My contractor hired Michael November 2024. He installed railings for two separate balconies. After he installed them I noticed what could have been debris or bubbles. When I first mentioned it both he and Contractor tried to convince me it was the pattern on the railing. I had to get others involved to make sure I wasn't crazy. I then found out Michael wasn't licensed and so contractor said to not have him back. I didn't pay him - fast forward to one year later and there is Rust all over the place. And contractor now claims he's not responsible bc he claims I hired him on my own when reality is he hired them. He went over engineering plans and got city permit. Anyway, I guess he finally got his license but given my experience I would not use him. His prices were also super expensive but I don't know if that's because he was giving a cut to contractor. read more

We are very impressed with Mike's work. He's a one-man-shop so be patient but it was worth it. We had three handrails we wanted made to look like existing handrails in our 1920's home and they all came out great. The installation was tricky and Mike problem-solved it all. Looks fantastic. You should know, Ferrum Iron Works makes the fencing/rails/gates, and other iron fabrications for many of the iron works contractors. Mike is so easy to work with and a savvy consultant in making your project sing. I went with a single gate and fence originally, and later changed it to an arching gate and fence on his suggestion. We needed our iron fence to be extended and have our iron fence doors repaired and flipped to pass code for our pool permit. We were notified of these changes to pass the permit last minute so I contacted Mike and he was able to get out there within a few days to get the job done. Because of my schedule, we did all of our communication through phone call, text messages, and pictures/videos. Mike was very easy to get a hold of and got back to me right away. We bought a property in Galt and wanted a wrought iron fence with a custom gate to fence off the main driveway. I contacted Mike who set up an appointment to see the project. From the first time I met him, I had a great feeling as he listened to my concept but also interjected a few ideas that he felt would make the project even better. After receiving a number of quotes, I went with Ferrum Iron Works as I felt Mike was the best person for the job. I must admit that the plans changed a number of times even before the project began, but Mike never blinked an eye and just wanted to make sure we received what we envisioned. The day before the project was to begin, he drove to the house on a Sunday evening just to review and confirm everyone was on the same page. The project was launched the next day and his crew arrived ready to work. The crew was very professional and polite and I was most impressed that each day, the area was cleaned and always left in a professional manner. Their level of attention to details and pride in their work to this day still amazes me. There were a few interruptions during the project due to weather and other issues, but communication was great whether it was via text or phone call. I have dealt with many contractors, and communication seemed to be a major issue. Again, not an issue with Mike. In the end, after multiple changes and a beautiful custom gate, we could not be happier with how the project turned out. Mike went above and beyond to offer us the latest "tech" options as far as gate opening devices as well as the installation of customs lighting with sensors in place that function without any effort from us. These guys are great. I used them for a repair this morning. Yep... I called in the morning, mike picked up the phone, and he was at my home in 30 mins. Brief background: another company built the gate. It's a beautiful gate, but after a month one of the anchors that kept it fastened to the stucco wall came loose, making it impossible to close without some serious effort. Mike at Ferrum iron works stopped by on his way to another job. He took a quick look at the gate and diagnosed the issue in about 5 mins. He went to his truck, and realized he didn't have the necessary parts so he ran down to the hardware store. End of story, I came home to a nicely repaired gate. No more slamming, lifting, pushing, or shoving. AND he was super easygoing with payment. I had to leave for work, and he said "just leave me a check or cash and I'll pick it up in a couple days." I wanted a security gate for my front patio entrance and really did not know where to start. I asked neighbors how they got there's and was not coming up with solid answers I could go on. I went to craigslist to see if I could find something and that is where I found Ferrum Iron Works. I checked out the craigslist ad, found him here on yelp, and decided to contact him to see what he could do for me. He was very accessible and reachable via phone & email. He promptly returned correspondence in a timely manner. The entire project was a success - Everything happened fluidly, conveniently, and he provided exactly what I was looking for. I was getting pretty discouraged about putting up a fence in front of my home. I had spoken with quite a few fence "guys" and pricing was all over the board. I called Mike thinking "if this guy is the same, I'm going to give up and let the vandals just take over" since I was only pinching my pennies and living on a Ramen diet in order to secure my home and get some peace after 4.5 yrs of vandalism on my home and car. Mike immediately answered the phone on a Friday evening, set up an appt to come out the very next day and stayed at my home, measuring and working numbers for the cost right in front of me. He gave me a number that was in line with one other guy, but his attitude, his approach, his responsiveness, his knowledge and his sincere effort to explain what he could do and how he could do it at the best price possible made all the difference. We had an iron fence put up around the yard in Aug 2017 and one of the pieces on the panel were bent and they welded it up anyway. I had the owner Mike come back at out when I got home. There were a few concerns about the fence that needed fixing one being the bent panel. He was very argumentative with me and then my husband. Told us he isn't a salesman. No he's not but he is a business owner who should stand behind his work! I have had conversations with him about coming back out to fix the panel and I hear every excuse from him. So to say the least panel is still bent and i will NEVER recommend him to anyone.. not even my worst enemy!! Please look around before calling this business!! We have been looking for a pedestrian gate for well over a year. We interviewed several contractors and received a couple of estimates. We decided to go with Mike Holton at Ferrum Iron Works and we are beyond happy with our decision. Mike is professional and responds promptly to email. He helped us figure out the type of gate that would fit our needs. We needed a gate that would fit an archway. He sent pictures, answered questions, and provided the much needed detail to help us make an informed decision. Mike gave us an estimate that included cost and time for producing our customized gate. The estimate was 3 weeks. We received a call from Mike at the 2 1/2 week point informing us that our gate was ready for install. He was out to the house in less than 3 days. The best part, his custom iron work is the best we've seen. Top notched! We are very meticulous about our home. Mike is a perfectionist when it comes to detail and his craftmanship is amazing. The staff member assisting him with the install had great work ethic and they worked well together on our project. We LOVE the final product. It exceeded our expectations. We love the style and color. Matches our home perfectly. Mike went above the call of duty. He installed a security door on the side entrance of our garage. Keep in mind that this was a stock door from Lowes. Here's the sweet part, he picked the door up for us and installed it. This is after Lowes told us that it was not possible to install this door on stucco. We forgot to buy locks for the gates. He offered to pick them up and he installed them at cost. Who does that? I was concerned about the color of the lock matching our new Pedestrian gate as the color was custom. We didn't know that Mike also has a designer's eye. The locks matched perfectly! We called Ferrum based on their many positive reviews. They fabricated a clean, modern steel fence to replace a crumbling old wooden fence between our driveway and patio. Mike and Jake showed up on time and did a terrific job of creating a custom-fit fence in a somewhat awkward spot, and the security-lock gate was just what we were looking for.
