The winery

If you want to know what it's like to hang out with your cool neighbor and drink their wine then Field Fifteen is your destination. This young family owned winery is just a few years old and working with mostly rose' at this point. They also offered a delightful Frose and paired everything with house made BBQ and the owner's own Cabernet BBQ sauce. Field Fifteen is just getting started but they are definitely one to watch.

Had business in the Placerville area so looked for a Harvest Host so we could try out new camper. Got there late in day but with enough time to do a tasting and lucked out with bbq plate too! Wines are very good and we both enjoyed a refreshing Frosé. Owner, Kenyon, is very nice and we had great chat with wine steward, James. Our dogs were welcomed, even by Diesel, the dog on property. We'll return when back in the area!

We split the steak, carrots, and fingerling potatoes with an amazing sauce! There was enough for us to split it into two. The wine was amazing from local wineries, the waitress was sweet and friendly and had grear service. Everyone was dressed super nice & when we asked for recommendations of wine with our dinner, they had a great pairing. We wish we could've checked outside, but there was a wedding going on. We will definitely be back to check out the outside area and I definitely recommend!!

So if you like those Raiders of the Lost Ark vibes, then you would like sitting next to the mine for sure. It's roped off but you can hear the water dripping and it is naturally cool. The structure was originally built as a hotel in 1853 and has been well preserved. I ordered their Smith Flat House salad ($10) and the Jambalaya Risotto ($34) which consisted of Cajun-marinated prawns, lobster meat, Andouille sausage, grilled sweet corn with saffron chicken risotto. Definitely had a bit of a kick to it, the risotto was done well. My pet peeve is mushy risotto, it needs to have a slight bite to it which this one had thankfully. Love the fact that this place serves up local wines -- I couldn't recall the wine I had and they do not have their wine menu on their website. If you have the opportunity to visit, I'd recommend a glass of red from Starfield (winery up the road).

We had booked another location we thought we loved, but it didn't feel right. For the second night, I chose Davies Family Inn purely by chance--drawn in by the idea of what they offered. We drove in completely unaware that we were about to discover what would become our gemstone, our true getaway. The property is deeply tranquil and serene. Evenings are spent around fire pits with a glass of wine, surrounded by silence except for the sounds of nature. We've baked apple pies from their orchard, enjoyed endless peaceful nights under the stars, and--by the generous allowance of the property owners--explored the land on their ATV simply to wander and take it all in. What truly sets this place apart is the people. Linda and her husband Jim make you feel like family. When I call and say I need a getaway, they always find a way--even during blackout dates. That kind of care is rare and meaningful. Trisha, who maintains the property, is phenomenal, and the grounds are always immaculate. This is a very, very gorgeous retreat tucked right in the middle of Placerville, yet it feels worlds away. Part of me wants to keep it a secret--but it deserves to be known. If you're looking for peace, warmth, and a place that truly stays with you, this is it.

Linda was so great and easy to reach if we had any questions or concerns, and was very hands on during the reception. She was extremely helpful. The bartender Beka was so sweet and did an amazing job. Everyone absolutely loved her! The cabins were very clean and so cozy. Having everything all in one place for the wedding was so much less stress and Shadow Ridge Ranch was the best place to do it. I can't thank them enough for making our day so beautiful, special and fun. The reception was a BLAST and we danced the night away. The way that the property is set up was perfect! It is a weekend that my husband and I will remember forever. Thank you all again SO much!!

I've grown up here and love that the venue included one of the area's most historic homes. So I knew as soon as I became engaged, that I wanted to get married here. The ceremony site is simply gorgeous with its canopy of walnut trees and ivy covered arch; we only added a bit of decor to the start of the aisle as it was perfect as is. Booking a year in advance, didn't think we would have weather issues in late May but we ended up having to deal with a rainstorm. Kurt and Nina were awesome and let us set up tents last minute the Friday before so that they were ready to go on the big day. They even provided a pop-up tent of their own to cover our DJ. Even though we had to limit our decor to the minimal covered areas, our wedding was still the perfect day we had always dreamed of. Brookshire was reasonably priced (especially as it comes with all tables and chairs), spacious with a great layout that easily flows from ceremony to reception, naturally gorgeous (i.e. minimal decor needed and numerous photo ops), and close to town to avoid travel fees, yet still feels private and remote. Kurt and Nina were so sweet and easy to work with, you could tell by their enthusiasm that day that they truly love what they do. They were so helpful and also very prompt in returning our security deposit. Thank you for being a part of our forever!

Do NOT get married here. The venue is very pretty, but organizationally, they are a complete mess…read more We were trapped into it with lofty promises and a deposit of half the whole cost. There was no communication between staff, poor communication between the management and us as clients, employees were unsure of their own roles and our provided "day of coordinator" had zero idea how to coordinate a wedding and I as the bride had to keep the day moving and tell her what to do next. (Even though we came up with a typical schedule together.) The management didn't know the size of the tables available at this location, and at our rehearsal the day before our wedding, we were told that we had to redo our whole seating chart because the tables were actually smaller than we knew. The food was brought up all the way from Sacramento in a U-haul truck, which was visible to the ceremony site during the ceremony. Half of our guests got sick afterwards. The food menus they gave to us to select catering from did not reflect what was actually available either. The chef took our selections down with a sticky note, and they lost that sticky note. They had to call us to confirm our choices. Choices we had to change AGAIN because the menu changed again. I even had to fight to have a decorated cake, and even then it ended up being extremely minimalist by design. More than once our wedding detail consultation dates had to be changed in favor of weddings that were much larger than our smaller event. They basically left our event planning to the very last minute. 2 months in advance. We spent $500 on liquor and sodas for people who didn't care for our pre-fabricated signature drinks (old fashioned's and French 75's) but the venue provided bartender never even touched those supplies. Instead, he opened up all of our red wine bottles at once, giving no thought for guest demand. We had to throw out half of the untouched wine bottles at the end of the night. Our guests had ZERO idea that there were more drink options. Please save yourselves and get married somewhere else. We are haunted by this experience.

I had a few ideas of how I wanted the night to go and Sue helped to make that possible at her gorgeous log cabin venue. I had quite a few things to set up and Sue allowed us in early to take care of the setup so we weren't rushing and stressed right before the event. The holiday decor was transformed from Christmas trees to classy and elegant whites and golds for my event colors/theme. Everything was beautiful and the tri-tip buffet was delicious!! I would love to have another event at the Sierra Banquet Center! Thank you Sue (and your team) for all that you did to make my dads celebration so memorable!

My personal favorite was the Artichoke Florentine because the mint pesto is so refreshing for the summer. I also appreciate the low alcohol options, as it allows me to join in the fun despite my alcohol sensitivity. The vineyards and gardens are spectacular as usual; I highly recommend the main lake trail/loop for the shade it offers during the hot summer. The turtle pond is secluded and pleasant, but it's further and lacks shade, so I recommend bringing a parasol.

The ambiance, the guided experience, and the overall vibe were exactly what I had hoped for. Our waitress was exceptional--knowledgeable, incredibly friendly, and she made us feel right at home. We truly couldn't have started his birthday any better. As for the food, I was a bit bummed that there wasn't a lunch or more robust meal offering. It slightly diminished the overall poshness of the experience, as we would have loved something beyond charcuterie while enjoying the wine. That said, we still had a wonderful time--and even became members--so that says a lot. I do hope they expand their food options in the future. If you're looking for a great atmosphere and delicious wine, I would absolutely recommend checking them out.
