Yes! This is a staple of the community! There is nice parking lot! First walked in and was nicely greeted with happy smiles! Fun ol school candies! The sodas are plentiful! Love seeing so many varieties and so many I've never seen or heard of! Didn't get the sandwich this time, but when I come back, I will get one! The ambiance of the place is that it's an old staple of this community. Nice people and it was comfortably busy! I will come back again!

Stopped at Galco's on a random weekday. It wasn't crowded and parking was super easy. I'd been wanting to come check this place out for a while now, but kept missing their business hours. I was so glad to finally be able to explore this place. Service was great, they were extremely helpful and offered suggestions. Unfortunately they didn't have exactly what I was looking for, but they still had an awesome assortment of sodas, beer, candy and even a sandwich shop in the back. Another shopper said their sandwiches were great, so I'm definitely going to have to come back and try them. But all in all I had a nice time walking around and finding different soda brands and flavors to try. I can't wait to return!

My boyfriend and I found Galco's on YouTube featuring a video when they appeared on PBS years ago. They are a family owned and operated business that's on to their second and third generation owners. They are known to have unique and hard to find old school and non-local sodas. To this day, there are 700 flavors available. Patrons come here to find sodas from their hometown or from their childhood. My boyfriend and I took a weekend fieldtrip here to explore unique sodas we don't see at the regular grocery store shelves. They have a private lot with plenty of parking. Upon entering we immediately saw stacks and stacks of old school soda boxes. We also saw nostalgic old school candys and other fun trinkets. My boyfriend and I wandered the aisle like kids, debating which flavors we would like to take home with us. We ended up picking 6 sodas. The sodas we picked ranged from $1.99 to $4.19. We got a Moxie Original Elixir, Gingerino Cranberry Ginger, Non-Alcoholic Butter Beer, HW Vanilla Cream Soda, Cheerwine, and Yuzu Sparkling Drink. We had a great time sampling these and will definitely be back for more. They also have an old school sandwich bar in the back. Since we saw it on the YouTube video we decided to get their Original Blockbuster sandwich ($8.99/8-inch sandwich). I'm glad we didn't feel hungry and get anything bigger and shared. Cause it was really awful. The description says it has Italian dry salami, mortadello, salami cotta, ham, provolone cheese, mayo, mustard, and pickles. However when we opened it, it looked like mostly bread and barely filling. Come for the sodas, avoid the sandwich. I'm going to round up and give them 5 stars cause they are first and foremost known for their epic selection of sodas and it's a place we enjoyed and would come back to. Highly recommended. These would also make for a great gift for those who would appreciate nostalgia or uniqueness, especially those who already have enough money to buy whatever they want.

After seeing this place on Instagram and my Facebook feeds, I decided to check it out. I made the Trek over from Westwood to this location and I feel that it was worth it. They have an excellent selection of sodas that are out of this world, as well as some nice beers and hard liquors to choose from. There is also a nice make your own soda station that you can try out which is pretty cool. And finally, I cannot forget to mention the excellent sandwiches at very fair prices. It's too bad that this isn't closer to where I live, otherwise I would probably go here every week or so. So far I've only had a turkey sandwich, and it's one of the best I've ever had. The folks behind the sandwich station know what they're doing. I recommend trying the cucumber soda when it is cold. It's one of the most refreshing drinks when it is cold.

It's a store that can transport you back to the 59's with the music. However the store is more like a warehouse than market. With a large selection of soda pop and spirits this is a great place to come to for variety! Great customer service! I gave it only 4 stars because the smell of the store was too industrial.

After stopping at La Mascota Bakery, we continued our food adventure to Galco's Old World Grocery or Galco's Soda Pop Stop in the Highland Park neighborhood. We tagged along because my brother-in-law's friend discovered his childhood candy bar favorite, CLARK candy bars, at Galco's, then got several old-time soda pop brands that we thought were no longer made or sold in the United States from this store. His mention of Galco's in-house Italian sandwich counter further piqued our curiosity and appetites. A Los Angeles attraction publication featured this grocery/soda pop store as one of the city's secret or hidden gems. It dates back about a century and was originally an Italian grocery store in downtown Los Angeles before moving to Highland Park in the 1950s. Galco's has an attached open parking lot fronting the store entrance. Upon entry, a female cashier at one of their checkout stands cheerfully welcomed us. We passed by their wide selection of old-time candy brands and then browsed the extensive hard-to-find sodas, small craft beers, meads, ciders, French wines, and sakes. Admittedly, we don't drink a lot of soda pop as we prefer drinking water or sparkling water to quench our thirst. However, I found several American soda pop flavors, such as root beer, sarsparilla, huckleberry, vanilla cream, and cherry that I couldn't resist putting into my shopping cart. As I browsed the store, I came across Japan's Ramune carbonated drinks and fruit-flavored Kimino sparkling water. My husband and I teased each other because we didn't intend to buy soda but bought over a dozen types. We've been sharing a bottle of different soda daily while hydrating with water in this cool and dry weather. This clean store has a nice friendly neighborhood vibe that we would happily return to whenever we're out for another adventure.

    Meatball sandwich

Usually this is a go too spot for sandwiches but this is just unacceptable. I will say they did offer a refund when I called in however I have a lunch break and don't have time to come back and return the sandwich and looking for somewhere else to eat. The meatball is tasty and love it but this time the portion size was insanely small. I understand there's margins but if I'm spending 10 bucks for a sandwich I'd at least like to know how many meat balls I'm getting. I got 3 tiny meatballs and usually there's enough to get a good bite out of what you're eating. I'd ask before ordering this sandwich just to make sure you're getting what you paid.

Galco's Old World Grocery aka the Soda store have been around many years as a grocery store and know as the world famous Soda store. People have been coming around California and other state have come to Galco's to find old classic Soda you can't find in store. Once in a while my wife and I go to Galco's to buy vintage Soda that we love they hard to find or they stop making but coming to Galco's we find them. Galco's have a Deli called Galco's Blockbuster they make sandwiches they petty good we enjoy their pastrami sandwiches. We order the turkey Blockbuster they are really good we enjoy our drink we buy. Galco's is part of L.A. history and keeping tradition alive.

We bought some Fallout "Nuka Cola" by Jones, Cuban Materva, Cheerwine, and Inca Kola- all priced well, all excellent tasting. We also picked up a couple of made to order Blockbuster sandwiches which really hit the spot, and tasted even better because we had great service. Galco's is a five star establishment. WoW That's Amazing!

We picked up 2 sandwiches here and loved them! The people in side was very nice not to loud in there very old school grocery store set up. Lots of sodas to choose from plus some old candy's to go through.

Galco's is a fun, old-timey specialty drink stop that's worth a visit when you're in Highland Park. There are a ton of retro sodas and more obscure carbonated drinks from around the world--we brought home some unique flavors like celery soda and blackcurrant. There's also a few counters dedicated to vintage candies and other novelties, which would be perfect for gift shopping. In addition to the soda, there's a more modest selection of diet sodas and IIRC, some beer and other canned spirits, too. Unfortunately we were too full from lunch at Joy or else we would have tried a sub from their deli counter. In the short twenty minutes we were there, at least 10 people came through to order a sandwich--I think that's a good sign. I'll have to come back!

Ask the Community - Galco's Soda Pop Stop

Looking for a soda from South Africa: are there international drinks too? Not asking for Japanese: something very different.

I would love to find Aspen soda. Do you carry it?

I don't recall seeing that at Galco's . You do know that PepsiCo felt it was not any good when they purchase it from Aspen so they came out with SLICE LIME and now SIERRA MIST.

Do y'all carry berry Fanta (blue)?

I don't believe they carry anything from Fanta at all. I did a search on their site. I've never seen any Fanta at Galco's in-person either now that I think of it, but perhaps you can put in a request.…

    Do they have Lilt soda?

If you call them, they will tell you.

Do they have butter beer, Harry porter style?

Yep. I just got a bottle

I asked her how things worked and she explained it all. The kefir/kombucha bottles are $4 for 16 oz and they have 3 of each on tap. I asked Marcy about one before realizing everything had a QR code and you can easily pull up the ingredients and descriptions/directions for each item. I'm getting away from plastics and this place scratches me right where I itch! They sell just about anything you can imagine! I was so impressed w the selection! They even have produce and fresh sourdough bread! The day old is 50% off and I'm so mad I was in a pinch and had to buy store bought bread, otherwise I would've tried it today. I can't say enough. Even the music was fire and I was shazaming and jamming. Shower gels, body care, non seed oils, baking mixes, laundry pods and things you see in bulk at like Sprouts, but the quality and sourcing seems to be better. Some items don't need jars and they sell paper bags for .10 each. I did a kombucha/kefir tasting. Marcy brought these steel bowls over. No waste at all! If you drink the POG kefir soda at Erewhon and love it, try it here! It's made w fruit and is noticeably better! And POG there is my fave. Just try it at Re_!!! So when I was checking out I asked Marcy about being more prepared and bringing my own glasses next time. They've thought of everything!!!! There's iPads and scales in the front of the store. They weigh your empty containers and give you a sticker with the tare weight and then subtract it from the weight at the end! Revolutionary! They add 3% for the employees. I should've added more. Marcy was amazing and worth it. I'm honestly not big on tipping everyone for just breathing but if all the employees are like Marcy, they are worth way more than 3%! If you sign up you get 100 points instantly, $1 = 1 pt, and at 200 pts you get $10! It's not hard to spend in places like this but it's beyond worth it. I keep seeing things about the harms of plastic and don't get me started on all the other crap in our food. I foresee this as a new staple in my diet and home. They even have cleaning products! I'm getting my spices here from now on too! I'm a fan and I'll be back! Thank you Marcy and to the owners that had this amazing idea!

On Tuesday, June 9, 2026, around 6pm, I was waiting in line to purchase a few things at Cookbook. The customer in front of me put her basket on the register and then went to grab a few more items. No worries. I moved toward the register to pay for my purchase while that customer grabbed her other items, but I was intercepted by another customer, a man (who apparently didn't see me waiting?) who cut in front of me to buy a loaf of bread. The cashier let him do so, cashing him out and answering his questions about some other items while I continued to wait. Once his transaction was done, he noticed me and apologized for cutting in front of me in line. Again, no worries. As I went to move up to purchase my items again, the first customer hopped in front of me, back to purchase her items. Or so I thought! She actually put more items on the counter and turned to me saying "I'm going to grab one more thing", before taking off to, assumedly, grab one more thing. I waited for a bit longer, while the cashier simply waited on the woman to come back to her items instead of letting me purchase my items. Annoyed, I turned to the friend who I was shopping with and mentioned 'I kinda just wanna put this back and take off'. This apparently enraged the woman who had all of her items on the counter, who was shopping behind me for her additional item, because she remarked "Really? You have that much rage in your body?". Of course, she hadn't witnessed that I had already been cut in line and had been waiting to cash out for nearly 5 minutes. However, as a Black woman, I knew exactly where her comment was coming from and that she would've absolutely never made a comment like that to me if I didn't have the color skin that I have. At no point in the whole saga did the cashier, nor any of the other employees, take any steps to intervene on my behalf, letting either of the customers who were so rude to me know that I should be next in line. It probably seems petty or minor, but the whole situation did ruin the rest of my day. And it think it was hurtful enough to warrant a conversation with whoever was working at that time. With customer service jobs, the core of your responsibilities are kind of self-explanatory. They're in the title!
