Every popular Italian restaurant was packed at night. Thankfully Tony D's has a spot by the bar and it has good reviews. Service is excellent and bartender checks on you constantly . Portion is huge. Meatballs appetize is like baseball size. I usually can finish appetizer and a main course by myself but I can't this time. Chicken Parmesan can feed a small Italian village. The tomato sauce they have is ok to me, taste like something you can get from the store. Maybe not enough herd or garlic, just not enough depth. Such an amazing visit for my first time at Tony D's. First things first, it was super easy to make reservations. The restaurant checked in 24 hours prior to confirm. The parking was good-the lot was scraped well and easy to navigate, an added bonus for someone not used to traveling in snowy conditions. My party of 4 arrived and was immediately sat. The hostess checked out coats (great provision). Our waiter was really knowledgeable and friendly-the perfect balance of checking in without us feeling awkward. We ordered and our food arrived quickly. The chicken parm was great-well seasoned and I loved the basil sauce on top. There was pasta included which I could have easily done without-the chicken was the star of the meal. The space is great for intimate dinners as well as large groups. I attended a large group lunch (11 people) here a couple of weeks ago and the experience is still looming large in my mind. First off, we were all so pleasantly surprised at the bright interior space; I feel like I might have been here years ago right after they took over the space from Pomodoro's but the dining room area felt totally different. I loved the yellow pops of color in the furniture and the big wall of windows that looked out to the patio. The day we were in was too cold to sit outside, but I love the idea of doing that in the future! Second, our server was one of the best servers I've had a while. Friendly, smiley, very knowledgeable about all the specials and the rest of the menu, able to make recommendations, accommodating when folks needed small changes, really great. She was also super attentive and made us feel like we were her only table. Third, food. Wow. Our group ate a little of everything - there were pizzas, burgers, sandwiches, pasta dishes, a salmon salad, another big salad - everything was fresh, colorful, beautifully plated. My dish was a fresh-made pasta with a lentil ragu that was hearty and balanced - and large! I only ate half and took the rest home for another meal. Though our group did not order any adult beverages and we also skipped dessert, we were all in a great mood after such great food and service. I read some other reviews before coming in and I see what some are talking about and then again I don't agree with some of the bad reviews. Noise level give me a break. Why are people leaving 1 star reviews because it's loud? In my opinion this is a big bar with food not a restaurant with a bar if that makes sense. Yes it's medium level noise because they have an open kitchen and an area for live bands where they have many functions like wedding parties holiday parties and concerts. They have a tiki bar outside with couches and more tables too. So yea....its going to be pretty noisy. Not only that the ceiling are massive which creates a louder environment too. So enough with the 1 star reviews for noise. Other reviews about service....we sat at bar. The bar back was more attentive than the bartenders. We seriously ordered most stuff through him because he was "present". A regular came in and took the attention away from one of the girls for a bit. I ordered a margarita and they made it with well tequila without asking. We also noticed a man came up to the bar and ordered 4 drinks. We had a gift certificate. Our grandchildren and our son were visiting from DC. We waited 30+ minutes for our dinners. The most expensive item on the menu was served lukewarm. Our granddaughter's pizza took longer than our meals. We waited for her pizza. And we waited By then, our dinner was cold. The manager questioned me and then said she would have to talk to the kitchen to verify my story. Although she offered to comp our meal, we gave her the $200 gift card and asked for boxes. The pizza leftovers did not appear. We were offered a new pizza but decided to leave after tipping the waitress - who was very nice. I was embarrassed in front of my son and grandkids. Somehow we've not been to Tony D's since they relocated from Corn Hill. We decided to dine outside on their gorgeous patio. It is like being whisked away somewhere that is not in the city of Rochester. It was super inviting and relaxing. Definitely experience it if the weather is right. We started with some of the best meatballs I've had. Perfectly cooked with lovely sauce. We then tried the Margherita and Beesting pizzas. Both were very good, though the Beesting was a standout. The Burrata salad was also lovely. While the ambiance and food were spectacular, the service was lackluster. We had to ask multiple times for our server to come -- to order entrees after the meatball starter was eaten, missing items, drink refills, etc. The salad also came out about 7 minutes after the pizzas, which was strange. We are still giving it 5 stars, however, as we think the experience was limited to this server since other tables didn't have this experience. I actually went to Tony D's for dinner on Valentine's Day a year ago (late on my review, but they deserve). It was my first time and the restaurant had beautiful ambiance with low-light and candles. We were greeted, seated immediately and the front staff was great. I had a glass of champagne and ordered a Caesar salad to start. Let me tell you, this was the best Caesar I have ever had! Fresh, lots of parm how I like, and the bits of prosciutto added amazing flavor. Not to mention it was huge - more than enough for my date and I to share. I ordered the blackened grouper (a special at the time I think) and it was delicious. Flavorful and spicy (it was even better the next day for leftovers). My date had the breaded cod fish and potatoes, which he enjoyed. Overall this is a beautiful restaurant with comforting food and great dinner portions. It was not very busy, but as it got later, the place quickly filled up with a long waiting list, so I recommend trying to come a bit before dinner rush to beat the crowds and get a parking spot as it fills up quickly. We ordered the aranchini with prosciutto and pine nuts as our appetizer, and it was delcious. The prosciutto and pine nuts gave it such a rich and deep flavor, and they were spectacular. For the mains I ordered the bucatini, which was cherrywood bacon, rapini, chili crisp, pickled red onion, and parmigiano-reggiano. My friend ordered the pan roased jumbo shrimp, which was lemon, saffron, and leeks, over risotto verde. We loved them both. The risotto and bucatini were both cooked beautifully, and full of flavor. My fiancé and I came here for a late Valentines Day celebration and had a really nice time. A reservation that I thought was made for me, wasn't (not the restaurants fault) but the employees at the host stand were super helpful and we ended up sitting at an open spot at the bar. We started off with the calamari and artichoke appetizers which were pretty big portions and absolutely delicious. I LOVED the creamy pesto sauce with the calamari, it tasted so fresh and was different from any other place I've been to. The ricotta and sauces with the lightly fried artichokes was also very good. We actually also ordered the chicken Milanese and the combination of both together was even better. The Sicilian pizza, which is a pretty decent size (probably enough for 3-4 people) and was on the thicker/breadier side but the flavors were good. We really enjoyed the ambiance of this place too. They have high quality food but it's not some super quiet boring restaurant, there's good music playing, there's a lot of hustle and bustle and it made the environment more enjoyable and entertaining . I went to Tony D's for lunch by myself. The elegant environment was relaxing, and the perfect summer weather made the outdoor seating ideal. Friendly and attentive staff enhanced my dining experience. I was eager to try their Italian cuisine. I ordered the eggplant caponata with garlic bread as an appetizer, but it was cooked in an excessive amount of oil, making the plate overly greasy. For my main course, I selected the penne marinara and meatball, but was severely disappointed. The sauce lacked any notable flavors, including salt, and the massive meatball didn't even taste like a meatball. I have no idea what it was. The restaurant's prices don't match the quality of the food, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. How can you ruin a drink Tony Dee did I ordered a tango ray dry martini it didn't come dry if it was Tangarey gin, it was diluted with water. My wife ordered a cosmopolitan. She said it was the worst. We looked up at the bar. They had three young kids as bartenders probably don't know how to mix strings tried their bee sting pizza everybody raised about for me just so so everything was super expensive. Could go to Avino or half a dozen other places with better service and more variety of dishes for the same or lesser price oh well, won't be going back there but we gave it a shot. The restaurant was well designed in a former factory building and the crowd was well-dressed but not overly formal. I was with a large party and the hostess was able to accommodate us on short notice, we ordered a number of appetizers my favorites being the Calamari and Arancini.
