The Holy Grail of Bob's Red Mill!
    Chelcie W.

This grocery store has been here since I was a kid, and hasn't changed much since then. They have a huge parking lot that's connected to a strip, where a few other businesses are located. It's like your average "Food Land" with name brand and off brand items, for a little bit more than super markets would charge. It's basically the only grocery store that's (technically) in Ferndale, so that's probably why it's been around for so long, since everything around it has changed so much. I stopped in here for some random item(s) not too long ago but while I was here, I noticed they have a ton, no like really a crazy amount of Bob's Red Mill products! From the top to the very bottom, each shelve held about 12 bags, and I couldn't believe the variety they offered. I bet it was every kind that Bob makes. I love to cook, so a lot of time I'm searching Kroger and other markets for some of these items, when all I had to do was come to Ferndale Foods! They offer items such as granola, cornmeal, pie crust, TVP, nutritional yeast, and gluten free products too such as cookies, cakes, pizza crust and cornbread mixes! I'm going to have to really look around next time to see what else I can find :)

They overcharged me 89 cents last week.

The price I paid for banquet basics meals during a sale claiming that it was 5 for $5 was not 5 for $5. They charged me way more than $5. This is not the first time they have overcharged me. Last time they overcharged me the bottle deposit for a 8 pack 16oz bottles of Pepsi. They charged me then $1.20 when it should have been only 80¢. This place has been constantly under construction for 8 years, and always overcharging it's customers. Makes you wonder where they're getting the money for all of it. My guess is that's the reason why they overcharge you.

The cut-through is in serious need of cleaning and degreasing.

Visited the store on Nov 6th and the deli counter area was filthy. Personal food items left out on counter, walls with dried food and dried liquids on them, and in serious need of a wipedown. I snapped pics with intention of filing a complaint with Oakland County Health Dept. I am not sure if that will accomplish anything but the deli area should NOT be selling food with the poor conditions of the counters and walls.

One of the few stores to carry my fave taco sauce.

I just like this market... I've been going there for over 30 plus years. Just relationship and food quality is what matters most.

It's a good neighborhood market. When everyone else is crowded, Ferndale Foods is the place to go.

Running in for flowers allowed me to also restock on my Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle Shampoo. I am brand loyal! This shampoo gets my hair literally squeaky clean. The conditioner is awesome too. The hours of operation are 9am - 9pm. The service is great with several registers open and available for checkout. I love that they still use brown bags with handles for checkout. I believe this is the largest Kroger I've ever been in (that would be Smith's for you west…read morecoasters). Not very old but still clean and packed to the gills with a myriad of good stuff. They've taken a nod from Fred Meijer and his previous "Thrifty Acre" methodology. I must admit it's the first time I've seen clothes in a Kroger! So I bought a pair of shoes. The variety has naturally expanded in response to the influx in building size. Good for us. Prices are a bit steep, I'll attribute that to pandemic, for the time being. The parking lot is huge. The bathrooms are a bit battered, but clean. The lighting is a little bright in some areas, lacking in others, which is weird for a super-store like this. What little staff that I do see, seem overworked, but they're still friendly. When I first came in I immediately noticed a lack of cashiers and extremely long lines. A distinct problem in metro Detroit, even before pandemic. While it's incredibly frustrating for a guy like me, I'm giving Kroger a pass on this, my inaugural visit, due to the Covid situation and the "unemployment-paying-better-than-cashiering-so-we-can't-hire-enough-help" theory. I honestly have no faith that this will change in the near future. But I've been wrong before! Caution. Take heed. Unemployment benefits won't last forever and Kroger is making massive advances with their "Scan and Go". As many of you know, I refuse to use these machines just in general principal. I enjoy visiting with the check-out people too much. But fair warning to the lazy, when the day comes that I'm in a hurry, the lines are long, and I only have a few items, you might see me use them. If it then becomes a habit and I give into the corporate mentality, well, that will be a sad turn of events. 05/21
