After hearing about this restaurant, my husband and I couldn't wait to try this place out; however, we were quickly disappointed with the service. we were left without service and drinks for 25 minutes. After inquiring about our drinks, it was apparent that they forgot about them and made an excuse why we still don't have any. The service, presentation and delivery from our server made it seem like we were at a fast food restaurant. The waitress slammed the drink down, held it by the rim of the glass, then sloshed the wine down. There was no appreciation for the wine we ordered or the level of service we expected. We ordered the arancini platter, which lacked taste and texture. We waited another 25 minutes for entrees, and the chicken cutlet over arugula was soggy, moist, and limp. The worst part about the whole evening was the wait for the bill. We waited another 30 minutes for the check even though we asked for it several times. I made reservations here for my birthday and wrote it in the reservation notes. Host was nowhere to be found and people were piling up at the door. We arrived about 5 minutes early and they told us they needed 5 minutes. We waited over 15 minutes to be seated while they sat several people who came in after us. We approached the host again who was chit chatting with another employee and two guests at the door for quite some time. It's like they enjoyed making a large party wait and were doing it on purpose. The service overall was bad and all the servers get annoyed at basic questions. Bread came 15 minutes after seating cold. The food was good but the pizza is brought out uncut and the pizza cutters don't even work. We received two different ones and could not cut the pizza without it falling apart. At the end of the dinner my mother asked for a candle on the dessert we ordered, annoyed they said they could see what they could do and ultimately didn't have the dessert nor the candle. After reading these reviews it sounds like they need to re train their hosts as that's the first impression for customers. read more

Let me start by saying we have been to Centro several times since it opened in November (4-5 times just to go out to eat, and we have hosted a couple of business dinners there), and until recently, it always has been an exceptional experience. And even though the last two times have not been such a good experience, the food is always phenomenal. The chef creates amazing dishes. He is also the owner. My family and I love Fiamma! This is the only place my dad will eat at. We try to go every Sunday. We also had my rehearsal dinner here last Friday and had a lot of out of town guests that are still raving about how amazing the food and service was. I would recommend having events here. There was more than enough food and everything was amazing. The meatballs are the best I've ever had. I have tried many dishes here and have not yet found anything less than perfect. The diavola and the Regina margarita pizzas are my favorite. The house salad and the Zuppa di mare are also great. read more

All in all, our overall experience here was disappointing. First the positive points: Nice decor and ambiance. Adaptive reuse of a building, so well done here. Bar man was kind and made a couple decent drinks, although cocktails are really not a focus here. Fairly small and limited selection of top shelf booze. We ordered wine with dinner and it was fine, although I do like my red wine slightly chilled and what we had was warm. Now the not so positive parts: Servers and support staff are not well trained and rough around the edges. Unprofessional. Recycled from many other spots in town. The FOOD is generally NOT GOOD. Pizza was the only bright spot and we ordered a lot of items as it was our first time visiting. Everything else we ate was too big, clunky and just not tasty. Brown food. Plates did not come out fresh or vibrant. Also the steak knives are so cheap, I was almost afraid to use them. I'm a huge skirt steak fan and just thinking about the one I had here makes me a little nauseous. Too bad, I really, really wanted to like this place and make it a regular part of our rotation. Had better food in their Gates location......but the location and ambiance there is challenged. I know how hard it is to start businesses, particularly restaurants, so I really feel bad leaving this review. Last night, Christina, Marta, Bernie and I had the worst dining experience since quite a long time - if ever. We earned our misfortune by choosing Fiamma Centro. The fair was not great but not even the issue. The NOISE was Two Vine squared...double squared. We not only could not converse, but even the waiter mis-heard our order and TWICE brought rare skirt steaks instead of medium rare. He only heard - "the rare" - part". The pizzas claim to fame was that it cooks at 1000 degrees in a few seconds. I asked for it to be 'crispy' and to cook it a bit longer - LIke Amore does. They said they couldn't as it was too difficult to manage. The pizza crust was like a wet Kleenex. The waiter's response was that most people like to "fold it" like "they" do in Europe. I told him I lived in Europe for many years and his guest "fold it" because they "had to" - or else it would all slide onto their laps. Who gives a damn how fast a pizza cooks? It doesn't make a pizza BETTER, it just makes it faster so they can fulfill demand for soggy pizzas faster. And at 14 to 19 bucks per (little) pie, I'd deliver them fast too. OK, it was tasty but Amore is much better and no bullshit. The wine? Christina turned it back. The second flight? Christina gave it to me. I don't like even good wine. I gave it to Bernie. Bernie will drink anything! Christina had to give her soggy overcooked pasta to Marta as Marta could not stomach her (second attempt) at cold rare meat. Christina then passed it ( the soggy cold steak) to Bernie. Bernie will also eat anything The Bill for this nauseating experience? Almost two hundred dollars and all I had was a Kleenex pizza! To make up for all this, the waiter tried his best. He brought us one (1) piece of some type (I'm guessing) of canole pie ...........and four (4) forks. We were all still so hungry we scarfed it down before we all realized - it too was not worth our time, palate and dignity. What dignity? At that point the "restaurant?" already taken that from us. I expressed in no uncertain terms, our disgust to the manager, Theresa. She thanked me for "sharing". Never again. Never again. Fiamma Centro....Mia NO! NO! As I write this, Christina is yelling at me to stop posting such nice compliments about the place and expose just how bad our experience was. But I prefer to remain positive. read more

I've had better pizza/pasta/italian food at several place around Rochester and probsbly wouldn't choose this again. Although, the place is new and well decorated in a modern style, I felt the food was just plain Italian that many other places do better. Very disappointing! The atmosphere is very nice and designed well, that being said, the acoustics in the upper dining area are awful! Loud noise bouncing everywhere. We ordered two appetizers, one was the grilled octopus and the other a seafood special. The octopus was so over cooked its was like eating a tire inner tube and was served with beans that clearly came right out of a can. The "special" appetizer was basically 4-C Bread Crumbs with some hot cheese and random shrimp that tasted like it was heated in a microwave. The bread for the table was yummy but a bit undercooked. The Good: Wife liked her salad but was quite overpriced The Bad: Trying to find a parking spot within reason was almost impossible! The seating upstairs was very tight. Our server clearly did not care about his job or getting a good tip. We tried to order drinks but they were out of most beers on tap. We ordered a margherita and bianca pizza, both were completely bland from the cheese to the crust. I usually don't say anything but we just had to this time. This restaurant is the reason why I downloaded The Yelp App. We asked multiple times for items we had ordered for a six headed table. By the time our last item arrived, our sever offered to box our food, knowing how late it was; and it wasn't even correct! How difficult is it to bring a house salad with no dressing?! I'm very sorry to say, our second attempt, after a faulty first attempt where they dropped our food on the floor and didn't offer to compensate us any way, was the last straw. For those of you look for a quick yes/no recommendation for a restaurant in the Rochester, NY area, this is a definite NO, I would give it 0 stars if I could. The staff and food made it an unpleasing experience. First, I ordered their chicken cutlet dish. It was way over cooked and over breaded. I requested that the dish be taken back and that I would just like more bread. I did not request the dish to be taken off the bill, I was just displeased with my ordered and wanted it taken away. Unfortunately, the waiter was very rude and brought the dish back to me in a to-go box and said, "sorry Chef said there is nothing wrong with it, you have to take it and it won't be taken off the bill" in a very passive-aggressive tone. He then stared yelling at my whole family about the bill, causing a scene that sent me in to a full on anxiety attack. I have never experienced one before but his vulgar behavior tipped me over the edge. I went downstairs to get away and deal with the anxiety attack in peace, when I see that the waiter came downstairs and was pointing and making fun of me with 2 other waitresses, how rude right?? My family requested to speak to a manager about the waiter's behavior but the owner/manager didn't care enough to talk to us so we went to him. The owner/manager, Guiseppi, decided to call my family a bunch of drunks and laughed at us and screamed "pay your bill and get the F*** out!" across the whole restaurant. This was my first time visiting Fiamma. The restaurant ambiance was great. Good decoration, good setup, acceptable noise level. The appetizer I ordered was very good, the caprese salad. For my main dish I ordered the skirt steak. If you end up going here don't order this dish. It tasted like venison, it smelled like venison, and it had the texture of venison. I do enjoy gamey meats however not when I order a steak at a nice Italian restaurant. I also shared a piece with my girlfriend. Her immediate reaction was that the meat was spoiled. She encouraged me to share my dissatisfaction with the waitress. When the waitress came to check on us I was honest and told her what I thought of my dish. She immediately told me that the meat is fresh and it won't be taken off the bill unless the manager also thought it tasted bad. That wasn't even my goal. I didn't request it to be taken off the bill. I just let her know it had a gamey flavor and tasted like venison. The whole situation was very off putting. On a different note, if you are looking to go to a dinner and get in and get out this is a good place. If you are looking to sit and enjoy an appetizer and a meal and a bottle of wine do not go here. Our meals were served immediately after the appetizer. On top of that, bus boys were constantly asking if we needed our meals wrapped to go. I think this place has a chance to be a good restaurant. Just stick to the pizza and avoid the skirt steak and don't expect a long nice evening. I wish the restaurant had handled everything a little differently. It seems like if you don't like what they put in front of you they are ready to attack you for sharing your opinion. I also read that in a couple other reviews when people shared they didn't enjoy their dish. I get that people can be jerks at restaurants and do whatever they can to get a free meal. I have eaten at this place several times. I also have had an opportunity to speak directly to the owner, Guiseppi, while we were waiting to be seated. I assure you that this place has authentic Italian food the way that it's prepared in this man's hometown. Guiseppi, the owner and chef, cooks from his heart. He is passionate about food and how he prepares each of his dishes from scratch. Italians are like that, food is everything to us. Go to Italy, taste the food then come back here. If you are not familiar with old world Italian cooking, then you might not enjoy all of his dishes. He is going to send you out the food ready to eat. No extra seasonings required, that's how a true chef cooks. Everything is tempered perfectly and flows together. Yes, Guiseppi can come across as unfriendly. English is not this man's first language. How well would you do if you were in a foreign country running a successful business? I own two pizzerias and I know how difficult it can be preparing everything from your head, from scratch. Guiseppi's food tastes like my grandmother's food did and my mom's still does. Get to know him, he really is a passionate and talented individual. Well then we get to dinner ordered rigatoni dinner asked for a salad said no side salads got bread asked for butter no butter available got my dinner very salty could not even eat asked for a side of sauce to make it edible possibly got charged 1.50 for the extra sauce, asked for a little birthday dessert for the birthday girl got charged 9 dollars. They were no assistance at all in separating checks even to the point one of the ladies figured out the her portion including tax and tip told girl to put that much on her card said can't do that need just amount of bill not with tip everything there tonight was a hassle and my food was terrible. Hi had heard good things about Fiamma so I was looking forward to dinner. It turned out to be a mixed bag. Highlights included very delicious pasta with cauliflower as well as delightful pumpkin cheesecake for dessert. I also had a nice glass of Orvieto, my favorite white wine. Unfortunately everything else was too salty. Salty butternut squash soup. Salty side of broccoli rabe. Salty burrata salad. It seems like those dishes would have tasted great if not for the salt stinging my tongue. For the most part I liked the ambience until Top 40s from 10 years ago started playing. Me and my husband went here on a Friday night for our 10 year wedding anniversary! It's a beautiful place but very load! Service was ok for not great since every other table had bread except ours! We ordered a pizza and veal scallopini and both were delivered to our table in less than 10 minutes! The veal was $24 dollars and consisted of 3 small (over cooked) cutlets and 3 little pieces of radicchio lettuce - no vegetable or starch ! Very disappointing! The pizza was ok but not great! I was impressed with the service, especially after having visited this location only two weeks after it opened. Our server was very knowledgeable and he said he worked at the Gates restaurant, too, so I am sure that was key. The pricing is fine, aligns pretty well for the upscale feel. The portions are generous. The downstairs is more of a casual bar-feel versus the dining room upstairs. When we were walking out downstairs I did notice it was unpleasantly smokey though-- not sure if they need better ventilation or someone mistakenly burned a dish. For this visit we had a calzone, a pizza, and a melted provolone appetizer-- but we have had several menu items before at Buffalo Rd. I can't tell if the menu is exactly the same as the Gates location or just very similar, but the food is just as good for sure. read more

NOT family friendly and rude about it. We've been here a few times with other couples and love the food. We made a reservation to go early (5pm) with our two kids and the grandparents on a Friday for my birthday. When we arrived and asked for a high chair the host said they didn't have them and my husband was surprised and said, "you don't? Why not?" the host replied, "because we don't" so rudely. We brushed it off and waited to be seated while he took phone calls and then we chose to go somewhere else. When I expressed how rude we felt he was, he was even more rude. There is nothing I love more than the smell of a meal prepared in Italy. I walked into this beautiful restaurant and was overwhelmed by the aroma of an authentic Italian kitchen. I felt like I was sitting at my favorite restaurant in Italy enjoying a meal with loved ones. The menu is vast and the food is AMAZING. Coming from a Sicilian/Italian family myself I usually roll my eyes when my friends ask to go out for Italian....boy did I have to eat my eye roll last night. Great, great food. Fun place with a very eclectic design. Probably the best Italian food in Rochester (and yes, I'm qualified to say that since I'm 100% of Italian extraction), but at a much lower price than others who consider themselves the best Italian restaurant in town. There are many unique options; portions are more than generous, and the fun thing to do was to order a few appetizers that were shared amongst our party of 7, and each ordered an entree that we shared also. There were plenty of boxes that came home with leftovers. If I have one criticism it was that, since we had made our reservation later in the evening (7:45 pm) I had hoped the big rush was over and we would have received better attention. But we had to ask for our water, and after waiting well over an hour, we sought out our server for water for the table and to take our orders....and possibly bring us some bread (which didn't come until well into our meals). All appetizers and entrees must be ordered at the same time so "the kitchen knows how to pace our dinner," but it was extremely slow, regardless. One cannot expect to go to Fiammo Centro to have an intimate, romantic dinner. It's just too noisy and busy...but it's lots of fun, and worth going to. My only reason for not giving Fiammo Centro a 5 star rating is because of the poor service and noise level. read more

"We don't season our food." - direct quote from our server after my husband said the pasta dish he ordered, Scialatielli con Vongola (fettuccine, white clam sauce) was bland. HUH? We previously ordered THREE other dishes and all of those were delicious and very flavorful. They were the greens and beans soup, meatball appetizer and Stella 8-point pizza. We were both baffled as to why a server would even think that's a normal thing to tell a customer. She then elaborated with "We don't use any salt or seasoning with our pasta dishes so that they are all natural." Good lord! Keeps getting worse!! My husband did not eat the pasta and clam dish. It was a full bowl, barely touched, and when she asked if we wanted to take it to go my husband said no since it did not taste good. She replied with "Well I can't take it off the bill because it was made." WHAT?! That doesn't even make any sense. WE HAD TO PAY FOR A DISH THAT WAS NOT EATEN. Overall, we had 75% of our food be good, 25% COMPLETELY TERRIBLE. But 100% of the experience with our server ruined the whole visit. We will not be returning. read more

My friend who hadn't eaten meat in 30+ years specifically asked our server if the Squash and Gorgonzola soup contained meat or was made with chicken stock. He assured us that it did not. However, two spoonfuls in she discovered that the soup was full of bacon or pancetta. And then found out that it was made with chicken stock after all. It was an honest mistake by the server and he was apologetic. The issue was with the truly apathetic attitude of Sean, the manager, who refused to take a $6 item off the bill as a courtesy and whose response was that he'd be sure that the server got in trouble. It was an unfortunate experience to begin with made even worse by the behavior of the manager. I strongly recommend against visiting this restaurant as they don't deserve your business or your hard earned money. read more

We were excited to have a birthday dinner at Fiama until it quickly dissolved. The server was following a script to describe the food, what it was and how it was prepared. He never engaged the table to find out that most of his audience were chefs and never took a breath to allow us in! Each dish that came was smothered in garlic...one ingredient he failed to mention! The rigatoni was baked dry and hard. When he was asked for some marinara sauce, the bill reflected a $5 charge for it! Not the money at issue here. The fact that they charged for it is! The server was told the dish was very dry. Really too bad that none of us would bother going back. Too many other fabulous places to choose from! Brought the whole family in and sat upstairs, which is a great atmosphere but very loud. The food was all very,very good and we had nothing left to take home. We shared one of the salads because they are huge, it was enough to feed six of us. We also ordered four of their pizzas and shared. All cooked perfectly, had exceptional flavor, and left us all wanting more. If you have been to their Gate's location then you know the quality of the food. This location is just more trendy, but it does not affect the quality of the operation, service, or food. read more
