Six months later, we contacted them again, explaining we were ready to move forward, but that we didn't know what style we wanted. Steve said he'd been thinking about our home and had a unique idea in mind. We worked with him to design the concept, and Steve was wonderful the entire time. He took the time to explain to us how everything would come together, and to walk us through all of the material and design choices. He was also so friendly to all of us, including my mother in law and young children. He even had our little ones make hand prints and write their names with the date at the bottom as the final step! I called Charles and Son Construction & Landscaping to get an estimate because I prefer someone local and was pleased with their online reviews. Carlos arrived as scheduled to write up the estimate. He immediately suggested re-using the blocks since they seemed to be in decent condition and would save money. I met with another company the day prior and was originally planning on getting a 3rd estimate. After getting Carlos' very reasonable estimate and asking a few question regarding timeline, I approved the estimate and was ready to move forward. Just 3 days later, the work started and was finished just 4 days later with a Sunday and a rainy Monday that was a wash out. I was so pleased since this has been on my todo list for the last several years and relieved to have it done correctly. My neighbor was also pleased to get part of his yard back. I highly recommend Charles and Son Construction & Landscaping for any outdoor project. You won't be disappointed. The install began with laying out a perimeter feature board, followed by the main deck boards of a contrasting color to make the deck even more beautiful. There were several mitred corners to be dealth with as well as stairs. By the end of the day, the entire deck including stairs was completed. I think we had a 1/2 board left over. The yard was swept so you would have never had known any one was there. Everyone in the crew was friendly and a pleasure to work with. They even allowed our dog, Beans, to oversee the work. David was great and patient the entire way through the process. Answered all my questions, concerns, worked around other projects, etc. i never had a reason to think he isn't the right guy for the job, heck, he may still be if I ever learn the backstory. The issue is, I cant get in touch with him now that I am having a slight issue with the driveway. One, that will only get worst if not fixed, I have called numerous times and sent at least 5 messages via Angie's List since roughly July 3rd. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt (sick, out of the country, on vacation, busy season, etc). However, it is almost going on a month and I'm stuck wondering how to proceed as he hasn't responded. Even other contractors dont have anything bad to say about him, but do suggest the driveway wasn't compacted with a "heavy enough" roller. Thus, the cause of the slight indentations in the driveway (have gotten worst since originally typing this). The entire point of paving my driveway was to get rid of those and much, much worst damage that the driveway had. Everything else is great - pitches good, survived the scaring, no damage to my new fence or patio pavers, WAS (before he got all my money) a great communicator, started/finished on time. I am hoping you see this review and resolve the issue so I can leave the review I was going to originally leave (all great comments). Anyone else reading this, take it for what it is...maybe something else is going on that is more important than work right now..who knows.. I just hope the one year warranty is honored. part 2) I changed my review to F because I have been waiting for over a month and I now know the company is active and still around. Now, the only recourse is small claims court and the attorney generals office. all emails, phone calls and fax messages ignored since July 3rd. It is now August 25th, 2019. To make matters worst you redid a driveway 8 houses down from me and still didn't stop by or leave a note. You probably got the business from the sign you left at our house. I hope you sleep well at night knowing you screwed me and my family out of $3500.. .so much for my 7 year old having a smooth driveway to play basketball on, which is half of the reason I fixed the driveway.
