This is our favorite local Mexican restaurant. We eat here once every few weeks. We never have an issue getting a table. This place is pretty spacious. We're always greeted with chips and salsa, both hot and mild. Their hot salsa is delicious. Definitely my favorite thing about eating here. Their drinks are great also. Margs are top notch. I usually get the chimichangas and they're very good. The service is always good. Our drinks stay filled and the food comes out pretty fast. I've definitely experienced better. For some reason whenever we're away from home, Mexican food always turns out to be our go-to meal type of choice. We tend to get the same few items regardless of what new items are on the menu. Just like every other meal choice, my husband chose the chicken fajitas and I chose a taco salad. He described his fajitas as bland. I will admit, I requested my salad with a slight modification by asking for cheese sauce instead of shredded cheese. As it turned out, they used shredded chicken in the taco salad. There was a puddle of water/grease at the bottom. Yeah, I know this happens when they use the shredded chicken, but this was extreme. DO NOT EAT HERE. Ordered food that wasn't even supposed to have steak in and it had raw steak all throughout it. Cross contamination is a no go! A friend has already gotten sick and if my 9 month old gets sick I'll do everything in my power to be sure they get shut down! read more

The real star of this place was the waiter, he was nice and absolutely hilarious. I can't remember his name for the life of me but he has some good jokes and a great sense of humor. It's very common for a Mexican place to have servers who are reserved and not very talkative with English speaking crowds because of the obvious language gap or cultural difference but it was definitely different here and I think that's what I enjoyed the most. The food was above average for a traditional Mexican restaurant, I've heard terrible things about this place but I do really feel like it's being cleaned up and fixed up by either new management or the staff finally wanting to permanently stamp this place and show pride for the place they work for. I ordered the steak burrito and boy was it filling. It came with a side of rice and beans, and every bit of it was tasty and satisfying to eat. I typically scoop the rice and beans with tortilla chips and this time was no exception, if you haven't tried doing that yet give it a shot. I think you'll enjoy the flavor blast. As other reviews have stated, it's hit or miss. Definitely better than the other Mexican restaurant in town but sometimes I wonder. It's one of the few places to have a sit down dinner in Taylorsville so I really can't complain too much. Some nights it's a 4 star.. Some nights it's a 2 star that's why I put my review at 3 stars. Okay I have been meaning to get here sooner but just never seemed to make it, but tonight I was very tired and just wanted something warm and filling. Tony suggested the restaurant and he rarely picks, so I thought why not??? We were seated and greeted quickly. She took our drink orders, soda and draft beer while we looked over the menu. I was trying not to be effected by the whining child behind me and the parents (very loud by the way) thought it was funny to make fun of the visibly upset child...I had to bite my tongue!!! I went with the Chipotle Burrito combo which included beans and rice. Tony went with a shrimp and chicken dish covered in the White cheese sauce. It was listed under seafood but it was mainly grilled chicken His was very good, I had to snag a bite or two. It also looked really good too which is a plus!!! Mine....NOT SO MUCH!!! There was this orangish cream sauce poured all over my plate...very unappealing and bland tasting...In a nice way, it was gross!!! I had to pick at my plate and try to salvage what chicken out of the burrito that I could muster. The rice and beans were also covered in this mess, so I had to try to eat around the orange goo...I would never eat this again. I asked for a come refill three times and it never made it to my table. Not pleased with the $35 ticket including tax and tip..I left her a 5 spot because she had a job to do even if it was serving me a mess!!! read more

When traveling, eating Mexican food out can be a crapshoot. Many of the reviews were old. We were more than impressed with the meal, the service, and the price. Our friends had the salmon with shrimp and tacocs. Both said it was very good. My husband had chili relleno and he had the sauce on the side as it was described as spicey, but he didn't feel it was that hot. My carnitas were sooo good. Tender, crispy on outside. I highly recommend it. The margaritas were good - not real sweet or mixy. Rice was meh lime all Mexican restaurants. The whole bill for 2 dinners with one drink was only $31.00. Nothing special about decor, but you're in Taylorsville, Kentucky. Immediate seating, attentive service, and quickly served. Muy bueno! read more

Y'all, Mexican in Taylorsville, KY may at first appear to be a bad idea but let me tell you, this was some of the best Mexican food I've ever consumed in my life. The portions could feed 3 of me and everything tasted 100% homemade. They even make their own flour tortillas! So if for some reason you are ever in the area you need to stop here for a meal and when you're done rent a room at the Eagle's Motel next door because you'll need to nap for at least 3 hours afterwards. read more

ok, here we go. same old same for almost everywhere in town. the service is super slow... when we go, we always order queso with beef in it, and guacamole. they never understand whay we are asking for, so it always has to go back to have beef added. then its awesome. but, no matter how many dips you order, they will not only bring you just one bowl of chips, but they will come back to your table, see that you are out of chips but still have a ton of guac and queso and still not refill it unless you ask them to. the food is good, its the service that is lacking. the ice cream parlor is the best deal in town, if you can get someone to come over and help you. the outside deck is really nice. i wish the service was better, id 5 star this place in a heart beat read more

Coming back from Taylorsville Lake, this is a great place to stop for something cold to drink and some good food. They have a fairly typical menu for a Mexican place around here, but to me, the food is above average. I think the food is fresher than other places like El Nopal. The portions are generous, too. I usually go with my extended family, so there's usually 6-8 of us. They handle groups just as easily as they handle smaller groups. The food comes out fast and hot. The staff is efficient, friendly, and helpful. read more

I can't believe these mexicans can't understand english enough that when I complain that they gave me a peice of chicken with onions and green peeper, it doesn't match the country salad that I ordered. We have frequented their place several times and had a good experience inside the dwelling. This was our fist pick up order and it was completely screwed up. I was looking foraward to the country salad as I had purchased inside the restaurant, but calling to complain that they sent me a 10.99 peice of chicken with onion and green pepper was not the country salad, the guy on phone could'nt comprehend what I was saying. We just found out about this restaurant and was pleased until this massive screw up. I hung up because he couldn't understand what the issue was. It's always a hit or a miss. Either the food is wrong, or it's cold, or both. When it's a hit, it's amazing. When I walked inside, I had to wait for about 10 minutes before I even saw a worker. We love going to this place to eat! The food is always so fresh! Some of the best Mexican cuisine. My husband and I make this a got to go to place. We like El Nopal but if your looking for fresh Mexican cuisine this is the place to go. I am not a huge Guacamole fan but my husband likes it now and then. I have never seen Guac look so fresh in any other restaurant. My husband said it is the best most fresh Guac he has ever eating. Started out well with a friendly waitress and went downhill from there. I ordered a tall beer and my food it came on time. I told the waitress in advance I would be ordering a to go order also. I ate my food and finished my beer. I waited and waited for her to return I wanted another beer and to place my to go order but she never showed. After about 30 minutes of getting our food I finally just got up and placed my to go order at the bar I didn't even order a beer because after such a long wait I wasn't in the mood for it. It wasn't even crowded, I really don't know why it's so hard for some people that want a good tip not to check on the customer. Nice to have a place like this to eat in Taylorsville, formerly I would always have to drive to Shelbyville. If you've ever been to any of the "sort of authentic" Mexican restaurants, you won't find any surprises. The quality of Beef and Chicken ( particularly in the Fajita and steak dinners) leaves a bit to be desired, and could do with better quality meats. The regular chicken breast dinners, Burritos, enchiladas, and such are all very good though. Pricing is a bit high in my book for this type restaurant with my family of 3 typically spending about $60 for dinner. Atmosphere is great, and so are the wait staff. All in all, I'm at least there once a week and probably will be for as long as it's there. read more
