Came here for the last taste of the day. We went here because we heard that they had a great white selection. A person in our group was a big white drinker. The location is awesome. Tin City is really amazing. So much surrounding this place. The inside felt very much like being at home but with a school vibe to do the lockers where they store there wine in. Isabelle took care of us and she was absolutely amazing. Always willing to recommend options for us. She was beyond friendly. Despite being close to closing time she didn't rush us in anyway. She even shared some food with my 3.5 year old as she was needing a little something. We ended up sharing ghost stories for a bit with her so that was really fun. What I liked is that she actually sat down with us and talked about the wine. Like I said I felt at home. The whites were very good. Unique varietials were offered. My friend who liked the whites was very pleased. The reds were also solid. I ended up with a bottle of franc for home and I joined the wine club. Isabelle was a huge reason we joined the club. Let me start by saying that I'm not a wine enthusiast and wine is not my 21+ beverage of choice but after visiting Field Recordings, I've discovered my new favorite winery. Their tasting room can be found on the top story of a two-story building in Tin City, Paso Robles. Since they do not serve food, they allow their customers to bring in outside food and there's a fabulous Italian restaurant called Etto Pasta Bar conveniently located downstairs. According to their website, Winemaker Andrew Jones "strives for unique wines loaded with personality and a one-of-a-kind experience." If that was his goal, I'd commend him on a mission well accomplished. This tasting room is not pretentious in any way and I appreciated the modern design and comfortable furniture. My wife reserved a tasting and I sampled most of her wines and there wasn't a single one I wouldn't try again. Isabelle greeted us and we learned she had only been there around a month and she was already so knowledgeable about the wines they offered. She made us all feel comfortable and provided above-and-beyond service despite having other customers and no additional help. I informed her I was not into wine and so she introduced me to their collection of sparkling apple wines including the Malus and Alta Gaviota which were fruity and refreshing. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and we left with two bottles. We'll def be back to Field Recordings the next time we visit Paso Robles! read more

Great spot with some cool character. We were here during a VERY hot weekend. But this was a nice place to chill and escape some of the heat. We had a beer and a wine flight. Both were great. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. There were only two of them during Labor Day weekend and they were hustling! Running from table to table and taking care of everyone. I was impressed. My type of winery! Hipster, school aesthetics type of vibe. The outdoor patio area definitely makes me feel like I'm back in high school. Such a cool place. All the wines in the tasting we had were delicious, and compared to other wineries in the area they gave us a bigger "splash" of wine in every glass. Some places around here will only give ya maybe half a sip for your tastings lol. Customer service was fantastic amd made us feel right at home. Came here for some wine tasting after grabbing lunch at the pasta spot next door. Very laid back ambience. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. It was a nice day in Paso so we opted to chill outside on their adirondacks. Our server Alex was very friendly and accommodating. We went with the classic tasting and there was some good variety in those pours! Alex was super chill and gave us enough info on the tastings we were enjoying but also gave us plenty of time between pours to simply enjoy ourselves. We had such a fun wine tasting here with Kat!! She was so personable and approachable and walked us through both wine facts/history and had us try exciting new wines we probably wouldnt have leaned towards, but loved. Like the Pet Nat, Kat's personality is very bubbly and she made us feel well taken care of and not rushed. The tasting room is very non-traditional and modern (not located on a vineyard) and extremely chill, in keeping with Field's unique and non-trad wines. I liked the fact that you could choose between a red/white tasting or a bubbly tasting - something for everyone. Winewise I suggest you try Posie, the Fiasco, the Alta Nebbiolo and their best selling Wonderwall. This is a really fun place for wine tasting in Tin City. They have an upstairs spacious tasting room where you can sample several wines. The wide range of interesting, eclectic varietals have unusual names, like Pets (a delicious Petite Sirah), Happy Accidents, and Expensive Landscape. I tried a meaty Italian red called Alta Gaviota, using the Lagrein grape, which I'd never tried. It was full of tannins and fruit forward, which I liked. The staff was friendly and we enjoyed tooling around Tin City, an upscale, trendy area to for trying boutique wines and beers. On the lower level, stop in the Italian market-- it offers a great assortment of picnic items, fresh sandwiches, pastas, and gifts. Tin City is well worth visiting if you're in the area. read more

We were almost going to pass this place and a friend stated we should try it and we were like ok, whatever, OMG, I'm soo glad we gave it a chance because it was one of our favorite spots! The venue was super chill, they had various album covers on the walls that we discovered with the staff as far as who they belonged to, we also played a game and it ate our dollar and they let us do it again once they fixed it! The staff was super funny and one was from our area, so we reminisced with him, and they had this special bottle of bubbly that we all got and they offered to keep it for us until we were done for the day! Just another fun winery in Tin City. The tasting price fee is voided if two wines are bought. The wines are totally subjective, so I don't like to base my vote based on how much I liked or disliked the wines (I liked the wines). The winery is incredibly fun; imagine a wine called "Expensive Landscapes" that only exists because the winery decided to ask a bunch of rich people in the Paso area for their grapes since the residents only wanted the grapevines for the aesthetic and status of having wine grapes in wine country. For outright uniqueness, consider the canned wines. Some of them, including the cabernet with stout yeast is pretty much a beer-wine. It's weird and unique. Maybe you'll like it, maybe you won't. read more

A great stop in the Tin City group of urban wineries. Very eclectic winery with a wide variety of wines, mostly blends. As others mentioned, they do offer their Fiction canned wine that is perfect for picnics. But when you come visit, they are more likely to pour their upper end Field Recordings label which is more traditional. (trivia: each of the bottle labels are shaped like the actual vineyards) I love their story- the owner was experienced in the agricultural side of the wine business and was able to source great fruit and soon became a winemaker. First thing I can say is CANNED WINE...yes canned. I've had boxed and bottled, but this is a first for us. They can some of the wines and it doesn't seem to do anything to deter the flavor of it. They also sell it in four packs and we picked up a four pack of the "Alloy Wine Works" which is a blend and cost us $40, but one can is equivalent to 2/3 of a 750 ML bottle of wine (did I use too many numbers?) The grapes are bought not estate so they likely get a larger choice on those to determine what to make and can...still can't get used to that one. It was interesting, small, but interesting. By appointment only and way off the beaten tract in a section off the 101 that looks more industrial than winery. Give it a shot...the least you can do is say you tried canned wine. read more

I've been here three times now, and I have mixed feelings about the quality of wine. There are some that I enjoy and others that I can't drink. I do like that they have several sparkling wines. I think they are also starting a brewery, and they offer wine in cans to go. One thing that really throws me off is their decor--it's decorated like a high school cafeteria/gym. Soooo maybe a good spot for a group of guys out tasting? I will say that the variety and lower price point sets it apart from the nicer specialty wineries in our area. Not a huge fan, we stumbled on this place as we walked into tin city and decided to take a chance. It had a basketball auditorium aesthetic which made me feel younger at heart, but ultimately felt really old drinking. We did one wine tasting and one beer tasting. Both my boyfriend and i were very disappointed with the wines, especially the orange wine. We had never heard of orange wines before this and it tastes like medicine.
