This clinic is top notch - I've lived with my dog and other animals I have fostered in several…read morecities in CA, AZ, WA, OR, NV. I've seen it all and this clinic has surprised me at every turn. I brought my elderly dog in as an emergency patient days after relocating to the area with no prior appointments. They were able to fit us in immediately with Dr. Almendinger - and what an incredible doctor she is! Dr. Almendinger showed great compassion for my dog during the visit and gave me consistent positive regard throughout, answering all my questions and listening carefully to my concerns. I left with necessary prescriptions in hand, detailed instructions and a thoughtful follow-up care plan including booking follow up appointments. The clinic was upfront about all tests, procedures and costs and open to my ideas on treatment plan. Costs were the same or lower than what I've experienced at other local Seattle clinics (we have also lived in green lake and Fremont). Dr. Almendinger also went through my pet's records and identified some recurring themes that no other vet has picked up on. On request, she gave me a list of tests to consider to rule out certain conditions and make an improved treatment plan that she thought would improve my dog's overall health and quality of life in her golden years. The front desk staff was proactive about getting us scheduled for follow ups and provided me a copy of Dr. Almendinger's notes via email on request. There was plenty of parking out front and the waiting room was comfortable with areas to take pets who are shy or skittish to wait. I saw a few folks with cats doing this. They had a coffee station too which is a nice touch, though I didn't use it in any of my visits. Overall, I can honestly say my experiences here (after a handful of visits) have all been exceptional. This is a magical place with wonderful people. I highly recommend bringing your pets here for care even if you have to drive further to get here, this is truly the best clinic in Seattle.

Just to preface, I understand that it is difficult to run a business and that people are truly…read moreinvested in the care of our pets. That being said I strongly believe that if you work with pets, you should have customer service practices and protocols in place. I was recommended to have my cats teeth cleaned and saved up for the procedure which ultimately ended up costing $1,478.29 for one of my cats that needed two teeth removed. On the day of my cat who needed teeth removed (this was her first experience with anesthesia and her first surgery) had surgery performed at 3:42PM (the office closes at 6PM). They additionally administered ketamine and buprenorphine at 5PM and had me pick her up at 5:30PM (the office closes at 6PM). She initially meowed at me at the clinic, and as soon as I got her home, she completely crashed. I tried calling the clinic multiple times and they were at that point closed. She was completely unresponsive to sound and touch, so unconscious that she urinated herself, and was shallow breathing with eyes open and tongue out. The discharge instructions I was given had one line about monitoring for vomiting, diarrhea or labored breathing, but this was not discussed with me during the discharge, and could be enhanced with a more detailed handout about things to look for during recover. I was in shock, traumatized and spent the entire night crying because I thought my cat was dying. And luckily I had a vet friend who let me know to look for a heart rate of 140-160 beats per minute and for open mouth ragged breathing. These things could easily have been in their own handout and reviewed before discharge so it would have been clearer to me what to look for and when to go to the emergency vet. They then left a generic message the next day asking how she was, and I had left messages about her state the night before that felt like they had not been listened to. So I returned their call and shared about my experience, so they were aware that I was deeply upset and traumatized by the situation. When I went in for a follow up visit, it felt like the vet tech knew that I was upset and yet they kept me in the public waiting area instead of bringing me into a room to ask me how I was feeling. So I started crying in the public waiting area, and was left there while they went back to get Dr. Dittrich. I want to uplift that Missy (front desk) was kind enough to see me crying and offer me tissues and a waiting room to sit in, but that was not offered to me by anyone else on staff that I interacted with. I then told Dr. Dittrich that I was not happy with the service, and she said she would connect with her business partner to discuss options. Two days later Dr. Dittrich called me and let me know they reviewed the chart and felt like there was nothing wrong, even though they had said to me they would not send animals home in that condition. And when I said "I did think you were going to bring back options from your conversation with your business partner", she became very hostile and yelled at me "What do you want? What are you asking for? You want the whole thing for free?" At which point, I replied "I truly thought the whole point of you checking with your business partner and reaching out to me would be to offer me a list of options, as discussed, of customer grievance plans." It could be the next annual visit for free, it could be 25% off of the services, it could be so many things, but to have no customer grievance protocol in place, and to not have a budget to accommodates for grievances, even something nice like a standard practice of a urn for people whose pets pass, or a small percentage off of a future visit, seems easy and standard. I will also acknowledge that they now have a practice manager Emily, who I felt like listened to my feedback. But when it comes to running a business, it seems simple and standard to have handouts to send families home with about when to reach out to emergency services, it seems straightforward to have customer grievance policies in place, it seems easy to train staff on when you see someone crying to offer them a room if one is available, and when I called Jason answered and asked me with a bit of hostility where I was calling from, and I was like "my house?" It just feels like the customer service has a lot of room for improvement, and I am hopeful for future customers that Emily has the support needed to create systems and protocols to make sure other clients are not treated with the same level of hostility that I encountered. And totally minor, they no longer offer nail clipping or sanitary trims as a part of wellness checks which is a bummer.

We had our kitten Ozzy spayed by Dr. Marie Andresen and it was an epic and successful procedure for Ozzy. She recovered really well and didn't have any issues at all. She was provided with a medical t-shirt for cats that helped her not chew and scratch around her incision, plus the proper treatment in case of pain thereafter. Truth be told, I've wavered as to whether this should be a 2-star or 3-star review but if I had written a review after my August interaction, it would have been for 1-star, so I suppose either is an improvement. August We were headed out of town on a Friday morning to Sunday afternoon trip. I had arranged to drop my two cats off around 9:30, so I was more than a bit frustrated when I arrived at City Cat to find the door locked and no sign of Mike. I called his cell phone. Voice mail. Not wanting to simply sit in my car with two distressed cats locked in their cardboard pet carriers, I returned home and tried the number again. Nothing. So I waited. 10:00 10:15 10:30 I was in a panic. The initial drop off time was set so there would be lots of time to be where we needed to be on time. But, by 11:00 we still hadn't heard from Mike and we were in the terrible position of either leaving our cats behind - and having our diabetic cat, L, not received her insulin for 48 hours - or have our entire trip disrupted because we couldn't leave the house on time. We opted for the former, making sure the cats had food, water and clean litter boxes and hoping that going without insulin for two days wouldn't be too detrimental to L's health. About the time we settled into the flow of traffic on I-5 my phone rang and it was Mike, apologizing with some lame excuse about his phone being forwarded to his landline so he wasn't getting his voice mail while he was out of the shop. In a curt tone I told Mike we were already on our way and that because he wasn't at the shop when he said he would be, we were stuck leaving the cats at home. He made a half-hearted apology and the call ended. I was furious and resolved to write a 1-star review and post it here. I never wrote that review and although there are certainly alternatives for other cat boarding businesses in NE Seattle, when the need arose recently to once again board the cats, I decided to give Mike another chance. Maybe the incident in August had just been an anomaly. I called him a few days before Christmas. "Hi Mike, this is David S. I need to make an appointment to bring my cats..." I never got a chance to complete the sentence before he interrupted me. "I don't have any room over Christmas." Uh, who said anything about Christmas? I explained that I actually needed to board the cats starting on New Year's Day. Turns out, Mike had plenty of room. We confirmed dates and hung up. Unfortunately, the exact moment that the line disconnected I realized that I hadn't told Mike about L's diabetes and need for twice daily insulin. I called him back immediately and got his voicemail. "Hi Mike, this is David S. again. We just hung up and I realized that I forgot to mention to you that one of our cats, L, has diabetes and requires twice daily insulin shots. I assume that's not a problem as you've probably had plenty of cats stay with you that required medical care. But if it is a problem, just give me a call back to discuss. If I don't hear from you I'll assume everything is fine." No call back - everything must be fine. At the agreed upon day and time I arrived at City Cat, cats, food, insulin and needles in tow. As I unpacked the cat carriers I picked up L and told Mike that this was the diabetic cat and here is her insulin. He looked at me dumbfounded. "I don't know anything about a diabetic cat." Me: "Umm, well I left you a voicemail about it, immediately after we set up the appointment to bring the cats here." Mike: "Oh, well I don't listen to my voicemails. I just delete them. Just the other day in fact I deleted eight without ever listening to them." I kid you not. That is exactly what he said to me! Me (stunned): "Is this going to be a problem? I've got an early morning plane to catch and I need to know right now if I need to scramble for some alternative options." Mike: "Well, no. I guess I can give her the insulin. Just give me your vet's name and number in case there's a problem." Oy! I felt tremendous guilt leaving my cats behind and wondered whether I'd actually see L alive again. What a lousy way to start a vacation. Happily the cats seemed to do fine - although they were certainly happy to come home. I was a bit chagrined when I arrived back at City Cat and found the medical instructions hanging on the wrong cat's crate, but Mike assured me that the right cat had been receiving her insulin. I guess I'll take his word for it. What choice do I have?
