I recently attended a beginner's weaving class at Fiber Art in Odessa. The store is beautifully laid out with lots and lots of example work in many different techniques. My class was informative and fun. It began on a Sunday afternoon for three hours, where we learned how to load and work a small table top rigid heddle loom. The greatest part was that I was able to take the loom home until the following Sunday, which gave me the opportunity to practice with it at my convenience. Because of this I had the time to complete three small weaving projects. The following Sunday we had a review of how to load and work the loom and Jane, the teacher of the class and the owner of Fiber Art, helped me with some issues I was having with the edges of my weaving. She answered all our questions (there were three of us in the class). She also offered to have a private consultation with me if I opted to purchase a loom. I did not purchase the loom at that time but I may in the future. Fiber Art's yarn is beautiful and unique - the prices reflect that - it makes you want to go back and touch everything. I'm thinking about taking a knitting class because I never fully grasped the concept of knitting even though I've been crocheting since I was a little girl. She patiently answered every question I asked. We live in Pittsburgh area. As someone with no knowledge , she invited me to contact her should I wish to make purchases in the future. In an ideal world Fiber Art Inc. would have more variety of wool yarn and less novelty yarn. Of course, we are in Florida so that probably explains the increased emphasis on other fibers. The store offers a large variety of different yarns. They have synthetic or natural. They have super cheery and colorful or plain and dull. They've got very soft or very itchy. They also seem to have everything in between. The owner, Roz, is extremely helpful and friendly. She will sit with customers and show them how to knit certain projects if they are having a difficult time. Fiber Art Inc. is always offering specials. They also have an area to sit and relax and knit, right in house. Not a knitter yet? No problem, attend a class that takes place here. Yep, Fiber Art Inc. is a knitters paradise. Nothing I say will full describe how wonderful this place is. I have been taking wonderful felting classes with Artist Rachelle from Art Blooms and she suggested I come to this shop to get more wool roving The shop has a wide variety of wool roving as well as other yarns. The owner Rosalind is very helpful but I did not feel pushed to purchase at all.She clearly has a passion for this place and I appreciate that. The shop offers beautifully hand dyed ribbons and yarns that simply cannot be described here. In a room next to the shop, there is a room fool of looms of all sizes. Come to find out, I can buy a loom for a little over 100$ to sit on my lap in the car as the husband drives during our road trips. I'm in trouble. The shop offers many classes and I am sure to come over for more than one. The shop is a delight to the eyes, there's a surprise at every corner, and I cannot want to go back again. moved to Florida from up north and for two years looked for a quality yarn shop near by - not the craft store kind, but the kind that had good yarns - locally spun and/or dyed, interesting patterns, and helpful people like I was accustomed to in my old home town. Fiber Arts fills the bill and more - they are knowledgeable, helpful, inventory is amazing, teaching on site, comfortable setting, beautiful displays, and my new favorite weekly excursion. Jane is welcoming and talented - has a real eye for what works. Sara is incredible - and amazing teacher with more tricks up her sleeve than I have ever seen before - and I've been knitting a long time.....and she has blocked half a dozen projects I have finished and made them swoon worthy......looking for a new knitting/crochet/weaving home?
