We were shopping in the area and looked for a new place to try. Couldn't have been more satisfied. A family owned business with freshly made corn tortillas, yes please! We were quickly seated by a smiling face and given drinks. Our waiter was so friendly and accommodating. The place was packed. It looked like it had been a diner in the past perhaps. The walls and ceilings were lined with vibrant art and papel picado in bright colors. We tried the ground beef queso and it was so full of flavor. It seemed scratch made with just the right balance of meat to cheese. We tried both flour and corn tortillas. I preferred the hearty corn, but the flour was equally delicious. Service and food was average to good, but I would avoid the Margaritas. I had a frozen lime Margarita with salt -- it was basically flavored water with zero alcohol at a premium price. If you need alcohol, stick with the limited selection of bottled beer. I doubt I will return. read more

We live in Arizona and eat Mexican food frequently. While on a trip to KY recently we were surprised by how many Mexican food restaurants there were and decided to give La Fogata a try. WOW! It was delicious! I had the Birra tacos, my husband had (2) Gorditas, my oldest daughter had chicken enchiladas with red sauce and my youngest daughter had a cheese quesadilla. Had a quick lunch here today, ordered the chicken gordita. It was served very hot with two sauces on the side, one spicy chipotle and the other a green chile. It was great and the service was fast and friendly. I enjoyed the Mexican music they were playing. This is a new Mexican place on the east end of Shelbyville right at first and main. It doesn't look very inviting from the outside and less so on the inside. There is a lack of decor and the menu is hand written on paper. They have plenty of time to fix this. The place is clean so I'm not reviewing that. I am also not reviewing the fact that they use a lot of single use disposable products. I got a styrofoam plate for my chips, one for my sope, one for my taco, a styrofoam bowl for salsa and a styrofoam cup for my water. I saw other customers ,who ordered combo plates, had actual china so hopefully they will buy more. I came for the food and it is good. I had a chorizo sope. It came with beans, crema, queso, avocado and lettuce. It was great. Sopes are one of the hardest things to eat. The disk of masa is fried crisp and then everything piles on board. It's too stiff to cut with a plastic knife. You can't fold it like a taco or you will be wearing it. I just picked it up and chewed around the edges. No too much bounced off of me. The taco pastor was solid. Not cut off a spit and no real pineapple but good nonetheless. It was more like a spicy pork taco. I'm good with that. The salsa bar. How I love thee. Pickles and salsas and picó and radishes. My favorite was the hot red salsa. It had a smoky roasted flavor to it. I could drink that. I didn't even try there specialty yet. Charcoal chicken. It looked awesome. Quarter bird with two combos[not sure what that means] is $8.55. They looked awesome. read more
