There is a difference between an opinion and a factual review. As an older person, I've seen many dentists over the years and wanted to give my factual review on the care I received at this office. The staff and dentist are professional. They are not my friends. They are my dental support team for the care of my teeth. In this regard, they exceeded my expectations. I am recovering from 3 hours of the removal of an infection and a temporary crown this morning. This afternoon, I am not in pain and do not require pain reliever. That's a first. Looking at the price for the crown, it is consistent with what I was charged by my previous dentist before I moved into this area. This is not the first time I've seen negative reviews based on personalities but at the end of a long day, I want to know how good this dentist is, not if they can be buddy buddy with me. What I found was a 5 star dentist with excellent dental skills. The addage is that you get what you pay for but I see superior dental care within the realm of what is expected for dental care costs. I have an overbite. Invisalign has been recommended but i can see why. My front lower tooth is butting up against my tooth front teeth. This recommendation is one that is needed. The staff did not recommend any cosmetic dentistry. They recommended what was needed. It is very hard to wade through reviews and pick a dentist based on reviews, but I want to let this one stand as a factual and experiential review of an outstanding dentist who is professional. I would rather have an excellent dentist who maintains professionalism and excellence of dental care than be a chummy friend. However, as she drilled for my crown you see, she paused every few minutes to ask how I was feeling, and she asked if the pain control from the shot was working for me. She is sensitive to her patients, she crosses her t's and she dots her i's. She's officially my dentist and I know that with her and her staff, I'm in good hands. 5 stars given. read more

This review is extremely overdue! But I just remembered I forgot to do it. It's probably been a couple years. So I went here for years with my husband and son. Eventually I had a hairline crack on a tooth. I was told I needed a crown. Idiotically I got the crown thinking all was okay with my insurance. Apparently it wasn't and my insurance refused to pay stating the crown was unnecessary. I had to go to small claims court with my insurance company. Several months later I was told I needed another crown due to another hairline crack in a different tooth. Mind you these cost $800+. So, I requested that they get preapproval from my insurance. Insurance denied and stated crown not needed. Basically the same justification they used regarding the other tooth. I thought this seemed odd so I went to another dentist for second opinion. Second opinion stated no crown needed and insurance decision was accurate. Got tooth repaired for $8 (if remembering correctly but I know I was shocked at the massive cost difference) with insurance coverage by second opinion dentist. Now we are wondering if my husband ever really needed his crown, which our insurance claimed he didn't need, but this was a couple years before mine. Also wondering if my insurance was actually correct and telling the truth on my first crown. My poor real tooth was intentionally filed down to a nub just to put a crown on instead of doing a simple fix on the hairline crack as per the insurance company stated was required. Now the crown from this dentist office is sensitive and bothering me. But the simple repair from the other honest dentist doesn't have any problems at all. BTW after my dealings with this office my husband continued to go there and was eventually told he needed another crown on another tooth. He got a second opinion and his tooth was repaired without having to do a crown or spend an excessive amount of money. He finally changed dentist offices with me and we changed for our son too. Always, always get a second opinion when dealing with costly dental work from this office! Went to this office because it was closer to where I moved. Went in for a routine cleaning for first visit and ended up leaving with zero cleaning was told I needed deep cleaning over multi session and to see a specialist for a tooth that was crowned and root canal 20 yrs prior!!!! They want you to pay upfront for everything!!! I wanted to replace my 18 year old crown and they told me it wasn't going to be covered under insurance before even billing it to my insurance, then tried to get me to pay $1200 before installing the new crown. 4 visits. 1. Consultation. 2, 3, & 4, were for extensive teeth cleaning. Yeah... I know. The hygenist I give 5 stars ! The dentist came in and did a " make believe " 15 sec look. Never once intruduced herself. I learned this facility ONLY does teeth cleaning and cavities. No root canals. No crowns.... Get the picture ?? Do your homework. Search around. TERRIBLE! DO NOT GO HERE! Went here forever with Dr Hawkins till the Asian lady replaced him. Her diagnosis are always so far stretched, getting you to empty your pockets out more and more to them. They made me feel horrible telling me how much it would cost and that they couldn't save the tooth that I chipped it would need oral surgery and my mouth was too small to get x-rays they pretty much sent me out the door Crying. A month later I went to a different dentist in town he was able to take the x-rays and saved my chipped tooth no oral surgery needed an insurance covered most of it. read more

This office is part of a large network that encourages them to get every single dime out of you. Several times I have gotten a bill and after calling told "it was a mistake and don't pay it." Wonder how many people don't know to call and end up paying. They also told me more than once how much my Invisalign would be only to end up tacking on charges months after it's all finished. I scheduled an appointment to get my implants cleaned on 4/27/2023. When I arrived at the office I asked how much was the cleaning going to cost. I was told it would depend how they were going to code the procedure. The assistant took my info and I waited for a few minutes. The assistant came back and told me I would need to go to a specialist for the cleaning and I should go elsewhere for the cleaning. I asked why they couldn't tell me that when I called to make the appointment after all they advertise they do install implants at that office. The assistant just said she didn't know who I spoke with when I called. I would think they would do cleanings on the very thing they install. Now that I see the reviews I'm glad they didn't do the cleaning because it appears they are off the charts with their billing. read more

I moved to the area for a job, and after using a chained dental practice for the past 5 years, I decided to try Festus Family Dentistry based on their website and reviews on Facebook. I've made a couple visits by appointment, and both times I waited less than 10 mins. to be seen. The staff has been friendlier than I'm used to, and Dr. Phung performed some work on each visit. Dr. Phung has been courteous and on the first visit pinpointed some issues my previous office didn't catch. I asked a couple questions about my treatment, and she gave me succinct answers. Both visits involved a cleaning, and one also a scheduled filling. All work (and the bill) was painless. Overall, it's been a really great experience and easy transition! Agree with others reviews. This dentist diagnosed and quoted many, very expensive procedures and said that my wife needed them all. My wife was worried, plus not very good communication as to why and paid for he own initial consult with another reputable dentist (without his seeing or knowing of the previous dentist). My daughter has an abscess on her gum above a tooth. They tell me the tooth needs to come out. I say ok. They go to numb her. My daughter is afraid of needles, so she is upset. They tell me to come back two days later. We come back. It's a 30 minute drive each way, but whatever helps my daughter. My daughter gets upset again. She asks for me, I'm not allowed to be back with her. They refuse. When I could hear her asking for her mom they tell me they've got her calmed down. Later when I asked, they tell me she never asked for me. They tell me they are not in the business of traumatizing children and how could I as her mother want that. Like I'm asking them to traumatize her. I just asked if I could hold her hand through the numbing process. They basically told me even bringing her to them is wrong. She should be seen by a pediatric dentist. After all this they had referred me to a pediatric dentist- who I called and they told me point blank they couldn't help, call an oral surgeon. They may not have wanted to traumatize her but they did make her feel like she is a bad kid because she has a fear. As well as, calling her a liar. I'm trying to figure out what I did wrong here. Shaming parents for going to a "Family dentist". When I told them we wouldn't be back their reply was "we think that's best." I had planned for my whole family to start coming. I will take my business elsewhere and tell anyone I know not to go there. Meanwhile, my child still has an infected abscess. read more

I'll be transparent here, I didn't get past the front desk before I cancelled my appointment as a new patient so I cannot comment on how the rest of the staff conducts themselves. Front lady receptionist was nice, never met the doctor. I did however have the pleasure of meeting the hygienist, who made it clear she wasn't in the mood for answering questions or helping me understand their methods. She is the boss, she knows everything and you better not question her... in fact when I decided it wasn't best for this type of person to be working inside my mouth she pleasantly agreed. That should take care of any cancellation charge I'm sure they're getting ready to send over. Nevertheless they are the doctors and will do what they please despite patient concerns. No time for us commoners who just want to understand why things are done the way they are. And for those who think I leave bad reviews for dentists just be be difficult. If I could give less than one star I would. DO NOT GO HERE. They LIED to me telling me I needed 300 dollars worth of work done-and I found out by getting a second opinion from another dentist who cleaned the "stain" off for free. I had no other work done. I'm 36 and never had a cavity at all. They will offer cancer screenings that are not even needed and charge you out the butt. Your insurance won't pay for that so don't let them do it!! Hands down best dental office in town. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. They offered same day appointment and took care of my dental needs immediately so I didn't need to reschedule. They purposely make their prices confusing. They suggested a procedure and I asked how much and they told me a price. I told them to go ahead with the procedure while I was there and let's get it over with. After they did half my mouth (much to my surprise) they said that I would have to come back for the other half. I then proceeded to ask them if they wanted me to only pay half the fee since they only did half. They then informed me that the fee they told me was for only HALF of my mouth. Who the heck would only want half of their teeth cleaned? Also, TWICE they have sent me bills in the mail telling me that I owe them additional money even though both times they told me that I had "PAID IN FULL" before I left the office. I want to first state that I LOVE the office staff. Been going, with my kids, for about two years now and Truly had no issues with any of the ladies there. HOWEVER, the billing process is soooo unorganized. Every time we went it was just preventative cleanings which my insurance should have covered. But every time I would have to pay something. I pay it off in office and am told it's paid in full. Then get a bill months later for over $100.. The first couple times I'd pay it and be done. Then the next cleanings are due and I'm dealing with the same thing all over again. 3 kids and 1 adult and I'm paying over $200 every 6 months for routine cleanings when I have insurance?! So I question if we are in network and I'm told we are.. Looking through my itemized statements through my insurance and I'm being nickeled and dimed on all these Unnecessary things for the kids.. I was even charged for a "consultation" on invisiline for myself which I didn't even request! I've had nearly perfect, straight teeth my entire life and the dr. mentions that I should do a 4 month treatment of invisalign so they are absolutely perfect. I'm happy with my teeth, and I don't appreciate how sneaky they are with their charges. Unfortunately, I am forced to look elsewhere for my family. Hope they can figure out the problem. My bottom teeth are wearing away my top teeth in the back. According to my Dentist, my teeth would need to be moved with Invisalign before they could be crowned. I went to Festus Family Dentistry for a consultation. I was told that the Invisalign would correctly move my teeth and then once that was done they would crown my front teeth. I paid them $3500.00 and started the Invisalign After starting the Invisalign process, I rarely saw the Dentist. It was usually one of the girls in the office. A few months before I finished the Invisalign, the Dentist that I had been seeing there left. I continued with changing the trays with the girls in the office and as I neared the end of the process, they had me go to a different dentist at one of their other facilities. They needed to make impressions for a retainer which just about made me sick. The first two attempts were not good enough. During the third attempt they were spraying the stuff down my throat, gagging me. A few weeks after the impressions were made, they told me the impressions were not good enough and would have to be done again. By now I'm getting mad. I did not make an appointment for new impressions nor did they ever call me back to try and make an appointment. At this point I went back to my original dentist only to be told my teeth had not been moved enough to allow for crowns. He sent me to another specialist for a second opinion. She started asking me questions as to the preparation for Invisalign. She asked if they sanded between my teeth to allow for room. I told her they did not. Her opinion was also that my teeth had not moved enough. At this point I found out that Festus Family Dentistry is owned by Heartland Dental so I called Heartland Dental and complained. I was told my teeth were ready for crowns and then found out they weren't. By this time I had no faith in Festus Family Dentistry to continue the care on my teeth. I was also informed I could not get even a partial refund on the $3500 I had paid to them for something that did not work. My options were to pay more money, thousands of dollars, and go to a different specialist or transfer to another Dentist associated with Heartland. I did a consultation with a Heartland Dentist. He seemed very competent and I feel he was very honest with me. He agreed that my teeth had not moved enough but he also informed me that my teeth would probable not move enough correctly in order to have my front teeth crowned. Not only that, he also told me that my front teeth were in such bad shape that they may not be able to crown them. I have gone through the pain and hassle of Invisalign for almost a year only to find out that this would have never worked. I'm out $3500 for nothing. I would NOT recommend Festus Family Dentistry to anyone. Find another Dentist that will be honest with you and give you better care. read more

After receiving a free cleaning that went well, I decided to go back for a crown, in which my insurance didn't cover, that's fine. So I paid in two payments, $1380, paid in full. A few months later I receive a phone call saying hey you still owe $180 to us. I thought this was odd and then a few weeks later another lady called and said sorry I made a mistake disregard all that. Now fast forward 3 months I HAVE A COLLECTIONS ACCOUNT ON MY CREDIT REPORT, for $260 for tooth work I already paid for. Not to mention the other front tooth that was worked on looks like shit, and the crown they put in hurts everyday. Very very dissatisfied, I really liked the employees in there too. :( read more
