Although they have very minimal outside seating it is dog friendly! I ordered the Cali Burrito which is something completely different than I would expect ...in a great way! It had carne asada...avocado..and French fries inside the burrito. Yes..French fries! It worked..one of the best I have tried! It was huge and of course plenty of leftovers! Everything was perfect! We both had the calamari steak which was tender and yummy! The only thing missing was a little salad, though they did serve it with Mexican rice and a serving of carrots and green beans which were hot and still crunchy. :-) for dessert we had raspberry cheesecake which was homemade and absolutely delightful. Oh, and don't forget the service which was top notch! The only negative on this place is the parking situation. Located in downtown Yuba City, it's a busy section of town, you may have to circle the block a few times before you find a spot! Fernando's Cali kitchen is a great spot for a fusion of options that include Mexican, Italian and American cuisine. It's easy to find something on their menu that you'll really enjoy. I chose the salmon filet (one of my favorites) that comes with a side of rice and choice of salad or veggies. I recommend the Sonoma salad because it's delicious. Try the agua fresca and their tempura shrimp as an appetizer. You won't leave disappointed. read more

This restaurant is located in the heart of what is downtown Yuba City and serves up a really diverse menu. The staff here is super friendly. The inside of the restaurant is brick with high ceilings which gives it a really cool vibe. I'd been wanting to try their food for some time now and it surpassed my expectations in every way. We started with chips and salsa. They weren't complimentary but I suggest ordering them as the chips are thick and crunchy, the pico is piled high with great flavors. My girlfriend, her mother and I looked over the menu. The pasta here stood out to me as I had seen pics on Yelp. They both decided to go with the carnitas plate. Once the food arrived I was impressed by the huge portions, every plate was filled to the edge. My pasta came with two big slices of garlic bread which although really good was strong with garlic flavor, I liked it but my lady was taken back by it a bit. The pasta itself was amazing, the Portuguese pasta comes with linguica, chicken and shrimp as the proteins. So many deep flavors on this dish it will be hard to go back and order anything else! This was one of the best dishes I've had at a restaurant in a long time. This restaurant deserves your visit if you can make the trip, you won't be disappointed. I plan on trying more of their pasta and also the calamari. The chef and kitchen here take dishes to new heights and I can't wait to visit again. read more

Good lunch spot in downtown Yuba City. I will start with the positives... the location is great and there is a cool vibe to the area around the spot. Fernando's is in an old brick building and has a homey feel to it. The menu is eclectic with a mix of Italian and Mexican influences as well as some quintessential California favorites like the tri-tip sandwich. All of the food was good and I especially enjoyed the shrimp scampi pasta. For the not so good, our service was a little disjointed and slow. We also struggled to keep our glasses refilled but not the end of the world. At the very end it took forever to get out check and then we had to walk to the front to finally pay so we could get out the door. Again not the end of the world but could have been better. I was so excited upon waking up this morning to drive to Yuba and have a birthday lunch at Fernandos. We rarely go out so this was even more special. I of course ordered the Portuguese Pasta I have previously had on 2 visits. We got there prior to lunch and it was great to see they are busier these days. Unlike before, when the pasta dish arrived, it was NOT piping steamy hot. The waitress did not put fresh shaved Parmesan on it like they did before. It looked like maybe a teaspoon of more processed type. I did not see nor taste any basil. There was no real sauce of any sort. Could not tell if there was any cream nor butter sauce. Chicken broth? Broth? Nope, my celery carrot broth I make at home for soups had more flavor! The chicken had NO flavor, like it had been boiled for broth. There was no tang nor any visible capers? I think I would of noticed that as I made Chicken Picatta the other night. The dish was overpowered with raw garlic. Suprised there was no salt that I could taste either. It was like a bowl of plain pasta. I ended up not eating it and sadly I will NOT be returning. I really loved the first two time there. read more

My husband and I both enjoyed calamari as appetizer - portugués pasta was so good- but they need bigger forks cause it was tough to pick it up with small forks they have. Five stars for the food all the way! I'm only docking one star because they literally, and I'm not exaggerating, have gotten every single order wrong. They just don't pay attention to the details and if you ask for something to be left off, they don't do that. So if they just try harder to customize orders appropriately, I would give them 10 stars. Wow I loved this place so so much! The hostess was awesome, very sweet. I don't speak Spanish and she barely spoke English. But we got through the ordering process with no problem and she checked on us multiple times. The fish tacos were better than I'd ever imagined. The chipotle sauce is tasty and a teensy bit spicy. The salsa verde is delicious. But the pineapple salsa steals the show. Excellent addition! These are messy but wouldn't you know it, they bring you TWO napkins in advance. I love it. The restaurant is roomier than it seems, with three rooms. The AC might have been off though because it was 97 F outside and it was pretty warm inside too. But I will go back as many times as I can. Celebrated my brother-in-law's BD at lunchtime last Friday! He indicated the food was great; he was right! He had Calamari steak; tender and delicious; two of us had salads with grilled chicken; also delicious. The fourth member of our group had fettuccine with prawns...again, delicious! Service was friendly plus our food was prepared in a timely manner. Restaurant is limited in seating but well worth a wait if needed. First time checking this place out. It is small and casual inside with about ten tables in multiple rooms. We started with the honey chicken crisps. I was expecting some heavily deep fried chicken strips - what we got was some lightly breaded, handcut chicken pieces. The sauce was very nice, and you could definitely taste the honey - we wished it had been a bit more spicy. I would come back for the chicken. I also got the Cali burrito, which was good but lacked texture. I appreciate the smooth beans, but the fries were so soft that they were like mashed potatoes. The carnitas were good inside and provided the only bit of texture. I wish the outsode of the burrito would have been grilled or the fries were crispy. I did ask for some hot sauce because it was definitely missing some sort of salsa (I thought it came with Pico, but there was none in there). The man got the wet burrito that he added shrimp and steak. His burrito had rice also inside and had a really good Chipotle mayo sauce on top. His burrito was like a 9/10. There are a lot of menu items, including many seafood options, pastas, soups, and even jambalaya. Staff was friendly enough more like take your order and check in once in a while - no small talk. I guess if you want chips and salsa you have to ask for it - we were not offered but we heard another guest ask for them and they were brought out (may have been an extra charge?). Overall, it was a decent meal, and I will come back to check out the other options. Prices definitely vary from $10-$30, and there was no separate lunch menu. read more

What a find! Had seen the signage, but never thought to stop. Was perusing Yelp and spotted it on the app. "Mexican-Italian"? Ok, that's a must try. Had to wait 10 minutes for them to open and it was worth every minute. Attractive inside, they have taken three very small businesses and combined them into one. This gives you small dining areas that are less noisy and a bit more intimate if you want, but still a fun place. The service is wonderful, the servings large, (we took home enough for another meal), and the flavor and appearance of the meals was awesome. Bill had the calamari and I had prosciutto and prawns. Oh my oh my it was all wonderful. This is a gem of a place with wonderful staff. The menu is not what you're going to expect. It really was a fun place. read more

I don't often write negative reviews for restaurants because everyone has their own preference; however, I need to speak out for the unfair pricing. I ordered a wet burrito, and the menu stated $4 to add shrimp. I asked the waitress if I could mix shrimp and fish, and she said "definitely". When the bill arrived, the extra shrimp and fish was charged $14 rather than $4. I thought they accidentally had a typo. But, when asked about it, the response was, "I know it doesn't say in the menu, but extra fish is $10. We don't normally add both." Well, that should have been disclosed when ordering since it wasn't written on the menu (only stated at checkout when I will obviously pay since I consumed the food). My other concern is the lack of accountability after the miscommunication. If anything, the charge should be lowered to at most $8 since it wasn't disclosed in writing or verbally, which I still think would be unfair but reasonable (but $4 per item). There was no apology, no action to remedy, or anything, so I feel very misled and taken advantage of. Another route: most places serve the chips and salsa for free--we paid for ours. She could have at least comped that for not properly notifying the cost (especially since it was no where on the menu, as she stated, and never said anything prior to purchasing). But, again, nothing. Honesty and transparency goes a long way. To say they can "definitely" combine the items and then state "they never really do that" are two very contradicting statements with an arbitrary cost that was never disclosed at any point (except the $4 on the menu). The one star rating is for service and menu pricing. The food is decent, but the lack of communication and respect was disappointing. Who would pay $24 for a burrito (with only a little fish and shrimp) when their fish entrees that have the whole fish are not even as expensive? Price gouging after the fact without any transparency nor accountability is not ok. Disappointed, but it seems a few other people had the same experience. read more

I've been wanting to try out Fernando's Cali kitchen for over a year now, and i finally got the chance to do so with a couple friends. Their entrance sports many doors from the outside, however many of them are locked! The parking is difficult, so plan on flipping U-turns and practicing your parallel skills. Once inside, the atmosphere is fine, however there is no music playing and the tables are cramped. The menu is definitely different than what you can find online, so plan accordingly and definitely expand your budget. Fernando's sports a specials menu as well, which is what I ended up ordering from for dinner. We started with Calamari, quesadillas, chips and salsa and tempura prawns. For main courses, we tried the lobster alfredo, a wet burrito, and some nacho fries. The lobster was a little rubbery, and the tempura prawns were more like deep fried prawns. The sweet chili dipping sauce was fantastic!. My poor friend was completely grossed out by the nacho fries, as the potatoes were soft and the quality of the meat was possibly out of a can. I hope she survives the night and doesn't end up at Adventist Ride Out Memorial Hospital. Lol? The restaurant has some internal confusion on display. While the dishes and the pricing may suggest fine dining, their casual cups and odd portion sizes dispel that appearance. The calamari was infant sized and we were treated to plastic cups for soft drinks. Overall I would rate this a 7/10, and would return only after trying the other restaurants on my list. A friend and I who like to meet in Yuba City for dinner stopped by Fernando's a few weeks ago for the first time! Their Yelp convinced us to give it a try since the food looked delicious and they had such unique things on the menu compared to what you'd expect at a Mexican restaurant. I got the wet burrito with chicken and it was so good! The sauce around the burrito was so tasty and unique. They had a taco salad with shrimp that other people around us ordered that I would definitely like to try sometime! My friend got the California burrito and said hers was perfect too. Such a nice little change of pace and menu items at Fernando's, especially for Yuba City! We'd love to come back again and try more things! read more

There was a car show going on for blocks on Saturday Oct 3. The streets were cordoned off. My brother and I had business in Yuba City, so after that was done, we thought we would walk around and check out the cars and the street vendors. There was live music too! It was about 12:30 right after noon and we soon felt hungry. Thought we would stop in to a local spot we could find wandering around. We found Fernando's. They seated us. We thought it was odd that the dining room was pretty empty with the crowd. They gave us menus and told us about the specials. We ordered our drinks and then the same waitress came back and asked us if we wanted any drinks. I was confused. I said we already ordered drinks. She asked if we wanted chips and salsa. I said yes. She came back with our drinks finally, but no chips and salsa. Another waitress came walking past, and I asked her for chips and salsa and hot sauce. Finally the chips came, freshly fired corn tortilla triangles, the salsa was pico de Gallo, but no one ever brought hot sauce. I noticed a waitress standing at the bar looking at her phone for several minutes, then watching the crowds outside. Our waitress tried to bring us another table's food who had come in after we did. We informed her that the food was not ours. There were only 4 tables for 2 waitresses to serve. We started to speculate if they were fill-in waitresses due to the car show. They sure seemed confused or didn't have any sense of urgency. Our chips and pico de Gallo were gone for awhile by the time we finally got our food. I ordered a New York steak sandwich medium rare and my brother got a burrito. The food was way better than expected and the steak was juicy and cooked to perfection. The roll was fresh. Since the front and side doors were left open on purpose, the flies soon started circling us and landing on our food. I did tip 20% and I am hoping they share with the kitchen. I give the food 5 stars, but the service a 1 star. Probably won't go back. read more

Yelp is not wrong - this place is very nice, but nobody was wearing masks and the bathroom could be cleaner. But I am vaccinated, like most Californians, so Covid was not a worry for me at all. That said, the food is very good. I ordered the Calamari Steak, which came with veggies (my option). The steak was cooked to perfection, and the sauce that came with it was ever do tangy. The wait staff were pleasant, but not too chatty and definitely not intrusive. The ambiance is good for Yuba City. So I am a fan of Fernando's Cali Kitchen. Just do go there expecting burritos and tamales! It is a nice upgrade from those staples. read more

I'm on the road a lot and when I'm in a new place I look for local Mexican food. This was the worst experience I have had in long long time. Absolutely zero service but the tables all around me were waited on. I requested a glass of water 4 times, never got one. It was 96 degrees in Yuba City and I was outside in the sun all-day. I ordered a margarita and it was made with rice wine and not tequila. It was the worst ever. I ordered a taco plate made with carnitas, food was OK but portion tiny. The lady next to me asked for an extra plate at no charge because she barely had any food on her plate. I waited over 25 minutes after I finished my food with my card laying out on the table and no one evet brought me a check. I ended up laying some cash out on the table and left. Came here with my boss to celebrate me getting recognizable work and it was so good. It is a family owned and operated business. I had the carne asada crunch fries and it was so tasty and a lot of it! I took 1/2 of it home and they'd till rated good the next day! I will be definitely coming here again We also had the pina drink, in which the young gentleman six that his moms make fresh Pina and it's good. He was right! Will def come here again! Food is amazing, I can't choose as everything is so good. My favorite salad is the sanoma salad and I love the seafood pasta and ask for them to make it spicy. The chips and salsa are great exactly how a traditional salsa should taste. My son gets a Carnita taco and side of sautéed veggies and fries. My daughter loves the nacho fries and all of the creamy pasta. A the service is good I just wish the waitresses would present the amazing specials they have that way I don't have to keep getting up to see or take pictures of the big board. The music and ambiance is everything(I love oldies) and for sure our family favorite restaurant. read more
