Nick took the time to help pick out some really perfect items for my musically gifted father who is an Legend in Upstate, NY. He doesn't need much from me but personal items like Wildwood pics and some quality guitar polish will really mean alot to him. Special Shout to Nick for for making my 3rd trip to Arcata enjoyable and welcoming. Where do I start?!…read more Brian is the coolest guy I know. He is also the most talented musician and most entertaining performer ever! He knows how to play a million instruments and all styles of music. He was in a very cool touring band and is super humble about it. He is great teaching both kids and adults, which requires very different teaching methods. Have you seen School of Rock the movie? He's basically a real life Jack Black full of awesome, inspiring, rock n' roll energy! I started pursuing music at Brian's school when I was 18 and am now pursuing music professionally! Brian's school was where it all started for me. He gave me the opportunity to perform on stage for the first time, a Led Zeppelin cover show! I found my passion for singing rock music right there on stage and haven't stopped pursuing it since. I was enrolled at Brian's music school until I moved out of the area. I had an awesome vocal teacher and also dabbled in guitar, piano, and drum lessons. It was so cool being able to try everything! He even taught me a lesson on bass when I needed it last minute, and I know other people who took trumpet and ukulele from Brian! I loved the school and the environment so much I even ended up teaching there! The staff he hired were all super friendly and professional. The students and parents were all really kind and it was a joy working there. Brian's unique and friendly personality ignited a passion for music in many kids who I'm sure had no idea they would fall in love with it. He really knows how to cater to all levels of musicians and most importantly, have FUN. I strongly encourage you to go take a lesson! Try a new instrument or hone your skills on your main expertise. The most fun part is performing in a show at the end of the season! Having the pressure to learn your parts really encourages you in a special way. You don't want to let down the band! I grew up taking piano lessons with a teacher that was too strict to the point where I would come home crying from every lesson. I didn't want this for my sister as she was looking for piano lessons to be fun. After talking to a few older teachers in Eureka and feeling like they were way too serious. I finally found Brian and The Eureka Music School. He was super casual and cool. So my sister just had her first lesson and loved it. He seemed to know how to simplify piano playing which made it fun for my sister and she feels like she's already progressing fast. I'm glad I helped her find a good one and I can't wait to hear about how future lessons go. Brian is an awesome guy who seems to be able to play every instrument imaginable and he is a great teacher! If you've never been to a drum circle, you're really missing out. I attended my first here in Colorado and have been hooked ever since. Sitting around and playing various instruments with a group of people of differing abilities can be raucous, spiritual, gregarious or even somber. Once I attended a few, I knew I must procure my own djembe (and eventually shakers, guiros, tibetan singing bowls, frame drums, frogs and so much more). Having attended a few music festivals, I considered buying one from the many booth vendors, but the money was always spent by the end of the weekend and fitting something that large into the already cramped van was always a deal breaker. Luckily, Sageman Drums has a website that offers the same great festival worthy djembes and other percussion instruments but shipped to your door! After receiving my beautifully carved and perfectly tuned djembe, I pretty much carried it with me everywhere I went. As with any new love, I simply had to introduce everyone I knew to the joy of playing this instrument - especially since just about anyone can do it. This however, led to a tragic event - one night, while strolling in Cap Hill, the strap broke and the drum head shattered as the drum hit the sidewalk. My cry of pain and despair startled birds from the trees. The very next day I was on the phone to Sageman Drums begging for emergency surgery. They were appropriately sympathetic and even though the whole thing was my fault, they were willing to repair the head for free, all I had to pay for was to ship it out to them. Joy and Wonder! In a few short weeks, I had my drum back, good as new - no worse for the wear. And years later, it sounds as good as the day I got it. Their other percussion instruments are also impressive and sound phenomenal. I bought several for myself and for my brother-in-law, a percussion fiend.
