I went to Fernando's with a couple co-workers last week and it was an good experience. They are definitely busy around lunch time. We walked in and were seated immediately, thankfully because I was starving. The waitress came over and took our drink orders, got us our drinks, and took our food orders. I ordered the chimichanga, like I normally do at Mexican restaurants. The food came out in about 10 minutes, which was surprisingly fast for how busy they were. The chimi was just okay. It came with all of the fix'ins but it just lacked flavor. It didn't have an amazing sauce like La Mesa has, which is what I was missing. Overall, the food portions were priced right but I just though the food, (that I had), just tasted bland. Not sure if I'll ever go back. read more

It was okay. We had a team lunch and Fernando's was voted on as the place to eat. Our waitress was nice and there was no problem with our service. The restaurant was clean and looked to be well maintained. I ordered the Nacho El Kitchen Sinko. I opted for the chicken instead of the beef. This order was $10.99 and was the upgraded version of their nachos that included lettuce, olives, tomato, scallions, sour cream, guacamole and beans. My order of course is to hold the beans. We didn't have long of a wait and when our orders came out my portion was HUGE, which is totally fine since I am the #OmahaFattie! Now, to the taste...The guacamole had good flavor and overall the nachos were decent, but the chicken was a flop for me. There didn't seem to be a lot of flavor to it. If I ate a bite with everything and salsa it was better, though I think that the meat should be seasoned to also stand on it's own. As I said before the portion size was more than enough and it was worth the cost. I had plenty for leftovers. If I went back I would try a different meat option. I wouldn't tell anyone to steer clear of this restaurant as I feel like they do some good things and it is worth a try. I think others in the group enjoyed their meals. read more

We came into Fernando's on a Saturday evening. Relieved to see it wasn't crowded, we were seated quickly. Unfortunately, that's where the good ends. After being seated, it took at least seven minutes for us to be acknowledged, thanks to prolonged eye contact with the manager. Noticing we hadn't been helped yet, he took our drink order. A few minutes later we had waters! Next came an order for queso blanco. A request was made for both flour and corn chips, but only flour was delivered alongside dirty dishes. It took several minutes and attempts to flag down our server to remind her we needed corn chips and some new, cleaner plates. Once we had those, we tried the salsa on the table. I'll save you some time; don't bother with it. The queso was pretty good though - great for drowning out the taste of the salsa. With our food ordered, it came a reasonable amount of time later. Unfortunately, one of the orders was wrong. After pointing it out, the server said, "Are you sure you ordered it that way?". I said yes, and she took it away. Moments later she returned saying, "are you really sure you ordered it like that? I didn't remember hearing that.". Her attitude wasn't appreciated, especially to pass the blame to me given the track record of the evening. It wasn't surprising at all for the order to be messed up. A chorus of issues from neighboring tables continued to serenade us throughout the evening. Cold coffee. The wrong (cheap) tequila used in a premium margarita. No jumbo margaritas glasses left. Server disappearing. Dirty dishes. Unlimited tootsie pops doesn't make up for this. read more

Most Omahans have eaten at Fernandos since it's had a long standing presence. Just like pizza joints there are devoted loyalists that make it their go to for that type of cuisine Reasons to come here: 1. Standard Americanized mexican fare- you know what to expect 2. Decent prices for the amount of food 3. Extensive menu and modifications on dishes are honored w/o issue 4. Mostly seasoned friendly employees 5. you really dig the Tootsie Pops, roomy dining spaces for larger parties or the strolling magic during the weekdays 6. Their Ranch dressing is awesome ! I completely understand regular customers are given special treatments. I'm all for it. But you also need to be considerate of other customers. There were a few people waiting to be seated so my husband and I decided to sit at the bar thinking we would get faster service. There were two people that appeared to be regular customers two chairs to my right. There were also several customers across the other side of the bar. As usual the bartender was busy making drinks. Not one time did she acknowledge us or even looked at us .... maybe just say "I'll be right with you"? The hostess then walked behind the bar and went directly to the two regular customers. She also did not acknowledge us ... how about maybe give us a couple of menus? The bar tender then walked over to the regular customers. Mind you the regular customers were just a few feet away from us. Again, how about just acknowledging us and say "I'll be right with you"??? My husband could tell I was getting irritated. He said to give it a few minutes. By then I got tired of waiting as I watched both of them continue talking. So I got up and told my husband let's leave. In an instant they acknowledged us and said something about they've been busy. Sure, I could have made the effort and acknowledged them once we sat down but I was being respectful and patient. I had never been here, but have been hearing good things about it for year's. So, when a friend suggested lunch, we decided to drop in. I ordered nachos (one of my favorite food groups). They were massive and definitely enough for 4-6 people. They were good, not my favorite, but definitely nothing wrong with them. Very traditional and I didn't leave hungry. If you are looking for good, Mexican American food, at a reasonable price, with excellent service, you really should try Fernando's. They are worth the stop. read more

This was my very first time eating at Fernando's and I have to say, it was pretty tasty and well presented. We were seated right away by a very friendly young lady and was happy to accommodate our request for one of the roomier booths. As soon as we were seated, our server Nicole was right on it getting our drink order as well as some light hearted chit chat, even though it looked as though she was responsible for a pretty hefty section of the restaurant. After she took our order, she was right back to us refilling drinks and keeping us informed of the wait time our food would be ready, which wasn't really long at all. Our table had the taco salad, chili relleno plate, Tacolada, and I had the burrito fantastico. Everyone commented on the generous portioning of the meals, not to mention how delicious and cheesy they were. Fernando's definitely didn't skimp on portions, toppings and side items. I also have to add, even though the restaurant is in a strip mall setting, there was certainly plenty of parking with a short trip to their door. One thing that could definitely be worked on is the way their (I'm assuming manager or owner?) addressed one of the people in my party. He stood up to put his coat on as she was seating customers and when walking by him very rudely and very loudly told him he needed to put his mask on and that there was a mask mandate in place. Well, yes, we know that, and he had JUST stood up, so "Karen" please work on your people skills a little. You could have been a little more discreet rather than calling him out in front of the whole restaurant. As contentious as I think she was, I still give this restaurant 5 stars. I will definitely be back again, especially if I get awesome service like I did from Nicole tonight. Update January 26, 2022 Ate at the Fernando's at the 78th and Pacific location. The hostess, server, food, and service was exceptional!! This location is closer to home, not to mention a more relaxing atmosphere. This is good American-Mexican. Definitely not authentic, but especially cheesy. The chicken is moist and good quality white meat... tortillas, rice and beans are all acceptable. The hot sauce is unique, and all the food comes out HOT. Plus, they have my favorite hot sauce for this type of food, Cholula. If you care a spec about calorie intake you quickly realize you shouldn't be eating here more than once in a while. Portions are HUGE and covered in cheese. I always wonder how much cheese they use in a day. It must be a staggering quantity. Today we got there at 11:30 and lunch arrived 8 minutes from the time we (party of 8) ordered it. Now, the downside, as the lunch rush started the servers get busier and busier and the quality of service takes a severe downhill turn. What starts to look like a quick lunch even more quickly turns into an hour and a half endevor. If they could speed up service it would be a 4 star place. The other thing I can't get over is the green ceiling tiles with gold grid. Plus, there's a weird red-green 'skylight' which I'm pretty sure is artificial light... strange, yes. But the food makes me come back, even though after I don't crave it again for a couple of months. read more

We will not be returning to this location. About a month ago we ate here and ordered pico. There were no onions in it. We asked out waiter. He said that was the way it was made. We asked for the manager and she apologized and brought us out another bowl. This bowl had two small pieces of Scallions. We looked at her and said "really?" She gave us a five dollar card. Well we went back and ordered kitchen el sinko. It looked great when she brought it out only to find that the only whole chips were a few on top. All the chips under neath were broken pieces. We asked our waitress and she told the manager. Manager told us that the kitchen help is told not to waste any food. So we got broken pieces and crumbs!! Manager just shrugged her shoulders. I was excited to check this place out but it fell short on all ends. We initially ordered chili con queso as an appetizer and it was one big bowl of cheese that you couldn't dip a chip in because of its thickness. It was a peculiar consistency. We sent it back and opted for the queso blanco which was really tasty. I opted for steak and shrimp fajitas (pictured). It was pretty bland and, in my opinion, not worth the price ($16). My boyfriend had the seafood enchiladas which were pretty great. While finishing my meal, I found a black hair in my rice which instantly ruined my appetite and spoiled the positives of this dining experience. I would not recommend or return. read more

The best gringo-fied Mexican food in Omaha. Great service and the food is pretty good. I've tried their tacos and chimichanga but my favorites are pico de gallo with flour chips and, chicken and cheese enchiladas. I also like their desserts: sopapillas, churros, helados and Mexican mudball. Pico de Gallo: Fresh tomatoes, onions, peppers and cilantro. Get flour chips - they're light and puffy when fried and oh so delicious! 5/5 Tacos (rice on the side) and Chimichangas (rice on the inside): Either chicken or beef in fried flour tortilla with cheddar and jack cheese and Mexican rice, lettuce and tomatoes. Served with beans, rice, sour cream and guacamole. I get mine sans beans. 4/5 Chicken and Cheese Enchiladas: The only place I'd get enchiladas from is Fernando's. The white meat chicken that's juicy and tender. The tortilla isn't dry and they put generous amounts of sauce and cheese. 5/5 Sopapillas: Fried dough with cinnamon sugar and honey. 3/5 Churros: Churros with cinnamon sugar. 3.5/5 Helados: Translation: ice cream. A ball of ice cream covered in chocolate then rolled in graham cracker crumbs served in a bowl made of fried dough with cinnamon sugar. 4/5 Mexican Mudball: Ice cream rolled in Oreo cookie crumbs with strawberries on top, served in a bowl made of fried dough with cinnamon sugar. 4/5 read more

Just went there tonight based upon a friends recommendation of good nachos . Ordered a margarita which was literally twice the price of anything I had paid for anywhere in Omaha and was not that good and much smaller . The nachos were good "el kitchen sinko" My husband ordered sopapios for dessert which are a favorite of his They were beautiful light and fluffy . Unfortunately they had a very strong fish odor and taste . The waitress talked to someone and did admit they were cooked in same place but "oh well " was the attitude we got from them . I ran to the restroom as we left and had an overflowing clogged toilet and overflowing trash can . . This is the first negative review I have ever written of a restaurant . It was just okay. Normally when we have a hankering for Tex Mex, we head on over to La Mesa. This night we decided to change things up and try something new, so Fernandos it was! We started out with some chips and queso. I do have to ask, what's up with the queso here? While it came out piping hot, you can't dip a chip in it. Seriously, in order to eat chips and cheese, I used a fork to literally 'cut the cheese' and place it on the chip. Seems odd. For my meal I went with the 2 Enchilada Plate with beans and rice. It was a large portion, so bonus lunch the next day for me, and they were pretty tasty. Washed it all down with a couple margaritas on the rocks. Just no. On so many levels. Came here with two friends tonight. I asked the waitress if there was any spicy margaritas. She was clueless. (Then saw later there was in fact one on their menu) so I asked if I could have a strawberry margarita with some jalepenos muddled in it to make it a little spicy. She was totally confused. Asked me if I wanted them "blended in." We explained to her the bartender would surely know what we meant so she said she would see what they could do. She brought it back, I took one sip and I was horrified. It was awful. It was so thick and syrupy it tasted like spicy pepto bismol. My friend tried it and gagged. I had to add a ton of her lime juice and tequila to it to make it taste half decent. I also asked for no salt and it came with more salt than the Dead Sea. My friend ordered a jumbo margarita that was, well, standard size. Food was okay. Guacamole was bland. Salsa is literally pico de gallo. The kicker though.... I can't even believe still. Apparently they close at 10.. My friends and I lost track of time in the middle of a personal conversation, at 10:20 the owner or manager walked out of the back room all upset and said loudly "UM EXCUSE ME FOLKS, we are closed! Like I've closed down the cash drawer and we are done for the night sooooooo....!!!!!" She literally didn't even have the decency to approach our table and let us know in a professional manner. It was so extremely uncomfortable and embarassing. We all got up and walked out horrified and she didn't even thank us or say good night, after paying $100 for horrible cocktails and mediocre food. I would have been willing to give this place another chance, but the way we were verbally shoved out the door, I will NEVER return or ever recommend this place to anyone. 3.5 stars?!?! Really, Omaha? Terrible doesn't even begin to describe my experience here. The food was disgusting and uninspired and pricey for what you got. I came here with my boyfriend and his brother on a Wednesday afternoon for lunch. We were seated in a half full restaurant and we ordered the guacamole to munch on while we looked at the menu. The guacamole arrived as a large portion nestled on a bed of iceburg shredded lettuce with some fried chips. The guacamole tasted like a bag of wholly guacamole, which wasn't bad, but this is a huge turnoff for me in a MEXICAN restaurant. The guacamole was the only bearable aspect of the meal. Onto the entrees: We all chose the combo that had a taco, enchilada, and a tamale. The entrees came out wicked fast (too fast for being "fresh") and the majority of the items were...fried. The taco shell was incredibly fried and fell apart in a matter of minutes. The beef was tasteless and dry. Disgusting. The enchilada was edible. It was covered in a fair amount of sauce and smothered in cheese, but the chicken itself was dry, unseasoned, and lacked any sort of flavor. I ate this only to satisfy my deep pains of hunger. As for the tamale... it had the thickest cornmeal casing that was hardly edible. The pork inside was overcooked and dry, and tasteless. The charred pork on top really sealed the deal on me not finishing this meal. Also, their "salsa"/"hot sauce" comes in a syrup container on the table... and somehow this is tasteless as well. The waitress was shocked when we all ate about 1/3 of our meals and didn't want boxes. Do yourself a favor and go to El Alamo instead... your insides will thank you. read more

Disclaimer: This review is for the 114th location, the 72nd location is not nearly as good. Of all the places on the 114th & West Dodge lunch bonanza, this is one of my favorites. It's probably some of the best Americanized-Mexican in town. All of the food is what you would expect, and actually has some flavor. The wait staff are always friendly and don't give me dirty looks for ordering water then actually drinking it (requiring a re-fill). The best part is that even when they are super busy, the wait is not very long, and you can always eat at the bar. I now almost always order the lunch portion of the 'fernachos' (an appetizer). I know you; you're saying "cheese and beef piled on some chips, pfft" but honestly? Best amerexican lunch I've ever had (protip: get them to bake the chili sauce into the nachos, it's much better than the post-addition). Overall, this is great amerimex food with good service and decent prices. Definitely a quick lunch time favorite. read more

Started our dinner off with some pico and flour chips (which are freshly made and wonderful!!) I got the taco/enchiladas meal and the flavor was awesome!! Moving from Arizona to omaha we were worried we would have a hard time finding a Mexican restaurant we would agree on (I am pretty picky!) the service was fast and friendly and the kids menu was extensive for my picky little eater! Holy Cinco De Shit Show! Ok yes this is one of the biggest days for Mexican restaurants. Yes we are in the middle of a fake pandemic. However, if you have online ordering You should be prepared for anything! We ordered our food at 3:30pm and set my pick up time for 5:30pm. It is now 7:30pm and we have received no information on where our order is or what the ETA is. Then I called on my cellphone and was put on hold for 30+ mins and then hung up on. To add insult to injury they walked around and gave a $5off coupon for next visit. Not gonna happen and couldn't wait to tear it up. I'm going to start this review by saying that I've always enjoyed Fernando's food and service, but I have to say after tonight's experience, I will never step foot in the Fernando's on 114th & Dodge ever again. I haven't gotten food from Fernando's since the pandemic started and was craving good Mexican food that is relatively close to home. Because Covid is still very much a real thing, I chose to order online for take out. I've done this at several restaurants during the pandemic and it works like clockwork...after the order is confirmed, they give you an estimated time the food will be ready. (Red Lobster comes to mind...their online order and curbside pick up service is on point and the food is always still piping hot when I get it home. This is also true for smaller, locally owned restaurants). I called to see when my order was going to be ready and the man who answered told me they were being slammed by customers coming in to eat and my food wasn't going to be ready for 40-45 minutes. So we went to pick up the order and the man who helped us (I'm thinking he was the manager...I've seen him there before) said something we couldn't hear, so we asked him to please repeat. He then yelled with attitude in his voice, "Was this a phone in or online order??". We told him online. He then went and got our bag off the rack and brought it to the front. He placed it on the counter about 4 feet from where we were standing (he could have easily come over and handed it to us) and yelled, "order for (insert name)" then turned around and walked away with not so much as a thank you...have a nice day...nothing! Shame on you, Fernando's! Such awful customer service isn't tolerated. Also, to add insult to injury, even though it was a pick up order, I gave them a 20% tip! Regarding the food...my meal was Luke warm to cool at best...I could tell it had been sitting there for a while because the cheese was congealed. I put it in my 1700 watt microwave for 1 minute and it still wasn't thoroughly heated through. Such an overall disappointment, Fernando's. I understand you were busy, but that doesn't give you permission to be rude to your customers. There are plenty of great Mexican restaurants in the Omaha area who will be getting my service from now on. read more

I stopped in here after work with a few coworker's after they raved about this place. I was pretty bummed to find out they do not have a happy hour but was willing to give a margarita a shot. I ordered the 'jumbo' size, which is the standard size at most restaurants so I can only imagine how tiny the regular one is. It was strong, almost too strong to drink. My friend and I decided to split the blanco queso, it came out in a very large dish accompanied with their fried flour chips. As someone who does not care for flour chips I was a little disappointed by this. These chips were lighter in color than standard fried flour chips and very flakey, I was not a fan. Thankfully our server accommodated my request for corn chips. The dip tasted odd, it had a black pepper taste along with chicken broth, I've had way better queso at other restaurants. The seafood enchiladas were good, I could've done with a little less cheese and sauce. Be warned, they are very rich and I could barely finish half of one. I ordered the fried taco plate to go and my husband said they were ok. He thought the beef was pretty bland and could definitely use some seasoning. Would I choose this place again? Probably not, there a plenty of other excellent Mexican joints in the city. read more

First time here. Ordered the queso (thick one). Different From any other queso I've had. Texture was good but not much flavor. Chips had no salt so were bland. We split the pork tacos and the chimichanga. Pork was good. Not dry, but had no flavor. Chimichanga was the same. Just bland. Didn't care for the red sauce on the table so couldn't add flavor. Green salsa that came with the pork tacos was good, I'm just not a big green sauce fan. Rice was fluffy, but again, flavorless. Don't like beans so didn't order them. Server was training someone and everything was just slow. She was friendly though. There are better restaurants. read more
