What an amazing shop! Was on vacation in LA for a concert and had some extra time for sightseeing…read moreand scoping out awesome food stops, so we knew Fugetsu-Do had to be on the list. The shop has been open for 103 years and is certainly impressive! We got there about 10 minutes before open and were the first ones in line. The mochi was fresh, they had a huge selection, and at a good price. They also have tons of other snacks and the staff was so nice and friendly. By the time we left, there was already about a dozen people in line behind us, so definitely recommend to get there early. Ultimately, I went with a six piece with two red bean mochi, two blueberry mochi, and two strawberry mochi. All of them were very delicious, the mochi was perfectly chewy, and a good amount of filling. We will definitely be back if we're in the area!

While the owners have long considered remodeling, the store is kept as is to preserve its history and to be a concrete connection to the past. At around 3:30pm, the line was long but it moved quickly. I purchased a six pack with strawberry, LA & walnut/red bean confections, PB/strawberry mochi, fruit mochi & a packet of apple tea. The young employee who assisted me was friendly and helpful. We loved the strawberry & LA mochi treats the best out of the fresh ones. The walnut red bean was okay, but it was a bit dry. The peanut butter mochi were surprisingly good as well! Overall, this shop is a great place to come for freshly made mochi & manju treats as well as a host of other packaged snacks and delicacies. Support Little Tokyo's continued success and growth by stopping by this very special store that has been in the same family since 1903! Store Hours: 8am-6pm daily Arigato!

Galco's will forever hold a special place in my heart…read more This is the OG grocery store we would walk to in the early 80"s. When they had penny candy machines, a big taxidermy deer head and the kindest owner. He once gave me and my sibling a big paper lunch bag full of candies! I love seeing the original check out stand, the little upper office where the owner would stand and the old fridge area where it once held fruits and veggies now old school candy bars. If you grew up in highland park in the 80s, this was the local market. How I miss those days! Highland Park is so different now! Btw Galco's makes some of the best sandwiches! Also if anyone knows where to get Stoney Tangawizi please let me know!

First: I used to love this place. As a fellow small biz…read moreowner nearby, I supported and promoted this place as one of the long standing coolest stores on the Eastside. It has such a selection of candy from your childhood, and for kids, random unique gifts to keep them busy. but yesterday...all that flew out the window. I approached the sandwich counter and asked the person working (an angry woman apparently) what her favorite sandwiches are. After she took a minute to complain about how she had been making sandwiches all day and her brain is fried and she didn't really have any recommendations for me (and was seemingly annoyed at me even asking) she looked at the clock and advised that I was 2 minutes too late to order a hot sandwich. literally the 2 minutes she took to complain about her job cost me the sandwich. now, if it was my shop and a nice family came in and asked me my opinion on something and I took a minute or two to say the things that she said I would give them a sandwich and make that sandwich be the last sandwich of the day, but instead apparently my money wasn't green enough for her. She shut it down and two minutes later was out the door. she was rude, and honestly it just seemed that she didn't give an F. Today I called the store to speak with the owner and the person who answered the phone gave me the runaround. it was clear that either the workers didn't want to connect me with the owner or the owner doesn't want to hear the complaint. this place has gone downhill.
