I will never know what I did to deserve having this amazing veterinarian Dr. Jocelyn Hawkins as my medical caregiver for my animals. It's crazy how I'll see her 8 times in one year and then not again for two years. And no matter when I call her, she always makes time for me. Her methods are flawless. Her knowledge is impeccable, and her skill level and cool headed nature is something that you would have to witness to be able to appreciate. Today I saw her for one of my feral cats Clementine, who was presenting with a UTI. I gave Clemmie a little gabapentin to chill her out. Once she hit the cold air, it was game on. When I got her inside the mobile med/van there was no fuss. They decided to give her a little sedative, but before the shot went in, she shot out like a rocket, and while that cat ran around the mobile climbing the walls Dr. Hawkins just started talking and visiting with me. We just ignored the cat ... and she stopped, and they picked her up and she was handled with such grace and love and care. It reminds me why I love this Vet so much. I know she's not taking new clients because she's maxed out. I dislike sitting in waiting rooms. My cat dislikes riding in cars. When I found a vet that does house calls, this seemed like a no - brainer. When Dr. Hawkins and Lee showed up at my house, I grabbed my shoes, my cat and checked out the "Vetmobile" (this is probably some sort of patent or copyright infringement but I can't resist using this very apt moniker.) I was amazed by what awaited inside: a fully stocked mobile veterinary clinic with super knowledgeable and helpful (for both humans and their familiars) staff. Dr. Hawkins is amazing. She and her staff are compassionate, knowledgeable, and funny; dedicating almost two full hours to my elderly cat's annual check-up/tune-up. The prices for health services are virtually identical to going to a "brick-and-mortar" vet clinic...and the fee charged for mileage is so worth it, as I don't have to fight my crazy cat into the carrier, it avoids the inevitable puke-pee-poo fest, the ensuing hissing, or fight to get him out of the carrier. Before, it was all very stressful...for me and my cat. So stressful, in fact, that he would have to be sedated and stay overnight at the 'regular' vet just to get examined...all of which cost more than the $40-some dollars, Harborside charges for coming to your house. No more animal carriers for me! Such a wonderful experience. Dr. Joceyln Hawkins and her assistant Lee came to our home to vaccinate and check our 2cats. Mild mannered , knowledgeable and easy going professionals made this visit a snap. My crazy cat even purred during her vaccinations! You absolutely MUST try this. Their vet-mobile is fully stocked so everything can be done on site. ( or inside of your home). No stress for anyone. The cost was LESS than bringing our animals out to a vet. Dr Hawkins and Lee are truly amazing people. We recently had them come over to our house because our 16 1/2 year old cat was sick and we could not take her to our regular vet. Our regular vet recommended Dr. Hawkins. Dr. Hawkins was able to see her immediately unfortunately her heart condition was too severe and we were not able to save her. It was the first time we had met Lee and Dr. Hawkins but after spending only 3 days with them we felt like we knew them forever. Their compassion and dedication to their job is amazing. When it was time to say goodbye to our Mitzi Dr. Hawkins made us feel at ease and we knew we were making the right decision. It was so calm and peaceful. The truck is amazing we were able to have X-rays done and she even had Andi come to the house with a portable ultra sound. Dr. Hawkins' prices were comparable to any vet you would go to in the area. Wish we met them under better circumstances. Thank you Dr Hawkins and Lee for giving us 3 extra days with Mitzi we can't thank you enough. Our dog, Beau, had stomach problems for a month. We went to three clinics, no one knew what it was. That was until we saw Harborside. Dr. Hawkins quickly realized that his breed is prone to pancreatitis. So now we know how to treat him if he flares! She also did dental cleaning and he had two rotted teeth. She is very knowledgeable and friendly. She's usually on the road so it can be hard to get ahold of, but my husband never has a problem. She calls back quickly once she knows your pet. My cat was having minor yet chronic issues that had become extremely frustrating for her and for me. My own vet wasn't doing anything to help--in a moment of desperation I thought to call Harborside. Dr. Hawkins is truly awesome. We just had our first check-up and vaccinations for our 3 cats and it was such a low stress, great experience. Much better than crating them and hauling to an office. Dr. Hawkins and her vet tech Lee are very friendly, professional, great at explaining what they are doing and answering questions. For 3 cats, vet visits can get pricey but we spent significantly less this time and I didn't feel like I was getting charged for unnecessary tests. Called them last minute and they came same day to care for my Dog Doug. The vet is first class and very professional and they come to your house what more could you ask for. My Dog Doug had a back injury and she figured out what the problem was fast got him on medication and now he is all better. She also took the time to TXT me to give me a better idea of when she would get to my house. Dr. Hawkins and her assistant Lee are great. My dog had a major issue that caused me to call Dr. Hawkins, who had seen him prior for check ups. Dr. Hawkins told me exactly what to do,and asked that I keep her informed. When it turned out my dog needed emergency surgery, she cleared it with her other appointments and made room for him to be taken care of immediately. He made a full recovery and is doing great. This is one heck of a team. Our 11 year old Jackahuahua has SERIOUS issues at even the most routine exam. We dread Vet visits. Not fun for us, and not fun for the dog. Foaming at the mouth, projectile #2s...you get the picture. Harborside rolled up in their 26 foot love wagon and went to work. They established rapport with our dog and veiled the bitter nature of their business with a few bellyrubs. As soon as the dog smelled the needles, drama looked like it was about to escalate to a vet visit pitch. No worries. The team worked fast and actually asked me about her tendencies instead of not listening to me and letting the dog shoot more...um...protest about the exam area, like previous vets. They sedated her, gave a thorough exam, and a few hours later, the dog was hustlin' for yogurt like nothing ever happened. Can't say enough about these guys. They listen to the pet owners. They made this pet owner feel like his Jackahuahua was in good hands the whole time. Most importantly, they manifest that sense of caring for animals that is nice to see in a good Veterinary team. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Hawkins. Yes, she is a very skilled doctor and it's nice not to have to transport my cats in the car to someplace foreign to them, but she is so much more than a veterinarian who makes house calls. When my 20-year-old cat Michael was suffering from arthritis, she recommended treatment that no other vet had suggested. When he had an abscessed tooth that needed to come out, I was very concerned that, given his age and heart problem, he wouldn't even survive the anesthesia. But Dr. Hawkins helped ease my anxiety and I watched while she worked quickly and professionally to take care of him, and when she woke him up I was so relieved. And though it was late in the day, she wouldn't leave until she was certain that Michael was out of danger. Several months later, when old age and his health issues finally caught up with him and I knew it was time to let go, Dr. Hawkins was so compassionate and went out of her way to help during what she knew was a difficult time for me. She came to my house late on a Saturday afternoon and took as much time as I needed. I couldn't have asked for a better end of life for my old friend, who died peacefully in my arms in his own home. Dr. Hawkins even personally delivered his ashes to me and had washed the blanket in which we had wrapped him. Little details like that mean a lot to me. I have since adopted a pair of cats from Pet Rescue of Maryland, and Dr. Hawkins is their doctor, too. Again, I cannot say enough about her or recommend her enough. Left review also on website- made appointment with Amanda on 3/7/18 for 4/10/18, took the day off from work, crated both cats, and vet never showed up. Left 2 messages, no return phone call to this day with any kind of explanation as to what happened. It's difficult to believe this has not happened to any of their other customers. Goes to show shining reviews online are not necessarily accurate at all about a service. Unprofessional, incredibly rude, really really bad. The first visit they were great and I was pleased with the care they showed my 5 cats, BUT the second visit never happened, despite my calling for an appointment and speaking with Amanda, I was promised a call back to schedule a visit and was ignored and not contacted. I recently relocated from the DC area to Baltimore with my cat who is 16 years and seven months. She managed to get through the move, but I was eager to have a baseline visit with a vet. And I was also used to receiving care from an excellent home-visit vet in Silver Spring! When Dr. Hawkins and her assistant Lee arrived exactly on time, I was happy. And then when I watched these health care pros in action, I became ecstatic because their care was superb. Dr Hawkins is the absolutely best vet I have ever had the very fortunate experience taking care of my cats. She is professional, knowledgable with a very kind soul and heart when taking care of the cats as well as taking care of their over protective and highly emotional owners. She not only does a fabulous job taking care of the animals but also the owners of those animals. She saved our cat from death and nursed him back to health. I decided to try this veterinarian based upon positive reviews on Yelp. No one answered the phone and I left a voicemail. The voicemail said my call would be returned within 24 hours and if I did not hear back within 24 hours it was because my voice was not clear (probably shouldn't put that in your voicemail message). Not sure how this is a good way to run a business if your customer has to wait to schedule an appointment. I received a voicemail from Whitney at Harborside the following morning at 11 am and immediately called back the number provided. A gentleman answered the phone and was confused on why I was calling. After I explained why I was calling he said he didn't have the schedule book and would have to call me back to schedule the appointment. I told him my cat was sick and he said appointments are scheduled 2 to 3 weeks in advance but they will try to work something out. I never heard back from anyone. Luckily I was able to schedule an appointment with another veterinarian company in town and got an appointment the same day. I would not recommend Harborside due to their poor customer service and for anyone who needs to get a quick appointment. read more
