Strange situation, my fiancé and I have filled out two separate applications in the past few months to adopt two rodent ranger barn cats with no response. We drove out to their beautiful ranch only two find two cats for adoption but they were indoor cats. Wondering I'm wondering if this non profit taking in so much in donations is a legitimate non profit finding cats good homes? Anyone else having a similar experience? I got my kitty Rhea spayed here through their low cost spay/neuter clinic. And I have nothing but good things to say! The check in/ pick up was quick, easy and professional. I've been helping Fieldhaven for a couple of years and loved them. Unfortunately, they're happy to take my free labor in the form of free labor, but when I have a cat that needs their help, they told me they wouldn't help this cat. My sister died unexpectedly in February and left me with her cat. I took in her cat, but the cat is terrified of me and my cats constantly attack her to the point that she hides and refuses to eat or drink. Their response to me needing help was, they will give me a courtesy post to help rehome her, but I'm responsible for all costs for this cat and they will not take her or find her a foster. This is not my cat, I cannot afford her, she's constantly being attacked by my hyper-aggressive cats to the point where she refuses to eat and drink, but they refused to help her. I was crying because no one will help this cat. The volunteer was rude and said "I don't know what you want us to do." I told you. Help this cat. I've worked with them and helped them and they couldn't be bothered to help this poor cat after her human died that is living in miserable conditions. Fieldhaven is garbage. I don't know what they do besides benefit from free labor. They asked me to take some kittens today. They won't help my dead sister's cat, but they want my help. read more

Just had a simple question on what resources i have for rehoming my cats temporarily. Left a message and waited to hear back, i missed one call from someone named "Debra" because i'm not around my phone 24/7 and got this passive aggressive message. All she had to say was that she wanted to return my call, she didn't need to say all this. this text stressed me out and made me very angry, which isn't healthy for my pregnancy. Worry about your customer service like other people in these reviews are saying and maybe people will be more receptive to your help. Do better. Seriously. read more

Short version: Polite at first, but then rude and dishonest. I would strongly recommend you read the other cautionary reviews here before dealing with FieldHaven. Several people had the same experience we did. Rude behavior and, worse than that, dishonest behavior. We adopted two kitties a little over a month ago at a local PetSmart from FieldHaven. Our daughters met them and fell in love. Both cats had supposedly been fully checked out by their vet and had all their vaccinations. My wife took the cats to our vet only to discover they had FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus). According to our vet, this was a quick and easy test with 95% accuracy. From the time of diagnosis, this disease kills 85% of those cats within 3 years and it is highly communicable between cats unless infected cats are literally quarantined from healthy cats. We made a hard decision - to surrender two live kittens back to FieldHaven rather than have our children likely go through the loss of two kittens within three years. When we took the cats back to FieldHaven the woman we spoke with was rude and judgmental for us bringing the cats back. She took us through to the back of their facility and we got to see a room filled with cats in cages. She also told our daughter that the tests from the vets were "highly inaccurate" and very often had "false positives" and "frequently" even cats that had FeLV will suddenly and spontaneously become disease free. (Our vet did say, in an extremely small number of cases, spontaneous remission was possible - but the cat would always be a carrier) The woman with FieldHaven said that "very often" when they test a cat for FeLV, they will test and retest that cat until they get a negative result. What seems more likely to you? That a vet with a state of the art facility runs a test and gets a 95% accurate result - or that this non-vet "expert" at FieldHaven chooses to run a test over and over until they get a clean bill of health? (Mind you, if they run it 20 times, they're bound to get a negative test result due to it being the 5% chance!) After offering all this false hope and these guilt trips to my daughter, she offered to call us back after she had run and re-run these tests. Why would she do this? Although we didn't ask for a refund, someone from FieldHaven called my wife to offer a refund. When we called back they said they had never heard of the person who called us, then they said the person was busy, then they said the person was out and would call us back. All of this within a single phone call. I'm not ticked off about a refund. I'm ticked off with them because once we had paid the adoption fees and left with the cats it turns out they were rude and dishonest. FieldHaven advertises itself as a "no kill shelter." I think what they really mean is they'll tell you anything to offload a terminally ill cat. I suspect don't they vaccinate their cats or test them for diseases. As another reviewer suggests, ask them to show you the paperwork for any vaccinations. I think you'll find it doesn't exist. read more

I have dealt with FieldHaven for 7yrs. I adopted 3 cats from them, had 2 cats neutered by them, and used the vet when they had the clinic open to the public. They have always been professional, compassionate and very helpful with any follow up needed. I know they have also been doing Trap, Neuter and release of the Feral population when the community alerts them of a colony and needs help, for over a decade. Their spay/neuter clinic charges only a fraction of a private vet, so it makes it affordable for low income owners to do the right thing by their kitties. They also have low cost vaccination and microchip clinics. ;they help where ever it is possible to do so. I donate because they are a non-profit with absolutely NO government funding, and I think they do spectacular work for the community, all on fundraising, donations, and volunteers. fieldhaven is the best! They have the sweetest volunteers there and their facility is so unique and clean. Everyone is so happy to be there and their kitties are very well treated and happy as well. they even have volunteers to just spend time with the kitties and play with them and show them love. I adopted my kitty from Fieldhaven and she's the best. I am a relatively new kitty owner, so I get stuck with a few things. But I know I can always call them and ask them anything and they'll always help me. Also! they do AMAZING work with other shelters. They have wonderful programs that help with feral cats, and outdoor kitties. they have a Rodent Ranger shelter on the property where you can adopt cats that take care of your mice problems on your property :) this shelter does amazing, outstanding work and it's full of wonderful people and some pretty amazing felines. Field Haven has been the most helpful rescue place I could even imagine. I've spoken to other rescue groups in the past, trying to get information about how to adopt out strays and such, and the other groups were NO Comparison to Field Haven! NO other rescue place has given me help or even advice-NONE. I'm lucky to get a reply "sorry we can't help you." One was even complete jerks to me, for asking the best way to adopt out rescued kittens. In contrast, Field Haven is very informative and helpful via email or phone. Bear in mind, I'm tenacious on Facebook, website, phone, or in person. One look at their establishments and you can tell they care very much about the cats, treat, and feed them very well. The people are very friendly and helpful on a very consistent basis and I'm really happy to be able to pet their adoptable cats and see their progress. I've gotten over 15 cats/kittens fixed via their TNR program in under two years, 3 of which are inside now with me, & 3 more with other families. One feral outside I can pet her but she's still pretty wild. And people, those with complaints, don't just spout them on Yelp. TALK to someone at FieldHaven so they have a better chance to address the issue! Anyone can have a brain fart. We humans are not mind readers, and we don't have instincts as good as animals have. read more

I just adopted a wonderful cat from Fieldhaven yesterday. My daughter-in-law had adopted from them previously and said they were wonderful, so I met her out there to check them out. These people are awesome! They know their cats, and are incredibly helpful. The facility was designed by a UC Davis vet(s) and is built completely with the cats' care in mind. It is clean, with lots of room for the cats. I checked out all the cats while I was there and they all seemed happy, clean, well fed and content. Although what they do is good, if you have to work with Jen, she is rude and nasty and makes promises that she cannot keep. When you call upon those promises she pretends to not know what you are talking about and even goes to the extent of pretending she does know who you are. Then she says cruel things to you like, "let the cat out on the highway for all I care" "or we don't have room for it" even though she just got done e telling another person to bring a cat in. I have no clue how this person is still working at this organization any more. I had volunteered with the 2 years ago offering transport for the cats to and from Yuba City, Marysville, and some of the areas in between. When I had first approached them Jen was kind and sweet. Said that she could help with spay/neuter as long as any other services where paid for, yet every time I brought in a group of kittens, I was dropping hundreds into all of the services. They were building the feral sanctuary and I had "filled out the paperwork online" for every single cat in the colony to have a safe place to go. Not only did I have to come out of pocket 100% but she kept bumping me with excuses that this facility or that facility needed this and that. They were unadoptable kittens and she sits there and plays god as to which cat lives and dies. Like I said, I have no problem with anyone else. But there was a person in my area that did not have a car so I offered to drop a trapped cat off for them and when I called it was just bash after bash after bash. I mean she speaks to people like this! Abuses people who are desperate for help with the cats and she is just rude and nasty to people. Making them feel like it is their fault that the cat is strayed in the first place. I have no clue how she gets away with talking to people like that and no one comes forward to say anything! read more

I am absolutely disgusted by this place! I have some cats in my neighborhood that are feral and are attacking other animals. Animal Control sent me to contact this place saying that they might be able to help. Their website says that they help people find Barn cats which is what these cats would be great at. I called and left a message and received a call back a day or two later. The lady who called me back was EXSTREAMLY rude! My message just said that I had some feral cats in the neighborhood who were attacking and injuring other animals and I was wondering if they could help me find a place where they could be Barn cats or rescued or something along those lines. My message also stated I was interested in any other advice they could give me on good places for these cats where they could have a good life and so could the local animals in my neighborhood. Immediately upon calling me she was very rude and said that I had no right to try to do anything with those cats and that they have every right to live there even though they are attacking other animals and injuring them severely. She told me it was my job to feed these cats and that they would not attack if they were fully fed. I told her that they had previously had access to food and we're attacking just as much during that time and that animal control had told us to not allow them access to food. She was very rude and was snapping at me that I had to feed them and it was my responsibility to care for all of these cats. When I told her I was trying to find a good place for them and then I was not able to take care of them she was extremely rude to me. The whole time she talked to me she had an attitude and was never kind or understanding or gave me anything helpful. She would not even let me talk or respond to anything she said and I finally had to hang up on her because she would not listen to me at all and was just yelling at me. Then she turned around and started texting my phone with the same things. I told her that I would not be feeding or caring for these cats at all and she said maybe she could find people who would want to care for them. I reminded her that I did not want the cats to be drawn into this area by being fed here but she was welcome to give my information to anyone who was willing to take them to a place and care for them away from our house and neighborhood. I got no more reply from her but then received a text from another lady who wanted to come feed the cats at my house! It was an extremely infuriating when I am trying to go out of my way to help these animals not have to be put to sleep because they're injuring other animals and yet I am treated like the enemy and told I am responsible to care for all of the Stray Cats in my neighborhood. I could even have handled the information she gave me much better if she had at least been kind and understanding during it but she immediately called with an attitude and was very rude through the entire process. read more

I work as a volunteer with Fieldhaven and have worked with other rescues in the past. I have not worked with a better rescue organization that has handled the care of the cats and people in such a caring way. As with any organization, there are ways of handling adoptions. First, there are three different places to adopt kitties. Petsmart in Lincoln shows Fieldhaven kitties, Snap It Up shows a kitty of the week sometimes more, and the shelter itself. You can also see all the adoptable kitties on the website and some coming soon kitties. Sometimes there are many people who want one kitten so Fieldhaven has tried to set up a system to be as fair as possible to the first person who asks for the kitten. Online there is an application that everyone fills out when they adopt a cat. If you see a cat that you want to adopt you need to go online and fill out the adoption application and put the cat's name on it that you are wanting to adopt. Fieldhaven will get in touch with you and let you know if you were the first to turn in the application for that kitty, they will also let you know if someone else has already adopted that kitty and try to best fit you with another kitty in the shelter. Reading Jessica L's review, I'm assuming she may not have filled out the application or someone else had before she did. Another thing I like about Fieldhaven, and another reason why I decided to work with them, is that they are very honest about what cats may not fit in your family situation. As a foster, we are asked specifically about the cats' personalities and what will not work for the kitty in a home. Unfortunately, we also deal with many "returns" of kitties who did not work out in a certain situation. We put a lot of love into our fosters and know how hard it is for the kitties to adapt to new homes and then to only be returned can be heartbreaking. Then the kitty has to try to be rehomed, and it is not in the best interest for the animals. We try very hard to avoid that situation, but know sometimes things happen. My guess is that Jim L. was wanting a cat that did not do well with children, weather they met them or not. The foster probably let the adoption councilor know that children were not ok and knowing how hard things become down the line when it doesn't work out, that person called Jim. They would have tried to set Jim up with a cat that better suits his family had he not taken it so personally. Miss R., all I can say is we get many calls and emails to our shelter of lost cats. Our policy is to send out mass emails to our volunteers, instruct the owner on how to search for your cat (i.e. posters, etc) and we post your posters in our shelter. We are not the police, who are best suited for the type of situation you had. With the volume of email we receive, we try to get to everyone but sometimes things get missed. If a cat is lost and someone needs help finding their pet the best way to get in touch with us is to call. We try to return every call. I recommend Fieldhaven to anyone who is looking for a cat. We try to find the best fit possible, in an honest and caring way. Every cat is cared for and loved and if you get time go out and see the shelter, it is beautiful! read more

If I could give no stars I would! My wife lost her mother and we needed to find a home for her 14yr old cat. My wife came to visit this so called feline sanctuary and was turned away as the cat was to old for them to deal with. They told us to try and post an add on Facebook or next door app. We found a potential family to adopt the cat. They somehow thought to call Field Haven for some advice about introducing the cat to their older cats. Someone at Field Haven told the adopting family to not take the cat as the cat is to old and should not be with other animals or kids. Field Haven never meet the cat or knew anything about her other than her age. Tat the cat was raised with 2 other animals most of her life 1 cat and a large dog plus was around our 2 children. Now my wife is dealing with the loss of her mother and finding Tat a new home again! This place is a joke and extremely rude and does not really care about people or cats!!!! This organization is anything but organized. I adopted a cat for my mother. She, the cat, supposedly had an eye infection but was otherwise in excellent health, had seen a vet regularly during her stay at Fieldhaven, etc., etc. An ointment for the eye was included with the adoption - no extra charge. Oh, and the adoption fee was discounted because she'd been there so long. Great deal we thought. We had the cat to our vet the first week only to discover that it wasn't an eye infection at all. Her lashes were growing inward toward her eye causing the irritation. The condition is common in cats and is easily corrected by surgery. It is also a condition that should have been identified by their vet if indeed she had been to the vet regularly. When I called to request a little help with the vet fees they basically said, she's your responsibility now. When I pointed out the fact they should have known about this and warned us when we adopted her they just said there was nothing they could do. They wouldn't even give us a referral to a vet who might discount the surgery for us. I felt cheated and lied to, taken advantage of then left out in the cold to fend for myself. Animal rescue? Maybe. People friendly, not so much. So, stupid person that I am, about a year later I spotted a 7 month old kitten at one of their adoption site in a pet store. I thought, well, maybe the first instance was a fluke and I should give them the benefit of the doubt. I asked to meet the kitten and fell in love. The people there told me she was in excellent health, had been spayed, etc. I asked specifically about vaccination, rabies specifically, and was told emphatically, yes, she had had all her vaccinations and was upto date on everything. Once again, I got to my vet and they couldn't find any indication she'd had her rabies shot yet. So I called Fieldhaven to see if they could send me proof. Should I have been surprise when the response came that the kitten probably (Probably!? What, you don't have records? Or, can't find them?) hadn't gotten a rabies shot? And again I was told, the cat I mine now and the shot is my responsibility. What is the adoption fee for!!! One of their selling points is that their animals are all ready for adoption, shots, chips, health. I am so frustrated with this organization. What they do is so important and I want to support them but find it a little difficult when they have lied to me twice now and don't even have the courtesy to admit it. Just suck it up and say oops, we goofed. I'll be the eye condition was why the first cat was there so long finally being discounted so they could place it. Had I known about the condition we still would have adopted the cat. My mom is a sucker for a pretty calico. At least we would have known and been prepared for the extra expense. If you see a cat at this place make them show you all records first, proof of every claim they make about the cat. Ask every question you can think of including what sort of assistance they will provide if there are any surprised you discover which they neglect to mention before the adoption. I was looking to adopt an orange tabby earlier this year and found my little companion on the Fieldhaven website back in January. After completing an online adoption application I was contacted the next day by a very sweet volunteer letting me know I can meet the kitten that day. It turned out he was cat of the week and was located at Snap thrift store, which I thought was odd at first. When I met the kitten, it was love at first site.....lol. The adoption process was super easy. I think I paid $45 for a kitten who was neutered, had all his shots up to date, and microchipped!!! That's an awesome deal! I had also visited the main rescue site to meet with a second kitten but the bonding just wasn't there. As for the service, the volunteers there are amazing!! Way more friendly and attentive than I had ever expected. One of the volunteers contacted me 3 times within an approx 2 month span to make sure there were no problems with the my newly adopted kitten. She asked if he was adapting well and so forth. They even helped me out with my second adopted kitten who wasn't one of their own. They gave plenty of advive when needed and even referred me to the spay and neuter clinic in Auburn as a less expensive option to fix my second kitten. I have absolutely no complaints with my interactions with the volunteers at Fieldhaven. They're just awesome! read more

I just recently adopted my second Fieldhaven kitty, Edward. As with my first cat adoption several years ago, the staff was extremely helpful with the adoption process and made sure that I knew all of Edward's medical history at the time of adoption. Just like my first adoption, they were thrilled to be able to place one of their cats in a good home and are very concerned that animals are matched with the proper owners. All of Fieldhaven's adoptables have extensive information available on them, i.e., which ones get along with other cats, dogs and small children and any other special little personality traits. Fieldhaven's adoption counselors go above and beyond to make sure the kitties are matched with the correct owners so that they go to their forever homes. Follow-up calls are placed after adoption to make sure everything is still working out. If you are interested in adopting a cat, this is the only place to go to. Fieldhaven is wonderful. read more

We just went into Fieldhaven to adopt a cat we had previously seen at Petsmart. Both my wife and I had previously owned cats and know full well what we would be getting into. We spent some time with the cat and got along really well. They then said we needed to bring our kids in to visit with the cat before they would let us take her home. Weird, but OK. We agreed to bring our children in this afternoon. By the time we returned home, we received a phone call saying they did not want to release the cat to a family with kids. The cat loved us, sat on my lap for a while and our home is big enough where there is plenty of space for them to get to know each other at a distance. The loser in this situation is the cat who they are refusing to send to a good home. If people reach out and try to give an animal a home, that should be championed, not a situation to jump through hoops and told you are not qualified. While these people may have good intentions, their policies and efforts are terrible. Our daughter will now be heartbroken because someone has taken it upon themselves without meeting our children to say they aren't good enough to own a cat. read more

Wonderful organization! Last year my 3 year old Maine-coone kitty was diagnosed with arthritis which is rare at his age. He started receiving injections to lubricate his joints which gave him all kinds of energy that made him want to play constantly! I couldn't keep up with the guy so I thought maybe he needs a friend. I saw an ad for Fieldhaven at pet food express over in Roseville and thought I'd check it out so I visited their website and saw a little tortoise shell kitten named Mulan that I fell in love with. We went out to Fieldhaven and met with her foster mom, Natalie. She was healthy, fixed, microchipped, and came with all her records. Natalie was wonderful and took great care of Mulan by acclimating her to dogs and other cats. We took her home that night and she fit right in with our little family. We renamed our little girl hermione. After a week of bringing her home she was cuddling with her new brother. They are inseparable and I am so thankful for our little bundle of fluff. Great place. Honest people. Got my little kitten and her 1 year old buddy there. They are sweet and it's a clean facility. The people are welcoming and the cats nice and clean. If the cats had health issues they let us know when we went to see them. Would recommend to anyone to go and pick a cat/kitten from there read more
