We wanted a small pedestrian gate for our front porch. We approached four (count them: FOUR) companies to get quotes: One of them would only respond by email and would not give a specific quote even after I told them twice what I was looking for. They'd only give the price for EXACTLY what was on their website, not with any modifications. Since they do custom work, I would think they could give a more detailed estimate! The second company never returned a call or email for a quote. The third company sent someone out to see what we wanted, but never followed up with a quote. Finally, we reached out to Ornamental Iron through their website. I received a call THAT EVENING to set up an appointment for a quote. They showed up on time, and within a couple weeks (this was over the holidays) I had an emailed quote with pictures of our actual house (taken they day they came out) and 3 possible designs. For a person who has a hard time visualizing things, this was VERY helpful! I asked them to make an adjustment to the design, and right away I got an email back with EXACTLY what I wanted! I signed a contract for an iron gate addition to an existing fence I have in early October 2021; was told 6-12 weeks for install. The job was just finished today, late January 2022, 14 weeks. It is impossible to reach a live person by calling them; I tried every day of the week, at various times during the day. I left VMs and e-mails that finally got returned, about two weeks after they were left. We noticed that there were several three star reviews dating back to 2015. Some folks suggested that reviews with more stars were written to counter the negative comments. I don't know about that. But I do know that as a family, our first purchase from Ornamental Iron was in 2007, or so. We purchased an extensive wrought iron fence + gate on commercial property we own that required city permits. Ornamental Iron did a great job, and fourteen years later we have done no maintenance and the gate and fence looks great. in 1918/19, we had Ornamental Iron build a replacement fence for our second story deck on our home in Rancho Murieta. Heavy duty iron (not your box store stuff), interesting angles and powdered coated. Beautiful work, reasonably priced and I was able to install it myself. Now, in a new home in El Dorado Hills, our main entry door is recessed and not visible from the street. Porch pirate incidents in our neighborhood, we decided to have Ornamental Iron build us a gate with a grape vine motif to protect access to our front door and theft of packages. Yevette and Barry provided the customer service, drawings and contract with perfect, courteous service. The gate arrived about 5-6 weeks later, powdered coated with double cylinder lock which they keyed the same as our front door lock. Beautiful black powdered coating. Price in 2021 bucks? About $1,800. We love the gate! We love when neighbors stand on the sidewalk and ask who made it and how much it costs. So, there you go, a 2021 review, reflecting the current status of this company written by folks who are real, have no agenda, and have had not one but three experiences of dealing with a Ornamental Iron over a fourteen year period. We needed a couple of hand railings for two separate steps locations. We agreed on the drawings, they came out and installed the two railings, and everything looked exactly as the drawings. Unfortunately, we did not like the style of one of the railings and needed to modify it a bit (removing a lamb's tongue from one of the ends). Ornamental Iron came out, removed the railing that needed modification, completed the change, and reinstalled the railing. Everything came out exactly how we were hoping. They were very easy to work with. The price charged was very fair (and much lower than the other two bids I received). I do not recommend using these people. My experience with them has not been good. I had a large fence and two gates installed. I was given a quote which I signed, but when they started doing the work, they told me that I was quoted the wrong measurement. I owed them several thousand more. I also signed an approval drawing of the gates. The main gate was solar powered. They made and installed this gate to open from the wrong side. The person that they had setting up the gate didn't know what he was doing. It took months to get someone out here that knew how to get it to work correctly. They left a mess for me to clean up. Now the loop is not working. The part that opens the gate when leaving. It has been 3 months of frustration. I can't get them to return my calls. My experience with Ornamental Iron Outlet IS a NIGHTMARE. In November I ordered a gate. It took FIVE months for one side gate and one RV gate to be fabricated and installed. If what was installed is a reflection of five months of work, RUN. When I followed up on my project in January, I was told I would be contacted "once we receive the product and do a quality inspection". Apparently they have a different definition of quality than I do. The gates and posts had numerous large scratches across the gate, multiple gouges, sand marks and the edge along the bottom of the RV gate was chipped. Looks like it was dragged to my house. There was no powder coat between the sheet metal and bars and not enough welding points. I can put my hand between the two. Not to mention, welding splatter all over and large indentions and marks. I called them and after speaking to them wrote them a detailed email with 15 photos. I copied three people at Ornamental Iron. NO ONE replied or acknowledged my email. I asked for someone to come look at the gate. NOTHING. After I followed up with them a week later, they sent someone to touch up the gate with 10 cans of spray paint to a powder coated gate! He sanded the gate, sprayed it. Left sand marks and stripes on it. It was awful. I asked him to stop and leave after can 5. He even sprayed the concreate black. He covered nothing. TWO MONTHS later they sent someone to see the job and discuss fabricating a new gate because they agreed it was a horrible job. They finally removed the gate and posts and installed a classy chain-link fence. I asked for an approximate date and change work order, per their contract, with an expected time frame. I received NOTHING. SEVEN MONTHS later (June) I have NO gate and I can't tell you when a new one might be installed. I hated looking at the iron gate, but this chain-link fence takes the cake. It's tacky. After speaking to various employees it's obvious this place is a joke. Everyone blames someone else for the poor workmanship and customer service issues. They speak poorly of each other and told me that my job isn't the only one that has been refabricated. In fact, employees stated that the office hides these jobs from the owners and they have no clue how poorly things are run and the money they are losing. I want nothing to do with them. Low grade outlet-level workmanship. We paid almost $6k to this company to have a driveway and pedestrian gate installed in late Dec 2018 and had problems with the paint and the latch in Aug 2019, then the pedestrian lock not opening in Feb 2020 so that we could not get out of the backyard. From day 1, we had issues with this company. They had told us they would get us booked in and the gate installed right away but we didn't hear from them for months. Then when we kept calling, they would say that they had a waiting list! This was AFTER we signed a contract. It was tormenting dealing with their manager, Yvette, who had the worst attitude. They just want your money, then they don't care when they get our to service you. When I contacted them about the latch in August 2018, they came out, but they blamed the concrete settling, as if they shouldn't take that into consideration when they install these things! Now, I've contacted them letting them know that since COVID, we have had non-stop issues with the key lock and could not get our trash in and out. Their response was OK but your're out of your 1-year warranty so we're going to charge your $125 just to come out to look! Then after I said, this is a functional issue that they needed to replace, this was Yvette's cold response: "The gate was installed in December of 2018, we didn't come out for a service until Aug of 2019 which means the gate was functioning properly until this point. Again, since Aug 2019 now June 2020 the gate has been functioning properly....we cannot control what is happening underground." What does a door lock have to do with the concrete??? And you know what? It says a lot about a company when they are perfectly content that their gate functions for only a year after they install it! That says A LOT about their workmanship. STAY AWAY. their work is definitely outlet-standard, and their professionalism and customer care is subpar, to say the least. read more

Horrible customer service. Had to wait 2 weeks to get a price on some iron, after calling literally 16-20 times. They promised to call me back every time, but never did. They never returned one call. In addition to that, I was quoted $50 initially and after waiting 2 weeks and finally getting them to give me a price, they said it would be between $400- $800. I am on a timeline for a fundraising project and they completely wasted my time and delayed my project. I wasn't asking for it to be donated, I was willing to pay based off the original quote.
