I just found out that Fidelity is now holding received funds for 16 business days. They told me it was only until the funds are fully collected due to fraud prevention... Fidelity rep told me that once my transfered cash is settled (3-4 days), I will be able to roll the money from my IRA to my Roth. It has been 5 days after I transferred the money Monday morning, and the transfer was settle on Wednesday. However, I still cannot move the money to my Roth on Friday. They told me that it will take 3 weeks before they unlock my money because of their new fraud prevention rule. How does transferring money from one Fidelity account to another Fidelity account impact your fraud prevention policy? You have my money and I am the sole owner of both accounts? We spent a lot of time here trying to setting up a self 401K for my husband. The person helping us clearly had no clue what that was but finally with the help of their retirement team on the phone got it done. We find out about 2 weeks later the actual application was never submitted. There is no solo 401 K. God knows how many people's retirements this woman has screwed up. read more

I have been battling with fidelity for the past 3 weeks to get $ tranferred from my fidelity account to my bank account. my background is in computer systems analysis for many years. and the Fidelity " technology " is the worst fragmented mashup I've ever seen. the "mobile app" is a bastardization of the website code. it looks nice but the coding to make it all work isn't there. don't waste your time. I wasted mine trying to use "digital assistant" and chat. finally used the website but even there I made a name change one day and received confirmatio. the next day the account shows my old name. for a company that has revenue at $40B last year, their technology is abysmal. I have no complaints about the reps in the phone. they are not the problem; it is the IT and management at fault for inadequate information being made available to them make your complaints known to the management. I plan on doing just that. read more

I have spent the past month trying to have fidelity release my retirement account into a rollover account with a different financial institution. At the same time, I was working to consolidate multiple retirement accounts from different sources into one. By far, Fidelity made this the most difficult, inefficient, and worrisome transaction. I could not initiate a direct rollover to any account outside of fidelity. In releasing the check, to be sent to me but naming the institution where it would be deposited, I could not have the account number of the rollover account on the check. It took days to get someone on the phone and the process was painstakingly piece milled to me through a series of holds and bad information. I managed to release all of the other accounts feeling confident that the money would be transferred securely and accurately. Unfortunately, I have low confidence that Fidelity will get this right after the series of poorly designed processes that I had to navigate. I would not recommend Fidelity for any financial services considering how the products and services they offer are convoluted, not easy to use, and seem insufficient to address security and accuracy of deposits and rollovers. read more

Was looking to invest several hundred thousands with Fidelity. Spoke with Nathan Lugo who was going to set up account and arrange everything. After several weeks, multiple visits to different Fidelity Branches (Pasadena, Ca. & Tempe Az.), filled out multiple forms, paperwork notarized, when calling Fidelity to make a deposit (Large), I am told the account is NOT set up. Spoke with multiple Fidelity employee's and have been told numerous times to expect a call back today. After more than 3 weeks, today I called the Century City Manager (Samuel Schwartz) who apologized and really had nothing to say. I will/would NOT ever recommend Fidelity Investments to anybody. Who would do such an outrageous transfer and pay DOUBLE TAXES ON AFTER TAX MONIES?????? They did not even give me the courtesy to return my call to REVERSE their mistake. What an incompetent REP. Should not be talking to customers on the phone. Should have known and made a comment to Only take the funds from the Traditional Ira account to pay Minimum Distribution owed to the taxable year. I visited the offices after a lack luster performance of my investments, I found the offices very impressive, 0.1% stuff, but a bit like the hunger games, lack of diversity, completely disconnected for my reality etc, I closed my account and invested in real estate. Much happier now. read more

What a dud of an experience. I already have a 403b and 457b accounts with Fidelity, but decided to open a IRA with them just now. could have done it at home myself, but I figured since I am horrible with investment and retirement planning, I would go in to the branch in person and maybe there would be someone who can walk me through the basics and even - dare I hope? - offer some advice on my current portfolio? Nope. I walked in, the office was spacious and empty, and somehow I still had to stand at the counter while the person - i don't even know his name - gave me his ipad to open the account. Never even offered me a more private space to do it. I asked some general questions regarding retirement planning, but basically was given to understand that unless you have $100,000 to play with, there is no one available to you in person - but hey! here's a bunch of phone numbers and maybe you can just call. This does not bode well. As someone who makes a comfortable 6-figure income in the very beginning of her career, I guess I was hoping that the nebulous "they" at Fidelity would care more to help you with customer services. Nope. Maybe I just got bad luck with having an uninterested worker as the first person I had to interact with, but this was a thoroughly disappointing experience. Will have to look into elsewhere to invest in the future. read more

After two years of not having contact with the Fidelity Century City branch, I received an invitation for a meeting to have an annual portfolio review as part of my Complimentary Fidelity Premium Service. I was naïve enough to think that this is great customer service, but unfortunately, I soon discovered that at this branch, portfolio review is simply an approach to pitch and sell Fidelity's paid advisory services. The first advisor I met told me that my portfolio has to be completely rebalanced, never providing me with any specific reasons for such a step. Instead, I received an email thanking me for "...considering a Portfolio Advisory Services managed account...". I never considered having this service nor was it ever discussed with me - this seems to qualify as deceptive practices. The second advisor was even more direct (likely under instruction from his bosses) and refused to answer any questions as to the basics of portfolio building. He spent more time pitching paid services and explaining "buy low/sell high" strategy. Yes, seriously! To complete my excellent branch experience, when I requested the branch manager Mr. Jeff Rao to provide his email address, he flatly refused explaining that he has no time to read customers' emails. No doubt he has time to read the emails of the customers using the paid services. I was never able to get from Mr. Rao an answer to my question - why was I invited to the offices and what was supposed to be the outcome of my "portfolio review". I never thought that I would have a feeling that instead of dealing with a respected financial institution, I went to a used car dealership. My portfolio consultant is SO wonderful!! I feel she truly cares about me and my overall well-being as well as my finances. She has been my consultant for 6 years; she possesses wonderful follow through, advisory knowledge and skill and is very people friendly. As a result of my confidence in her, I transferred all my stock to this branch of Fidelity from another Century City investment firm. My consultant has never put undo pressure on me to have Fidelity manage my accounts. She did present me with options for having Fidelity or another financial management company take over my accounts. However, I have chosen to manage my own accounts/money. She and other Fidelity customer service reps assist me knowledgeably whenever I need help. That all being said, in my opinion, nothing replaces an individual's personal knowledge and willingness to become involved with their own money, regardless of whether one chooses to have your money actively managed by someone else. Likewise, there is no company in existence in today's world that has 100% perfect customer service. However, from my 7 years with Fidelity in Century City and as a company, they offer wonderful customer service. Fidelity has many management tools on their web site which give information about specific products and ways to become knowledgeable about and involved in your investments. The web site does require a commitment to learning how to use it as well as the different ways stocks/bonds are evaluated for specific investment purposes. However, their on line support personnel have always been very helpful and accommodating with questions about the use of their online information and trading systems. Overall, I highly recommend Fidelity in Century City. If you get an investment consultant you do not like, ask for a change. They are most accommodating with such requests. I have had an account with Fidelity Investments for 30 years. One day an account manager called and said I asked an elementary question about a covered call option trade, which I did not ask. As a result I was informed I would require an advisor or successor trustee to continue my account. I did not wish this service. Consequently, I was informed that it would be necessary for my account with them to be closed within 30 days. From my experience I would not open an account with this company unless you wish to employ a financial advisor. read more

Finally got through, and three days ago the person took my information to have someone call me back to set an appt for day after Thanksgiving. Not only has there never been a return call, but I tried calling yesterday and three times yesterday. I was routed to the main number and put on at least a 15 minute hold each time. previous reviews seem to be impressed with how nice everyone is. well, for me, I appreciate nice but when it comes to investing my money, I'm looking for knowledgeable and efficient. in these categories they get a big 0 !! went in person, wrote a large check with specific instructions as to how it should be invested into my 401k, was assured by nick that he understood how to handle this but as it turns out, he never did it. there it sat in cash reserves and when I found out I spoke to chris duffy, the branch manager who, rather than apologizing and admitting the mistake, perhaps acknowledging that his staff made an error, he basically accused me of not making the request saying, "if we don't have it on a recorded phone call we can't be certain it happened". do not trust this office - they are incompetent and know nothing about customer service when it comes to dealing with a problem. This Company wants to keep your investments. That is why perhaps they have 2.5 trillion dollars. 6 weeks ago I submitted all the documents required for obtaining my funds after a hold was placed on them requiring a QDRO. Teh QDRO was completed and signed by all parties and the court. When I called today because I need to get some of my funds in a current emergency I was told that the calculations for my ex wifes part came out as a negative and they could not proceed with distributions to me as my QDRO has now been rejected. They cannot just say that she has no share of the funds and release my money. The account is frozen. However 3 weeks ago they did accept a rollover to the account of 52,000 dollars from a university of California account. Fidelity will not let me have any of that money either as the account is frozen. Looks like a one way freeze. They do assure me though that my money is there. read more
