The food was okay but not great. The container is small and price is too high. I don't recommend if you are looking to be full.

I ordered the medium sized oxtails with brown sauce, on a heavy bed of rice, surrounded by beans and a deliciously prepared cabbage cut into long strands. The oxtail portion was generous, the cabbage was outstanding and the rice was prepared fresh. I also ordered a side of Mac and Cheese which was good but the top of it had cheddar cheese that was kind of hard and crispy. If you like your Mac and extra crispy cheese on top you may like this serving, I particularly don't. But it was still tasty underneath. The service was average to slow. And the ambiance was kool. It appeared clean- floors and tables. But what I relay appreciated were the posters of influential Jamaican athletes and musicians - think Usain Bolt - the short distance runner- Bob Marley - Clifford Brown - Gregory Issacs and my fave - Peter Tosh of the Wailers. Two stars for the place:They served decent sized portions and the oxtails were cooked pretty well. That was good. The rice were pretty bland though unfortunately. The Mac and cheese left something to be desired. I'm very picky about my mac and cheese but even still it just wasn't doing anything. It gave me boxed with customized additions vibes. They give like four or five slices of plantain as part of your side. Then for my juice option I specifically asked for the kind and flavor I wanted and provided backups. I wasn't provided any of thosw. Not even the same brand. I asked for Tropical Rhythm and was given a Mystic. I asked for Pineapple Ginger, pineapple guava or mango. I received mango orange Mystic. Fortunately they were the same price and it was a mystic I don't mind so I let it slide. I saw a lot of varying reviews on this place and took a chance on ordering because the place I normally order from tripled their prices but I'm not sure it's the place for me. The driver/delivery person gets a star all on his own. He was in point, got there a bit earlier than expected and had the food ready to hand off and didn't just leave it somewhere randomly. Great service from him! Maybe I need go in person instead of doing delivery but I'm not really rushing to check it out from the this experience. Maybe I'll reconsider in the future. read more

How long has Caribbean Sunshine been open?! I could've been eating good all of this time?! Goshhhhhh!!! LOL I ordered via UberEats and am so happy I did. My food arrived packaged perfectly, food inside of paper bags (taped to ensure no movement) then placed in plastic bags. I ordered Oxtails w/ rice n peas, Jerk Wings, Mac n Cheese and Jerk Chicken w/ white rice. EVERYTHING was soooo good. What sold me was the fact that they placed gravy on both rice orders without me asking!!!! WHATTTTTTT?! That's unheard of. The oxtails were so tender and I received more than 5. Again..... WHATTTTTTT?! I'm impressed. Moving forward Caribbean Sunshine is the only Jamaican restaurant I'll order from. IDC what the delivery fee is... I'm paying it! read more

Tasty food, some of the best beef patties i've eaten, always get them sometimes with mac and cheese, my family really enjoys the oxtail (ive had before and it is excellent) and rice and peas . . . they also really like the chicken wings and various soups, cow head, goat and chicken. left one star off because they don't make beef patties daily and i come there alot to get them but not made every day read more

1st time eating here and will definitely be back. I got the large oxtail dinner. The oxtail was perfectly cooked, flavorful, and filling. Believe it was $24 for the large plate completely worth every dollar 10/10. I also had a side of the butter and garlic shrimp which, I forgot to take a picture of, but it was pretty good they pulled out easily and were seasoned well 7.5/10. I've tried the Jerk Chicken before here and its great. I usually order the Jerk Salmon though. I love the salmon because it has so much heat and flavor, they remove all the skin and bones, give you good portion and it typically comes in a flavorful sauce. Went to this place for the soul purpose of Porridge and fried dumplings. Read some reviews and really liked what I saw. So went to try it out. Hours of operation said 8 am and showed up but the place was closed and the gate was half way up. Thought, "maybe they came in late and we finishing setting up"...so I waited. Checked back again around 830 and 845...still closed. Finally tried again after 9 and it was open but just barely. I wanted to get a smoothie that they offered but the gentlman behind the counter told me it was closed. Ok. Then I asked what porridge they had and they told me they didn't have any made. Mind you that the menu offers three different kind and they had none. I then asked about the dumplings and they didn't have any made or being made. So I asked how often they had porridge and dumplings and they said "everyday"...so just not that day? I ended up buying some Callalo and acky with steamed dumplings. Thought I was frustrated and disappointed, the food tasted delicious. Especially when the Callalo and Ackii are mixed. So that's my reasoning for the 3/5 stars. read more

First, I have to say that the staff here is very friendly. Also, they are willing to accommodate their customers, which is important. You can taste this food and know it is made with love. I can honestly say that this is the BEST brown stew chicken, that I have ever eaten from a West Indian restaurant. I bought the large for only $10, and it last me for 3 days. Came in to the restaurant on July 14, 2021. Lady who served me kept rushing me though I was buying dinner for 4 members of my family. It was 10:30am so they weren't busy AT ALL. She seemed very annoyed. Strike One. Portion sizes were awful. I normally frequent a few other black owned restaurants and their portions are better. A small was technically a side order and because the lady who served me was already annoyed, I didn't want to ask for a larger size. Strike Two. I asked for a 10 piece jerk wings all flats. Was told they can't do that. I asked for a 5 piece all flat then. She gave me the 10 piece but I didn't see the big deal if I wanted 10. After all, I was buying a large quantity of food, I was beyond pleasant and friendly and if treated nicely, I would have bought the whole pan of wings. Glad I didn't. No jerk sauce and a few pieces were tough and dry. Strike Three. Finally, I got home to taste my food after feeling less than satisfied about the customer service experience. THE RICE WAS BURNT!! I don't mean that it was hard. The smell and taste was WAY OFF. I hopped on GrubHub and saw at least 4 reviews all stating the same thing. BURNT, SMOKY rice. Disgusting. Ruined my jerk chicken meal. This Caribbean restaurant dishes out delicious food. The menu has variety of Jamaican foods but eaten throughout the Islands. My favorite dinner items are the oxtails and stewed chicken. Both meals are cooked so tenderly and not overcooked.The cabbage medley is cooked just right. The plantains are tender and sweet morsels that satisfies your palate. I come here every time I am working in the area me and my coworkers make sure to stop by. Everything I have ever ordered is delicious. The portions are always excellent, but better than the taste of the food and the portions is the service. The ladies are always so pleasant. I went for lunch today under the impression that I would walk out satisfied. My experience at the store was actually the opposite of satisfied. The workers are extremely rude. I asked when they would have Mac and cheese the response was "i don't know" which I found odd being that it's early enough for them not to have ran out. I then asked the lady to drizzle some jerk sauce on my plate. She refused and told me to buy the jerk sauce so I said ok. I get to check out and ask for a military/police discount and she didn't acknowledge me. Then when I asked for the price of my $8 bowl. It went to $10 something because of the jerk sauce. This places is amazing. Customer service is on point and very affordable at that. Every time I go in thy take care of me and I am never disappointed. My go to is the oxtails because the meat fall off the bone. I told my uncle about it and turns out he has been going there for lunch for months now. I've been in NYC all of my life and I don't know much about the Bronx areas. Not many food choices in this area but I came across this restaurant while in the Bronx one day last month for work. Appears they are fairly new to the area. Needless to say the food tastes great and the staff there is very friendly. Now when I do have to come up here for work around this area, I do stop in and get a quick lunch plate. I've been helped by worker LaToya on most of my visits.
