Went to celebrate my best friend's big 50th. They had live music and a warm inviting outside gathering. Service was excellent and food was delicious pizza and wine. My favorite was the margarita so yummy with a drizzle of pesto to make the flavors pop. The wine bottles were all decorated artistically of Davell's family. Her son painted the labels. The owner Davell was very friendly and informative of the different wines she offered. They also have a very cute friendly dog, welcoming all the guests. Relaxing day or night. As most posts begin- We wanted so badly to love this place. Ambiance amazing, music great (Shane Q), and service dreadful! To start, we called on the phone first to make a reservation for our anniversary, we announced we had a Groupon to use, and we were never informed at the time of booking that it could not be used during their pizza and music nights. We arrive, lady setting us for our table (We also mention Groupon, another opportunity for them to alarm us, still nothing.) We get to our table, explain the Groupon to the server in which she declined the Groupon. We asked for a little more time to decide what we would order instead, server NEVER comes back. Takes us 20 mins to flag down another server who also never comes back after our wine is dropped off. Once our original server comes back around about an hour later after our glasses are empty, she is stumbling on her words (clearly has been drinking) and makes an offer for the Groupon that didn't even make sense lol. I want soooo bad to be able to go back again but damn I'm disappointed. As a server myself this is unacceptable. Even for our anniversary we weren't expecting anything special just honest and attentive service. The experience left such a bad taste in our mouth. She mentioned being short staffed but the vibe at a winery to begin with is slow paced and never an excuse to just outright avoid your tables entirely. Stopped by here for tasting. Venue is cute, with art displays by the owner that he painted. Wine was not the best. They all tasted vinegary and not the best. They don't provide a dumping bucket so you just need to walk around the venue and find a place dump. Service was ok as well. read more

My wife and I have now found our new favorite winery, Chateau Davell. What struck us when we first went in was the incredible artwork painted by the owner, Erik, that gave it a warm ambiance. Then seeing the same paintings on the labels, with each telling a story about one of his family members enhanced the experience. Then as the icing to the cake, the wines were really good, making us subscribe to their wine club. It just got better as they have a food menu to die for. We just needed a small appetizer so we got the figs with a burrata cheese (?) topped with hot honey and balsamic vinegar. It was delightful. read more

I have come to Apple hill ranch for years and this place tops every experience thus far! The owner and creator of the art on the bottling of the wine-Erik is a great human being. Very comfortable space and delicious wine tasting, he creates all the art for the bottling and I enjoyed every wine I tasted here. But the best part of it all was Kenobi, his pug/Chihuahua mix. I've come here to Chateau Davell a number of times for wine, and have never been disappointed! But recently I went with a friend for a Friday night concert offering with dinner options provided. We ordered the fig and spicy honey pizza with salads. Boy was the pizza a huge disappointment! The fig slices were very few and far between and the honey drizzle was also very scant. What was left was a whole lot of crust, which was more like a cracker than a pizza crust...tasteless, hard and brittle. It didn't help that the crust was burnt on the bottom. We were both so disappointed. We won't be going back for food. read more

Another Nevada Day weekend wine stop. Located across the freeway from Apple Hill, this is a great wine stop. They create small lot wines with old-world methods and modern style. Winemaker/Owner Eric Hays makes unfiltered wines. The labels have paintings of the winemaker's family. During covid reservations are required. There's limited seating inside, but with so much great weather, I recommend saving a table outside on the huge lawn. There you can sip your wine and enjoy some of the fun artwork. The parking lot is large and paved. There's playground equipment if you are tasting with children. read more

If you're in the Apple Hill area and want a calm, laid back place to win(e)d down and get away from the crowds, Chateau Davell is where you'll want to be. $10 wine tasting. 5 wines are offered during the tastings, though last time when we brought a big group they were generous and offered 7! We had a great time, as they also allowed us to bring our meat and cheese platter and other picnic items to enjoy along with their wines. Prior to COVID, they paired their wines with cheese themselves during their indoor tastings, which was quite a fun experience. I've never felt rushed and there's never been a large crowd when we've come, making this the perfect place to truly just enjoy your company and your tastings. The artwork on the bottles is painted by the owner, if I remember correctly. I love the popular Apple Hill wineries, but I will be coming back to Chateau Davell for a much more relaxed experience. read more

What a wonderful way to wind down from a fun filled day at apple hill. Thanks to Yelp I saw the reviews abc was curious to check the Chateau Davell winery. This is definitely off the beaten path but thank goodness for navigation as this winery was tucked away. Luckily we made reservations for the last tasting. There were two other tables being occupied. The owner paced the wines well and we cake to learn that each bottle was named after a family member. The drawings on the bottles appeared to be portraits of the family member. I think we had at least 8 different wines and the owner was kind enough to waive my fee since my friend bought a bottle. We decided to sit around and I ordered the cider which was just the right amount of sweet. When we ordered the owner told us we were okay to hang out while he closed out. I liked the atmosphere and peacefulness of the environment. Would definitely love to come back. read more

We were meeting some friends at Fenton Herriott Vineyards, but they got caught up in some business and were going to be delayed. After enjoying a delicious meal, we still had about an hour to kill and after some Yelping, we found Chateau Davell Boutique Winery. First off, I have to say that their Winery has such a breathtaking view of the tree line and distant mountains. Definitely take a moment to stop and appreciate that. Their wine tasting runs daily from 11am to 5pm and is $10. This includes a small cheese tasting paired with each wine. If you decide to purchase a bottle (or bottles), then your tasting fee will be refunded. Good to know! My room mate and I had a pleasant experience. Again, I'm very new to these wine tastings and we were told to try the wine without the cheese first. Then we were to eat the cheese and try the wine to see how it changed or enhanced the flavor. We were astonished just how a small bite of cheese could drastically change the flavor of the wine. My room mate and I both have a sweet tooth and the last wine of the tasting was a dessert wine paired with their house made toffee. The dessert wine (Ste. Maribelle Dessert Wine) was deliciously sweet and paired with the toffee was simply perfection! We decided to buy a bottle of that for $24, waving our tasting fees. For me being naive to the life of wine, with every tasting I get to experience, I'm learning more about what goes into making and producing such great wine. Their staff was very knowledgable and helpful, especially to a newbie like myself. We both had a fun and wonderful experience here at Chateau Davell, highly recommend it. read more

Very pleasant wine tasting experience at this establishment that is almost hidden from view. A friend found it by accident when leaving a nearby thrift store. A little follow-up investigation proved to be worthy of the time spent on a side track distraction. It almost feels like the tasting room is in a treehouse. There's also an overflow outdoors bar tasting area. This cozy, charming tasting room offers tastings with tasty bits of cheese pairing for $5. The fee is waived if you purchase a bottle. The wines there are rather nice, and its highly likely that you'll discover one or more to your tastes. The tops of their wine barrels have artworks painted on them. When the wine is bottled, the barrel head art is hung on the wall; the art is reproduced on the bottle labels. Its a tastefully quirky stop on the tasting trail. For me, it was a definite highlight. I will enjoy bringing friends here to experience their offerings. I'm told that they have plans to relocate to larger facilities to have more specs. However, what they have now is so charming that I am regretful that it will no longer as it is. read more

Had a great first experience here, but the second visit was incredibly disappointing, as the only person getting service was the bride talking about upcoming wedding plans. I had really hyped the place up to my bf, telling him about the artwork on the bottle labels and the pairings and the enthusiasm of their employee on my previous visit. But this time, we were hardly engaged and just left standing there with empty glasses for several minutes at a time. It was so disappointing; mostly because I was really looking forward to the stop. The taste of wine is such a personal experience, I can imagine that it's hard to please everyone. This was not my cup of tea and it was the only place on our trip we didn't buy a bottle or two to take home with us. Especially given some of what we saw on our trip to the area, I do appreciate their inclusive signage and adhering to masks and social distancing. We came in on a Sunday afternoon without a reservation, so I appreciate their willingness to accommodate our lack of planning. Generally the staff was friendly, but we asked to check out a couple times before we left cash on the table for our tastings and moved along. The labels of their wines are paintings done by the owner and tell a really sweet story about the family and their children as they grow. The property is lovely, like most of the wineries in the area, but I felt there were much better views at other wineries we had visited. The wine was...not good. Generally they had a bitter, alcohol taste with very little complexity or flavor beyond that. Smelling it made my nose burn and overall we were finishing them without really enjoying it. The Zinfandel was the only wine that we felt was okay, but still weren't motivated to use our tasting fee to purchase a bottle rather than just heading to the next tasting. They have lots of really positive reviews, but in our case this just wasn't a place we would want to come back to. read more

My fiancé and I came here a few weeks ago with our dog. We enjoyed sitting outside on the covered patio. There are a few tables that have mist spraying above which is so nice especially on a day when it is over 90 degrees. The grounds are very pretty and it was not busy at all. Perfect for us to take our time tasting and to have a glass of wine and just relax. The wine was fabulous! I especially liked the Chardonnay (lightly sweet and refreshing) the Premier Cru (incredibly smooth), and the Green Man which was wonderfully unique. The Rosé on tap was my absolute favorite! I would have taken bottles of that home if I could. The owner was friendly, and attentive. The tasting was reasonably priced and we got a discount on our wines because we bought multiple bottles. What a lovely place! My daughter, grandson and I came here because it showed to be kid friendly and that it most definitely was. We originally came here to relax and enjoy a glass of wine however ended up staying longer. We ended up having some Herbivore pizza and homemade strawberry ice cream. Both were absolutely amazing. Everyone here is so friendly. Another great highlight of our evening was listening to a young man from Elk Grove by the name of Triton Taylor who played the guitar and sang. I have had the opportunity to work with Chateau Davell Winery on several occasions, and they have gone above and beyond my hopes and expectations for both a winery and business. I first had the chance to work with them a couple years back when I was planning a large scale event for a nonprofit that I was working for. Chateau Davell went above and beyond and tabled the event, which was after working hours. Additionally, many wineries will limit their selection due to the cost, but Emily had every wine available for tasting. From an event planning side, everything was taken care for me. I did not have to worry about any management or planning logistics. So, this is critical in an event planning situation. Additionally, Chateau Davell hosted our joint family reunion and our little girl's baby shower celebration. We were really wanting the event to be a celebration and more of a bohemian reception. It turned out amazing!!! Our friends and family were able to come together on a Sunday to wine taste, enjoy the foothills, and celebrate. If you are wanting to plan an event, there are multiple options available for renting, wine, and food. Both Eric and Emily are incredibly artistic so if you need assistance with your event they are there every step of the way. Lastly, the wine and the winery is so fun and enjoyable. If you are looking for wines that are natural and farming practices that are focused on the health of the grapes and your body without all the additives and chemicals. Chateau Davell is the place. I love the cute patio out here, it looks like a great night or day hang out spot. First thing first i was captured with the art on the bottles. I love how the wine maker used art to make their wines more special. I like how the art is the family, one picture was the wife, son, and daughter. I like how he create the art himself. I feel like this winery is very family oriented and family comes first. I was able to meet the wine maker and it was a pleasure. Some memorable food tasting was the Wheat cracker with garlic roasted red bellpepper, it was delicious i couldn't stop myself from sampling a minimum of 3x. the wheat cracker with the garlic roasted bell pepper was paired well with the sangiovese. Another memorable sweet i had was the toffee nut, and the dessert wine. The toffee was so crunchy and fresh and i was in sweets heaven. I like how this place is very compact inside a little shack/store. I like how they had the original paintings hanged up on the wall. It was great meeting the wife as well, and getting served from her. Overall i enjoyed my time visiting this cute little family oriented winery, with some good food samples. We stopped here after a recommendation from another vineyard. So glad we did. We met Emily who is the owner. She paired her wine with different cheeses. She was very knowledgeable and helpful. We left with 2 bottles, a Syrah and Grenache blend (had her pic on it) and a Cab Franc. We also bought some cheese to have with our wine. The place has a rustic chic vibe. We enjoyed the wine and tasting. Highly recommend. Update: In Oct 2018 we came to their new tasting room which is right off the hwy. their new place is so great. It has become our favorite winery in Eldorado County. Our favorite wines are the Cuvée, the GSM and the Super Tucson. All their wines are great so you can't go wrong. read more

I love Chateau Davell. I have since the first time I tasted in their quaint relaxing tasting room. Eric's wine making style is spot on. His artwork is unique and is displayed in the tasting room and the foundation of the labels. I really enjoy limited production wineries. I know that with each vintage, there is care in the quality production of wine that meets the condition and style of that years harvests. You can expect some variance and nuances from vintages year to year and each as fabulous as the last. The entire family is involved in the business and production, including the kids. They are ever present at the tasting room (hence, the play equipment for them and their guests). Some seem surprised to have such as a tasting room. I think it shows who they are and how they encompass their lives with their love of making wine. If this were a "bar" then, yes, I would agree that it would be odd . It's an experience and a destination. The recent release of 2013 Verlyn Grenache is fabulous now, and will be more so as it ages. So pleased to see them acquire some grenache fruit again after a few years of absence. I have a case (minus a few bottles) in my closet. This is a must stop when in Camino. Make sure this is early on your wine stop list ! read more

We had a really great experience at this tiny little family run winery. The owner was pouring the wine and gave a lot of information on how they got started, how the labels are all done by her husband based on family members. The wine is all organic and done in very small production. The place has a very sweet vibe. There is a deck with a puzzle set up on a table and chairs and tables through out. It is inviting and cozy. Makes you want to take a seat and stay a while. I was not super impressed with the wine itself but the environment and the service and information all created a really personal intimate experience that I could not help but purchase a bottle to contribute to the business and family. So glad we stopped here on our wine tasting adventure, we definitely saved the best for last. This organic, family owned winery is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. The wines were delicious, and he also paired fresh fruit, cheeses and rich chocolate with the different wines. Each wine has a painting he created of one of his family members. There is a 5 dollar tasting fee or complimentary tasting with the purchase of a bottle. You should definitely buy a bottle and support this great place.
