Visited July 18 2026. See my receipt as always. What a FANTASTIC find in Yuba City! It is beautifully manicured outside and the inside is tastefully done! CLassy yet understated. The outside patio is full of beautiful foliage and shade. Very pretty! Dog friendly! Let's talk about the food! I ordered steak fajitas that came with rice and beans and tortillas. The fajitas was plentiful with grilled onions and mushrooms. Very well seasoned and having grilled mushrooms in fajitas was an unexpected pleasure! One of the best fajitas I have had AND wallet friendly! They have complimentary chips and salsa. Salsa was good but of course I had to also get the hottest salsa available! They have a full bar with beer and wine as well as Margaritas. They have a nice handicap ramp leading up to the front door (fyi). It was such a nice experience and I am coming back VERY soon with my pup to enjoy the outside patio! Ps. Thank you David for your kindness and hospitality! I've been to el zarape plenty of times. The service is always good. The outside patio is a beautiful area to sit during nice weather. The frozen margaritas are delicious however the food was kinda bland. The presentation of the food wasn't impressionable and not was the taste of the food. Kinda feel like it's become basic Mexican food with not much flavor. read more

I went last night to have dinner with my daughter. I've been to this family owned restaurant for many years and recommend you try it if you haven't. I find it be a very open and welcoming experience with good food and a relaxing atmosphere. You receive chips and salsa complimentary and offered refills. My tea was filled unprompted. Our waitress was friendly and polite and staff was courteous. We had their enchiladas with beans and rice and they were good and plentiful. This place is great for date night and family gatherings. They also have a room for larger parties or small events. A family favorite. read more

Went here for lunch for the first time. Walking in, it was actually really cute! The decor is very to the restaurant. Plenty of seating. However. I noticed when we sat down there was no music! Like only on the bar side, so where we were sat, we could only hear whispers and the clatter of forks and knives. So that was a bit weird. Menu was good. I ordered the 2 item. Ground beef taco, that was drenched in oil. Like literally dripping. And then the veggie burrito, I thought was huge and surprised I got it. But the burrito was delicious! I love their chips and salsa and their salsa is nice and spicy. Wouldn't mind going here again, however not sure it would be my first choice. read more

I was surprised when I saw they have some negative reviews. The staff has always been friendly to me. The food is always delicious when I come. My usual order is the "make your own combo" either 2 or 3 items depending if I want leftovers to take home. I recommend the enchiladas. Their sauce is sooo good but definitely has some spice to it. The Azteca relleno is always a great choice as well. The food here is worth the 30 minute drive for me. read more

I don't know who Matthew H is that wrote a review of this place a few months ago, but he's either a relative of the owners or a paid reviewer. This is one of the most bland, boring Mexican food places I have ever visited. The service was friendly and the restaurant itself is cute looking, but that's where the positives end. From start to finish the food was undersalted, underseasoned, and seemingly designed for service in a geriatric care facility. Even the chips they brought to the table had no salt and were obviously straight out of the bag. Drinks were watered down and my wife's margarita tasted like it was 1/3 sugar. They couldn't even be bothered to cut up my toddler's quesadilla. I say this as a 50-year-old white man, this is a Mexican restaurant designed for old white people who have no interest in real Mexican food or flavor. The vibe in this restaurant from staff is very strange. Tried to be courteous to staff and they seemed put out to be there and annoyed. The girls were often chatting at the front. You would ask for something and they would just look at you then walk away. One of the best Mexican restaurants Yuba City has to offer. I was raised on Mexican food by my grandmother and developed a certain pallet for spices she used. One of the best Mexican restaurants in Yuba City, in my opinion. The chips have always been fresh and the salsa is saucy, not chunky. Always great flavours I never need to add salt to my food here. Today I ordered for pick up, they told me 20 minutes and it was ready by the time I got there. Normally I don't eat dinner early, I got here around 5:20pm and the place was packed! Parking lot completely full and people were airing for tables. I ordered the cheese enchiladas with vegetarian rice and beans. I always ask for no green onions on top, though it does come with it. The enchilada sauce has always been really good and flavourful. Best vegetarian refried beans I have ever had! Hard to get delicious refried beans without lard in them. My grandma ordered the cheese enchilada suiza- ala-carte. She says it was tasty and seasoned perfectly. read more

We were in town for a concert in Wheatland and were staying HomeTowne Suites next door and this restaurant was recommended by the lady at the front desk. We shared the fajitas combo and glad we did. This is hands-down, not just my favorite Mexican place in northern California but throughout the entire great state of California. I'm a Mexican food addict. It is my vice.. I have consumed many different Mexican style foods throughout the continental United States. I would encourage anyone and everyone to eat there and if you wanna know my go to ....simply ask for the owner, Dave and tell him you'll get what Hennesey gets! Honestly it's disappointing every time and this was no different. Called in an order which was read back to me incorrectly three times. When I went to pick it up I checked it before I left. One order was totally wrong, and I ordered two enchiladas with different meat in each (for two different people) and there was no designation about which one is which. When I asked how I was supposed to know which was which I was told " well we already made it so nothing we can do from here." I told them no, you need to tell me which is which. I love that this place is not too far away from where I live, and that the food is great. The service was also real good as we had a waiter who checked on us, refilled our drinks, and brought us chips and dip as we were waiting for our meal. I've never been to a restaurant that Boasted their pride of Ireland and Mexico but it was definitely a hit! Lighting is dim but I think it is what they are looking for as it emulates somewhat of a bar and outdoor dining, indoors. We also saw that there was outdoor dining but the weather at the time was fairly cold and there were plenty of mosquitoes to battle. Perhaps the only downside to our visit was the fact that we waited for our waiter for a little bit longer than expected to pay our bill. There was no clear indication that we needed to pay at the front so we took the initiative to go because we could not wait any longer. Other than that, the place is roomy, fairly clean, and open. The service was great! They gave out chip and salsa, and the salsa was good. I created a combo chili relleno, burrito, and crispy taco. It was my first time trying a chili rellno, and I like it. My mother ate here 15 days ago on 12-17 and got violently ill. She thought it was the flu but the hospital said no. She found out her two friends that went to lunch that day also got violently ill. Then she found out a group of policemen sitting next to them all got sick too. I wonder how many people got sick around that time eating there. I did read the post below that about 90% of a party group got sick around this time. I only ask because three of them ate lettuce and one didn't. Just curious what it could have been. read more

Customer service is horrible. The owner of the restaurant is very disrespectful.. I called because my soup was super super spicy could not eat it I eat here at least once every other week never had a problem. The only way they would give me a refund is if I drove the food back to them which was 20 minutes away from my house round-trip 40 minutes and it's raining outside. He says it's his policy and he does not need to post it anywhere. You just lost a customer and I explained that to him and he did not even care. They were aware the soup was super spicy other customers have been complaining all week. They said it's the chilies they're using and they can't control if they're spicy or not even though I've had this soup about eight different times never was it spicy . My husband went here for a holiday party with colleagues. Almost 90% of the people, including my husband, got food poisoning. Some additional people that my husband speaks with ate here the same day, but earlier, also got extremely sick. One of his colleagues called the restaurant to report what happened and it appeared that they just brushed it off and ask "are you sure it was our food?" I'm sorry, but if a huge number of people who are together got extremely sick, probably was your food! I looked up their latest health inspection report (which is public records) and it looks like multiple violations. Highly recommend staying away! read more

Polite service. Great ambiance. However, the food is lackluster at best. My vegan "portobello" mushroom tacos were simple sliced canned mushroom and the tacos had ZERO flavor. I'm going to guess that the ingredients they purchase are all low-cost canned or pre-processed. Mexican food isn't difficult to make, but somehow this place can't figure it out. We won't return. Lovely ambience spacious, it's nice not having to be squished up to other patrons. I wasn't terribly hungry so I just had the guacamole it was served in the yummiest tortilla shell. I would have enjoyed the bell by itself. My husband ordered the chili relleno which is my benchmark item for Mexican restaurants. Naturally I had to have a bite. He was lucky I let him finish it. Tried this restaurant for the first time yesterday. There were some pros and cons, will share below Pros - welcomed promptly at the front, restaurant is exceptionally clean, our waiter took great care of us (Steven) and was very attentive to our drinks. Also, the dish I ordered did have good flavor (smothered veggie burrito in Chile Colorado sauce) Cons - to be a Mexican restaurant and not have Horchata drink OR mole sauce OR even sweet corn cakes? I was very surprised. Our waiter says he gets asked about horchata "at least 10 times a day". I'm sure he's exaggerating, but seriously, if people want a Mexican drink for their Mexican meal, why do they not offer it? Further more, there was no music, the restaurant was silent, wish there had been some musical ambiance during our dinner. Tortilla chips were cold and unsalted. No salt or pepper shakers on any of the tables in the whole restaurant. Overall, our experience was mediocre, not sure I'd visit again. While we liked the food that came out on the dinner plate, the ambiance and options from the menu and drink selections were disappointing. read more

Went here a few months ago with a coupon that I had gotten on line, they wouldn't accept it unless it was a hard copy. Went back again a few weeks ago over an hour before their posted closing time, but they told me when we arrived that they decided to close early because it was slow. Went again today with a printed coupon showing that it expired in 30 days, they had a sign posted at the host station advertising the same coupon but when we asked our server she said that they wouldn't accept it until tomorrow.
