Our cat, Spot, started having some issues yesterday - We were already worried about her, as she had suddenly lost a lot of weight - but every vet we called told us that they didn't have any open appointments until next month. One receptionist recommended an urgent care place in Cockeysville, which just happens to be right next to Valley View Farms and the Dutch Market (two of my favorite places). We made an appointment for 6:15pm - the last open appointment for the day. The lobby is clean. There's a television, and a small refrigerator with sodas and water. We sat there for maybe a half hour before the technician came for Spot, but it wasn't a hateful wait. Once they took her, though, they had her for about 3 hours. They suggested that we go have dinner, which we did. Turns out Spotty has the beginning stages of renal failure - news no one wants to hear. But the staff was wonderfully kind and empathetic. They spoke to us every step of the way when it came to which tests they suggested, and which tests we could afford. Unlike every other vet I've been to in the past couple of years, no one pressured us to choose more than we could afford, no one tried to upsell us. She had an exam, a urine test and a blood test. She was prescribed several medications, and we were told to bring her back for another urine analysis in a day or two, unless her symptoms got worse. As is common with my life, things went awry upon returning to our apartment, where the elevator was broken and I couldn't access my floor (as I am a wheelchair user). My boyfriend took Spot up to the apartment, gave her the pain meds, and then we went in search of a cheap motel for the night. Spot did not understand why she was poked and prodded all day and then abandoned that night, so she peed all over our bed in protest. Except that, when my boyfriend came to check on her this morning (I still couldn't get upstairs) he saw that big wet area on our bed and thought the worst - that her symptoms HAD gotten worse. So we took her back to Urgent Care where they did not charge us for another exam, as it had been less than 24 hours since Spot had been there. It was determined that the peeing and the cranky behavior was our princess just showing her displeasure at being left alone all night. No one made us feel like we were over reacting, or being overly cautious. Dr. Allen actually got down on the floor, to be on the same level as Spot, instead of insisting that she be put on the exam table. She was given some fluids to help with her kidney function, and we discovered that she LOVES the cat food they use as treats... since it's important that she eat, we ended up buying a small bag of prescription Purina for $56 - an astounding price for such a small bag, but again she is our princess. I left feeling like we have a pretty good handle on how to better care for Spot, and to make her decline as decent as possible. She could still be with us for several years. That was a relief to hear. I felt truly cared for at this clinic, which may seem like a strange thing to say about a pet ER, but the staff cared for all of us, not just Spot. WOULD RECOMMEND

The fastest and most efficient veterinary emergency care I've ever used. I was able to book an appt online ON A SUNDAY when most vet offices are closed. Was seen immediately upon arrival and our entire time there was an hour. Came home with RX too.

    A healthy kitten

Urgent Vet Care was very helpful. I needed someone to look into my kitten's sneezing, and all other vet offices were booked for weeks or even months. They saw me right on time, although the exam took longer than originally planned. However, I think that's to be expected with an ER, as a more urgent case may have come in. The vets and techs did a thorough exam and even called the next day to check on her. Also, the bill was slightly pricey ($175 for exam and blood test, no meds), but again, that's because it's Urgent Care and not a standard vet clinic with appointments. You go here as a last resort, not for primary care. And when you need them as a last resort, they're there for you. Also, I'd just ignore Teresa C's review. The staff was friendly and understanding. As soon as they brought up the staff member having a tattoo, a totally irrelevant detail, Teresa just sounded like a bog-standard "Karen" to me.

Good service, and I like the rather secluded, almost 'old fashioned' looking location in Cockeysville.

So easy to get an appointment. Don't sit at the ER, this is the place to come. Docs and Techa are great! Highly recommend.

Devastating experience. They made a mistake with my cat's cremation and lost his remains. Incredibly disheartening.

We brought my mom's cat in who had suddenly become very ill. The first thing the vet recommended was euthanasia, citing the cat's many health issues (heart failure, liver failure, kidney failure). Just a day prior the cat had been eating well and full of energy, even tried to climb a tree while I walked him on his leash. The vet went as far as to make us feel guilty for NOT euthanizing him, telling us it was their duty to advocate for the animal's interests. My mom opted to get him hydrated and stable and we brought him to our regular vet the following day. The vet acknowledged his health issues but suspected that his kidneys were at the root of everything. He flushed the cat's kidneys over several days and now he's back to his old self. Maybe a little thinner, but he's eating well, purring, seems to be very happy and comfortable. He does have to get subcutaneous fluids now, but many cats do and it doesn't affect his over all quality of life. In retrospect I don't think euthanasia was the right call on that day. If that is recommended to you by this vet, I would definitely get a second opinion. Unfortunately, people in an emergency situation will probably not have time to read this review. Sadly, our wonderful primary vet who got him stabilized has since passed away.

My daughter is there - we love our kitty -- what are you going to do? Ginger died the next day -- not 6 months to a year later. The Hospital Director said "sorry, no partial refunds -- it's company policy." So -- if you think this is a reasonable practice, okay -- but I don't. The workers there love animals, the corporate leadership stinks and is just another example of the scam economy we all live in now.

Their entire staff (at least the 10 or so I interacted with) are incredibly kind and compassionate. They let you stay with your animal, and don't rush you or pressure you. In addition to the kindness, the quality of care was excellent. Not sure how things are going to turn out for my boy Grady, but I know they would be much worse if we hadn't come in. Thank you to everyone there for showing the kind of compassion I know is very hard to sustain in this field.

Service:5 Stars Pricing: 2 Stars…read more This past weekend, I had a very positive experience at VEG that was overshadowed by what appears to have been sheer greed. We brought our goldendoodle to VEG because he cut his paw; the laceration split one of the digits on his paw, with superficial flesh exposure. It wasn't the worst wound in the world, but bleeding persisted and it was deep enough that we needed to determine whether stitches may be needed. Dr. Forte and the technicians (I'm so sorry I did not get their names) were just amazing. And Sarah, who did our intake, was uncommonly kind and attentive. I had absolutely zero complaints with the staff. My sole complaint was with the pricing of a pain medication. I understand that emergency treatment is not inexpensive; it's just the nature of the beast. Still, when the Dr. said the total came to $400 for the exam, cleansing/bandaging of the wound and medication, I was a bit surprised so asked for a rough breakdown. The culprit, in my view, was a common, canine, pain medication, with which I was familiar. The cost was $93 for 14 pills. I asked the doctor if we could purchase it elsewhere and she said we could. When I filled the prescription at a grocery store pharmacy, I was shocked and then angered by what I learned. The prescription, for which VEG was charging $93, was $9.99 at my local Giant pharmacy. I could not believe (and still do not) a reasonable justification would exist for such an excessive medication markup. Surely, I thought, this chain hospital has access to preferred/wholesale pricing. Parasitic was the word that came to mind. I saw a business exploiting people already experiencing stress and vulnerability as the result of a beloved pet's sickness or injury. Although I was very pleased with the service we received, I am just very disappointed and troubled by this issue, to say the least. Certainly, this is not unheard of in the society in which we live. But VEG ownership/management, I feel you do a great disservice to the excellent employees who, clearly, work so hard to represent you in the best and highest light. With respect, do better...

We were completely devastated and hysterically crying as we rushed him there. We called from the car to let them know we were on our way, and from the moment we walked through the doors, it was all hands on deck. The team's immediate response was incredible. They met us with urgency, kindness, and compassion at a time when we could barely think straight. I can't speak to the medical treatment VEG provides beyond this experience, but I can wholeheartedly speak to the compassion and professionalism they showed us. Every member of the staff treated Freddy with dignity and treated us with so much empathy during one of the hardest moments of our lives. Ok Yelp... I'm frustrated…read more We rushed our 9-month-old Cavapoo into VRA Pet Hospital at 8:45 AM after waking up to him bleeding from his rectum, after already having diarrhea and vomiting the day before. As pet parents, that's terrifying. It is now 12:37 PM and we are STILL sitting here waiting for a doctor to tell us what's wrong with our baby. The only explanation we kept getting? "Other emergencies came in." I understand emergencies happen... but what exactly qualifies as urgent if a puppy is bleeding, lethargic, and clearly in pain? Our dog has been laying around miserable, not himself at all, and we've had to repeatedly get up and ask when he'll be seen. Meanwhile, hearing laughing and casual conversations at the front desk while your pet is suffering is beyond aggravating. The lack of urgency, communication, and compassion in a moment like this is unacceptable. I hate that this has been our experience because when your pet is sick, time matters. Right now, I'm just left wondering... where are the better emergency animal hospitals in the DMV?! Here's a more detailed and pointed update for Yelp that leans harder into the front-desk failure while still separating it from the doctor's care: Update: I want to be fair because the doctor deserves recognition. Once we were finally seen, she was excellent -- thorough, compassionate, and took the time to explain everything clearly. She even apologized for the lack of communication, which says a lot about her professionalism. But my issue remains with the front desk staff, and honestly, that part of this experience was unacceptable. As first-time pet owners rushing into an emergency with our 9-month-old puppy bleeding, vomiting, and clearly in pain, we walked in terrified. No one at the front explained the ER process, triage, or what to realistically expect. Instead, we were left sitting there for hours in complete uncertainty, repeatedly having to get up and ask for updates ourselves. Every time we asked, it felt brushed off with the same generic "there were other emergencies" response -- with no timeline, no compassion, no reassurance. What made it worse was the atmosphere at the front desk. While we were panicking and watching our puppy lay there weak and uncomfortable, the front desk felt more like a social gathering than an emergency hospital. There was laughing, chatting, snacking, and carrying on while families sat in distress. That lack of urgency and empathy was hard to stomach. No one expects immediate service in an ER, but basic human compassion and communication should never be optional. When people bring their pets into an emergency hospital, they are bringing family. The front desk is the first point of contact, and that first interaction sets the tone. In our case, it made an already traumatic situation feel even more isolating and frustrating. The medical team may have done their job, but the front-end experience failed us completely.
