I don't have any experience with Trinidadian food, so it's hard for me to compare Feroza's roti to other versions. That being said, this place is awesome and definitely worth a visit. Heads up to my fellow newbs: "dal puri," apparently, is kind of like a dusty powder. It's delicious, but if you order a dal puri roti you are more or less ordering a plain roti. (When we ordered it, we had imagined that an Indian-style yellow lentil "daal" would be inside the roti. We were wrong.) It tasted great, though, so no harm done. The chicken curry is absolutely delicious, but since it comes with bones we ordered it over rice and peas instead of in a roti. It ended up being a good combination: we ate the rice and peas with a fork, and ripped off little pieces of the curried chicken with the dal puri roti. This place is genuinely worth the schlep up from Manhattan or Brooklyn, and if you're in the area anyway (to pick up supplies at Arthur Avenue or visit the Bronx Zoo), even better! As I enter the place, the line was very long, and the services was very slow. When I finally was able to order, I asked for two doubles, palorie and a solo. I recently visited Trinidad and Tabago and had the best doubles. So When I came across this place I was really excited to taste their doubles. To make a long story short this place double were nothing compared to the ones in Tabago. After eating the doubles from this place, I had a metallic taste in my mouth. UPDATE I'm back, it's now 2012. I now know there ARE chairs and tables in the back. Only a few but still, they are there. The fact this place has been in business over 20 years should tell you something. This is still the best roti I have EVER had. With a Trini wife we are always on the look out for great roti and Feroza's did not disappoint. We ordered three vegetarian roti, one lamb roti and a bottle of Matouk's hot sauce for a total of $27 which is extremely reasonable! And they gave us a free can of soda. The food was fresh and delicious. Highly recommend! We have three go to roti places in Brooklyn on Utica, Church and Nostrand... and now we are adding Feroza's in the Bronx which is easily accessible to I95. read more

These people should be ashamed to call themselves Trinidadian. I went in and asked the woman behind the counter the price of a veggie roti. She then proceeded to talk to the customer behind me instead of finishing talking to me. I said I want a chicken roti and 2 roti skins. When I got home it was a veggie roti. I have been coming here since 1982, and I always have a good experience. The only thing I would tell anyone new is to always ask if there meal has bones in it. I've asked around about other places and get a mixed answer on Roti's having none in them. I don't like bones in my Roti so I always get beef. And if you're not into the hot spicy sauces ask for it to be on the side so you can test it first. Otherwise enjoy!!!! read more

I drive an hour to get what I consider the absolute best roti, and I've had em all over the world. The staff is always extremely friendly and the food is incredible. I love the beef roti and the doubles that just about melt in your mouth. As a doctor my time is limited, but I always find the time once a week to enjoy there home made food. Dhal puri is the best thing since sliced bread. Feroza's has some of the best of it that I've had in the city. Their shrimp curry wrapped up in the dhal puri is tops! While I've had better roti elsewhere, nothing beats Feroza's shrimp to curry to potato to cabbage/onion ratio. It's heaven wrapped up in a spicy and succulent blanket of comfort. Also try their chicken curry but don't have that wrapped because it's got bones. Doubles are also delicious. While I love the food, I wouldn't eat there. read more

I literally only come here because its the only half way decent place to get a roti in the bronx. But seriously they are rude and unappreciative of your patronage. They have ZERO customer service. Feroza and her mother are the rudest people on the planet. And they always look unhappy, I've never seen these people smile. The place inside looks old, dirty and rundown. The doubles are gross, the roti is okay. The prices go up, but to me the quality of the food consistently does down. Queens and Brooklyn are both so lucky that they have an array of different and tasty roti shops to choose from. All we really have is this place, and other worse options around. I've been to this place a few times now and I usually get the same thing. Curry goat buss-up-shut, pholourie, and tamarind chutney. My favorite items at a Trini restaurant. I've recently tried their doubles, chicken roti, and pelau. I was NOT impressed at all. I've definitely had better, and I also wished I'd ordered something else, as did the others in my party. It was ok for what it was, I love my buss-up-shut, and since I don't want to go so deep in Brooklyn for a GREAT one, I'll stick to this OK one for now. read more

Well it definitely isn't bad but it isn't amazing either. I got the phoulorie and the chicken roti. Admittedly I was very hungry as it was about 3pm and I hadn't eaten all day so was quite excited and purposeful in my visit. I yelped and took a cab from my random Bx location. Anyway the curry chicken sauce didn't coat the chicken well enough to really be flavorful. The roti skin texture was perfect though. The phoulorie was good but didn't taste like split peas and subtle spices. It tasted only like fried dough. Don't get me wrong I like fried dough...But I wanted phoulorie. The area may be a little shady, but the food is worth the trip. After a long afternoon getting my hair done at the salon across the street, I was hungry. I couldn't help staring at the sign of the restaurant, and my mouth watered when I thought of Roti. I have only had Roti's from Jamaica, Queens or from my Aunt who is from Trinidad. I keep it simple and always order beef with potato and at Ferozas it was amazing. juicy tasty beef and big pieces and the potatoes were scrumptious. I want some now. I use to be obsessed with Feroza's in high school. The quality of the food was amazing like 10 years ago. It's a traditional Trini restaurant with a huge variety of food. Seems as the prices went up the quality of food has gone down. I'd still eat here time to time because I respect mom/pop biz. But I don't jump on the train to go out of my way to come here anymore. Man listen. I moved from NYC to ATL 9 years ago and I STILL remember this place. BEST goat roti I have ever had came from this place and we used to go OFTEN. Like 2-3 times per week no lie. What a wonderful place. Take away only, no place to sit down and eat, but the food is wonderful. A customer ahead of us asked if we wanted help and she explained the menu and the flavors. I didn't get her name, and she said her son was in from Virginia and this is the place he first wanted to go to. More people started coming in and my friend ordered the oxtails and palow and I said to the beautiful young lady behind the counter, give me whatever you want. She asked the other beautiful young lady, what should we give the chef and they both said, the chicken roti. While we were waiting they fed us roti type bread with chick peas (sorry that I can't remember the name) and it was amazing. I could have eaten 20 of them. My chicken roti had potatoes, Dahl, and beautiful flavours. My next trip to New York, this is first on my list. Just really amazing food. read more

The oxtail roti was tasty but two complaints: the serving itself was paltry for $10, no channa (chickpeas) was available, and the oxtails themselves were small and bony. The comparable spots in Richmond Hill, Queens give you more. But I may have to come back and try a different filling for my roti. Also the ladies behind the counter here, although pleasant, took their oh so sweet time and took 15 minutes to serve the TWO customers ahead of me, which meant I spent nearly 30 minutes in here to get already prepared, steam tray food served to me at 7:30 in the evening. Unacceptable. I can't imagine coming here for a quick lunch. But are you really gonna huff and puff at these kind old ladies? I think not. What resturaunt in the right sense would turn down a party order??? I was trying to give them business... And lots of it but the lady on the phone was way too rude and didn't want the business....
