After two days of no help I called Nerds On Call. Grant came out and was able to figure everything out. He was extremely nice, very efficient and did not make me feel ignorant! I used Nerds On Call about 15 years ago so I was really happy to see they are still around. I'm so annoyed with Fidium that I will be switching to another provider.

Even if you already know what piece of hardware needs to be replaced, the screen. Then after they charge you, they'll tell you they can't get the part, but your diagnostic fee will not be refunded. Think about it, they charge you money, to tell you what it will cost to replace a part that I already know is broken. It's such a scam, they refuse be up front about their pricing. Avoid this place at all costs. Editing 1 year later: After 1 year, they reply with a message that kind of proves my point. They say the diagnostic fee is to know the "overall health of the computer". Again, if a customer ONLY wants the screen replaced, and the computer still doesn't work, obviously that's a risk the customer is taking. But seeing how I hooked the machine up to an external monitor and it worked fine. It was clear the only problem was the cracked screen. I realize you need to diagnose some machines, but it should not be mandatory in all cases. I wish they would just admit that they diagnostic fee is because it has a 99% profit margin. The labor involved is 5 minutes. It's like going to a tire shop to get a new tire, and they tell you ... "Well, I am not sure if the bald tire with a giant hole needs to be replaced, give me $100 and I will tell you" ... A few moments later ... "Sir, you need a new tire, but we don't have the tire, sorry" Many years ago in college, before graduating with my computer science degree, I worked for the Geek Squad, which is owned my BestBuy. We had the same scam of charging people a diagnostic fee. It's a shame that a smaller business would stoop to this level of corporate greed like BestBuy. Edit #2, same day as edit #1 (after business 2nd response): I appreciate what you are telling me, but this is easy to say publicly, but when I was in your shop, it was a very different conversation. What you are describing was not my experience. I was being charged a diagnostic fee, which was not going to be applied to the labor, which is crazy, but whatever. The real scam came AFTER this. I was told you cannot get the screen I needed for replacement AFTER you charged me the diagnostic fee. This is absolutely a scam. My tire analogy is EXACTLY what happened to me.
