I was waiting for a phone call from them to discuss her checkup, but I didn't expect one that said ok were all done vaccinating her just like you didn't want! They then apologized for "the mixup" like they gave me a latte instead of a frap. Unprofessional at the least, malpractice at the worst. This practice should be ashamed of having Dr Katherine Mason on staff.

My first visit at Modonna I had forgotten my phone, did not bring the paperwork that I needed the doctor to read from an ultrasound, I did not know the name of the medications my dog was taking... But in spite of all my craziness that morning they worked with me 100% and treated me kindly. I waved down a tech to let them know that I forgot my phone, so they worked out another method to get me registered They came out to the car to get me personally. The doctor asked me to go home get the medicines and send her all the information. Most doctors would just say let me see your dog and just take the money but she refused to see the dog without knowing the whole history and what medications. So she allowed me to go get the stuff and come back. She read through all five pages of medical records, and can you believe it... She called me personally and stated everything I wanted to hear. My dog was doing better than what those papers had stated. She wanted to continue to see her on a regular basis to check for the masses. I have taken Belle back again for a lump that popped up on her leg. She said no problem with that it's just a fatty tumor. You don't have to do anything...but if it's bothering her we can take it out. Most doctors would just say " she's going to have to have that removed because it's really interfering with her walking ability."That's what I am loving about Madonna. You can tell they're not in it for the money, They really care. And I might add that on visits to the vet prior to Madonna, my dog would shake like crazy and whine. I didn't know what they were doing to her they took her in a back room and I couldn't see. But I know when she came out from the Madonna check up she was so happy and they loved her there. They said "she is the sweetest Chihuahua, most of them bite and growl and bark but she was just licking us and wagging her tail." I feel so at peace knowing that my little Chihuahua 15 years old finally found someone who loves her. I wish I would have known about this place when she was first adopted.

None of the staff here are equipped to handle large dog breeds. They were scared of my 80 lb…read moremastiff mix and did not want to find any other solutions to giving his shots. Instead, they made us buy pills to calm him down and reschedule (Which couldn't be done until 3 weeks later). The Vet Tech did not build any rapport with him and just tried to stick the thermometer in a place he did not like. If you want your pet to actually be treated like a pet, and not just a job that needs to be accomplished, you will not go here.

Unfortunately, this veterinary clinic like many other others, doesn't offer any type of wellness plans to help with payments like perhaps a senior plan for not only senior owners, but maybe senior pets would be helpful. Another thing that would be helpful is if you're going to prescribe a medication that has to be compounded that you're able to to give resources on the spot to the owner, not just let the owner go off trying to find a compounding pharmacy. Going through chewy is quite difficult because of the Veterinary clinic will not confirm with Chewy over the phone, you have to send the original written prescription to chewy. Can you imagine in this day and age not taking phone calls or texts or emails or something instead of using the USPS, what a ridiculous practice. My poor senior dog needs this medication and is coughing constantly, and this is what this veterinarian gave me? Nothing to help temporarily, but of course wanting to do all kinds of tests after stating "his heart murmur is at a grade3 now, no longer a one". I literally paid what I would pay for myself a Patient First, with x-rays labs and a work up. My daughter recently talked to somebody in Prague, whose cat had open heart surgery for $100, so as you can say healthcare is not only getting bad for us. We're not gonna be able to afford it for our animals either especially with clinics like this one that tend to prey on people, or at least that's how you feel as a senior. Never mind, trying to recoup your money for your overly done, newly decorated office, why not come up with some economic health plans for people in their pets that makes things more affordable that to me would be much more helpful.. especially knowing that you're the one that helped her renovate the office!!!! I'm praying my little buddy can hold out until I get the medication to see if that works but I, again, will be seeking another veterinarian office. But fear not, Harford County is loaded with them!

Dr. Ruby quickly triaged and provided updates on my grandmothers dog, Bella. Dr. Kawla answered all of our questions, and gave us all of the time we needed to make decisions. Dr. Kalwa helped Bella cross the rainbow bridge, and I truly could not think of a better person to help families through a time like that. She was very empathetic, kind, and spoke with so much compassion and love. She is truly in her element as a veterinarian. I would not hesitate to take any of my animals here in case of an emergency.

Turns out that test was negative, immediately after and for the next 3 hours the staff did nothing for our puppy and continued to try and get us to authorize multiple unnecessary (expensive) test, rather than checking for the most common and least invasive test first. It was unreal how they 1st came in with an unknown diagnosis and $4000 worth of test and treatments. When we declined they kept going back and forth taking one test off at a time and continuing to get us to agree without ever doing anything to help our sick pet. This place is a money pit, and is only interested in what your credit limit is? PLEASE! If you can avoid this place do not take your animal there, this is the financial equivalent to being rapped, they work on your emotions and try to instill fear so you will authorize their charges. I will give praise to the only Doctor that gave a damn about the welfare of my pet her name was Dr Kawa. After a day in the hospital and a million test later it was determined by Dr Kawa the our puppy had Coccidia! Wow I've seen this diagnosed on Dr Pole in less than 10 minutes, why would they not start here 1st? Because they couldn't make any money off of our ignorance

The staff was so friendly and comforting, which made a stressful situation feel a little easier.The doctor and nurse took their time explaining everything and letting us know what to expect. Dr. Middlestead was very thorough with her exam and her explanation of what was going on with Amber. Unfortunately, we need to have an MRI done to narrow down the problem. We were able to get information on what would happen after an MRI, if the problem required surgery and in the meantime we were given prescriptions for Amber to keep her comfortable until we could decide on getting the MRI ($3 - 5K). We had also seen Dr. Mannix in neurology a few weeks prior, who suggested we get an orthopedic consultation before getting an MRI. I would highly recommend this practice. The waiting room was quite full too, which makes me believe a lot of people like them.

While hearing that your dog needs multiple procedures is overwhelming, Dr. J explained everything so clearly and patiently that we left feeling informed and reassured. She took the time to walk us through the diagnosis, why these procedures are necessary, what the surgical process will involve, and what recovery will look like. She answered every question thoughtfully and never made us feel rushed. What really stood out was her compassion and expertise. She clearly cares deeply about the animals she treats and understands how emotional these decisions can be for pet owners. Our Yorkie was treated with such kindness during the visit. Although facing surgery on both hind legs is scary, we feel confident knowing our dog will be in the hands of such a knowledgeable and caring surgeon. I'm incredibly grateful to Dr. J , Erin and the team at Chesapeake Veterinary Surgical Specialists and would highly recommend them to anyone whose pet needs specialized orthopedic care.
