfect temperature. We went as a group of 7 and had called about 10 minutes before we arrived. They had the tables put together for us before we got there and accommodated the one person in a wheelchair well. read more

I thought the food was mediocre at best. The ambience was unwelcoming. The food was quick. eat here if you want food poisoning.

Most restaurants close after the lunch rush but Fermin's stays open! We are seniors and like to eat our last meal for the day around 3:00. It's quiet and the waitress and staff are friendly. Most of the dishes come with beans and rice, however if you don't like cheese you might need to tell the waitress, there is lots of cheddar on the beans. The portions are generous. Looking for good food driving off of I-20 was tough but so glad we kept searching. Our server Kathy was super helpful especially with our little kids. Not crowded, plenty of parking. I ordered online and when I walked in the restaurant none of the workers were wearing masks. my burrito is just a tortilla with beans folded in half. the guacamole seemed like un seasoned over ripened mashed avocado. the rice was good though. the hosted upfront was nice. read more

All things considered, this is probably the best restaurant in town. Wait staff is friendly, food is decent, and it's reasonably priced. Downside is they don't have margaritas. Must have margaritas at a Mexican restaurant to get that 5th star. read more

I came eat here with my mother for lunch one day and her taquitos were not cooked all the way. She ate RAW BEEF before noticing. After we spoke to the waitress about it she said this "happens sometimes" because they don't cook the beef before rolling it. They didn't offer to compensate for possibly giving her food poisoning and said that maybe she'll "have better lunch next time." This is the worst experience I've had with something like this. I travel for work, so I have eaten at some terrible restaurants. But this place takes the cake. The food I was served was absolutely disgusting. Not even sure what they are trying to pass off as "meat". I ordered Taquitos to be "SAFE". I took a bite of one and instantly spit it out. I eat here every couple months when I come into town for groceries. The food is pretty good, I really like the refried beans and always get a container to go. I enjoy the atmosphere here especially the giant mural on the wall (I always request to sit near it). The cooling colors of the blues are very relaxing and makes a nice scene after a long day of running errands in the city. A person was there painting on my last visit and it was real entertaining and kind of relaxing to watch while eating. A couple co workers and I had dinner at this establishment and I couldn't be happier. We have tried other Mexican restaurants nearby by this restaurant has them all beat. The food is pricey but it's worth it. The service and cleanliness of the restaurant is outstanding. I will probably return to eat Mexican food here. Around Monahans & Kermit, this is probably the best Mexican restaurant to eat. We had fajitas and kids had enchiladas, everything was delicious. They look a little old, they were busy but service was still good. Our favorite dish was the queso blanco which other places around don't serve. read more

Limited options out here as far as dining. Hot sauce is decent, shrimp quesadillas are pretty good, anything else I've tried is not worth the price. Queso is expensive and I can make better velveeta than that. Service is extremely slow, the servers don't seem very friendly..ever. Heaven forbid you ask someone who isn't your server for something. Ok place. Decent Tex-Mex food. Fajitas were decent, the sides were ok. Good chips and ok salsa. I paid $14 for combo fajitas and a soft drink for lunch. For a town with little options this place is ok but a bit pricey considering the food isn't great. Its just tex-mex food so there food has no seasoning I seasoned the fajitas with salt and pepper because they were a bit bland. The service wasn't great either. Its a place with good potential but I feel there food is a bit mediocre like a lot of the tex-mex joints I've been too. read more

Ate here for the first time last week and it was delicious!!! Knocking off a star for service, or lack thereof... Our server wasn't very attentive and looked like she didn't want to be there (she probably didn't, can't say that I blame her because who just looooves working?) and we had to ask for drink refills, more chips, and then we sat at the table for about 5 minutes when we finished, empty plates stacked and clearly ready for our check. Kept trying to make eye contact or catch her but she avoided us - not the greatest way to get a good tip. We finally went up to the counter to pay, and the hostess had to go hunt the server down to get our ticket! But whatever.. the salsa was great and chips were probably the best we've had EVER (and we eat a lot of Mexican, trust me...). Generous portions and tasty chicken enchiladas only helped seal the deal that we'll be back... hopefully next time, we'll have better service. If you're wanting a cute, well decorated place with more ambiance, go to Habaneros. But if you want some of the best chips you're ever going to eat and don't care so much for the atmosphere, then by all means choose Fermin's! read more

Bad experience. The first waitress made a mistake with our appetizer, which was fine. But sending it back really seemed to irritate our main waitress (Miss Personality). She was gruff and snotty the whole rest of the the time we were there and it took a good 45 minutes to get our main dishes. We really felt we were being harassed and that Miss Personality hadn't turned in our order for a long time. When the chile relleno burrito arrived it had a weird dark mystery meat on it. I ate only one bite of it and left it. I have eaten chile relleno burritos all over the country and none of them ever had meat in them. I didn't want to talk to Miss Personality about it so I went to the cash register and talked to the owner. I asked her if a chile relleno burrito should have meat in it and she said that theirs did. I said I didn't like it and that Miss P was gruff and the food took a very long time coming. She apparently told Miss P that we had complained about her attitude, so when we checked out at the register Miss P stood there and glared at us the whole time. That made the entire experience that much more unpleasant. read more

I've eaten here on multiple occasions throughout my lifetime. Have never been overly impressed, but it has really gone downhill in food quality. I get the chicken and veggie plate and will say that it is really good. The Mexican entrees I have seen others get did not look appetizing and we're not enjoyed. My poor daughter didn't want anything to do with her supposed chicken Flauta. I think we could have hammered nails with it. She did like the rice so she didn't go away totally starving. My moms meal had a cheese melted mess on top of everything on her plate. She eats there so rarely anymore that she said she forgets to tell them to keep their cheese. We've always had decent service, but that could be better. They are open very regular hours and I think that is what really keeps them busy. I've found that it can really be tough to find an eatery with regular hours in Monahans Texas. read more

Very disappointed!!!! We LOVE Fermin's. It has been an important part of our life being from Monahans. It is a must-have meal when we come back here to visit family! So, I was VERY disappointed when we called to get take-out on one of our last nights in town, only to be told that they are not taking to-go orders because they are too busy... Our family members are unable to travel to the restaurant due to health issues, so this truly is our only option! Very disappointed! To-go orders should be easy! Food is chili hot but lacks some flavor to finish off the palette. I liked the chips that came with the salsa, they are like chili's. Thin and crispy. Chicken red Enchiladas were good and hot just needed to add some flavor to finish off the palette. There unsweet tea with sweeten low and lemon is great. Just like it should be.
