We enjoyed both meals, the wait staff were just not very happy to be there and it was evident. I asked for suggestions, she wasn't happy to give me any so she didn't. I asked for some time with the menu, the staff member went away and came back almost 20 minutes later. Aside from being served by the person who hates their job, the restaurant itself was very dinner-ish. Had a family run feel to it. And I love supporting local business. Fifty's in a staple of Cambridge and somehow their Sunday breakfasts are always lined out the door however unfortunately I have had one too many bad experiences here. At one point I suffered food poisoning from their fish dish several years ago and recently as of only a few years ago I found a bristle from a barbecue brush in my baked beans on the side of my breakfast... I was not offered a refund or a new plate. I contacted the board of health to review their kitchen as contaminated food is not something to take lightly. They lied to the board and said they don't even own bristled brushes and insisted it was already in the can of baked beans. I call absolutely bull. Customer service can be poor but can be great depending who waits on you. Overall I'd suggest going else where for an amazing breakfast such as Country Girl. read more

A solid 4* establishment based solely on the food. This place is located in Cambridge, in Hespeler to be more specific. The outside and inside decor is nothing to talk about. Even the name of the place doesn't provide much confidence. There's plenty of parking in the big plaza even though it might be problematic getting in or out to the street based on the time of day and traffic. Service is adequate as the waitresses are friendly and attentive enough. The food is where this place shines if you are looking for all day breakfast and comfort food. Portions are huge and the meats for the souvlaki were not dry at all. The meat sauce on the pasta is the winner too. They have a very large menu but if the rest of the food is anything like the two dishes we ordered, I'm convinced. For my next visit, I want to try their All Day Breakfast selections. I have eaten at Fifty's Grill in Cambridge at least 200 times since 2010. I have also eaten at numerous other restaurants in the area during the same time frame. I am deaf and rely on lip-reading to understand another person's speech. The COVID-19 mask requirement is the worst obstruction a deaf person can encounter. Since April 2020, I have not encountered one vendor, cashier, counter person, waiter or waitress who didn't immediately recognize my need to see their lips, or alternatively write down what they had to say, UNTIL today, Oct 31, 2021, at the Fifty's Grill in Cambridge. The waitress refused to accomodate my need to either see her lips or write down what she was asking. She simply shrugged her shoulders and motioned with her hands towards the menu. I caught on and ordered a coffee for starters. She returned and plunked it down on the table and left. I did the same. Put my coat on and left, but not before telling the hostess doing the greeting at the door why I was leaving. Such a rude, ignorant waitress despite the patrons at the surrounding tables bearing witness to my plight. Will I return? read more

They have incredible prices that are hard to beat probably anywhere else. You definitely get what you pay for and the quality being exceptional. We ordered the jalapeno poppers which were pretty good, and not too spicy since they used red peppers. My friend ordered the French beef dip which was piled high with slices of beef, it was a tad try and the au jus was just a little bit too salty for my taste, but she enjoyed it very much. I settled with "the godfather" which was the meatball sandwich smothered in sauce and cheese and it was absolutely delicious. The sauce was flavourful and well balanced yet the bread was soft and chewy, it definitely was a knife and fork kind of sandwich, the portion was also huge. Was in Cambridge visiting family and decided to give Fifty's a try. - waitress took food and drink order, then disappeared. 15-20 minutes later, we inquired with another waitress about our drinks. 10 minutes later, different waitress comes by with our drinks and says that our original waitress left cause she was sick. Fine, I understand people get sick, but we were forgotten about until we spoke up. When drinks did arrive, my mom's Pepsi was flat. - I asked if I could get fries and Greek salad with my platter, first waitress said I could. When it came, no Greek salad, steamed veg instead. New waitress says Greek salad doesn't come with the platter and there's nothing she can do. I would have ordered something else if I had known that. Steamed veg had dried oregano on them (nasty) and no oil or butter. Ugh... - hubby ordered the BLT on a Kaiser for an extra 50 cents. What he received was tomato and lettuce on a HAMBURGER BUN. Maybe three slices of bacon on it. And a tiny ramekin of coleslaw on the side. I should have taken a picture, it was so pathetic. - I got the chicken tenders which were battered like fish and chips. Nothing tender about them. They were so hard that two days later, I still have cuts on the roof of my mouth from eating them. Could barely cut through them with a steak knife. Worst chicken tenders I've ever had. The sauces were good though. Won't be rushing back here anytime soon, that's for sure. read more

While shopping in Cambridge, we decided to stop for lunch at this place after reading some great reviews. I got excited when I seen the line up of people waiting to be seated was outside the door! We waited about a half hour before we were seated at a very cute booth for two. The menu was pretty extensive, but I was there was the triple decker club (smoked meat, lettuce, swiss, and tomato. My friend got the Classic, pretty much a chicken club sandwich. The meals came with fries and coleslaw for $12.99 each. I was very happy with the generous portion size, and the freshness and flavours were on point! Tomatoes were cut thick and very fresh. Smoked meat was not dry, the chicken was REAL and cut thick! Fries were great, the coleslaw was also very impressive! I loved how there was a bottle of mustard at my table! (love the little touches ) The service was fast and friendly. Even though the place was rammed jammed busy, we did not feel rushed to eat and leave and the wait staff were very relaxed. If you are in the area and want some great diner food at a great price, give 50's a try! The only negative thing I could say is that the interior could use a facelift. I was really looking forward to visiting here, as I've heard nothing but praise. I understand there were recent renovations, which only usually means good things. I'm not sure why they've kept the restaurant's name because it no longer looks like a 50's place. The decor is very boring grey, with a few accent colours. It could have been any "family-style" restaurant in the area. In a 50's restaurant the atmosphere is almost as important as the food. I had a Montreal smoked meat sandwich and fries. The portions of smoked meat were pretty good but I was expecting more; the fries were below average. My dining companion had chicken fingers. They did look pretty good, not from the freezer section of the supermarket at least. If you're looking for a 50's diner, don't bother stopping in here. The food was acceptable, but not worth my time to drive here, with better options all over the area. I doubt I'll be back. read more

I had the spaghetti chicken carbonara and OMG; I am still daydreaming about it today. I don't like spending money on pasta at restaurants but zero regrets with this one. My boyfriend had the Elvis burger - well seasoned, cooked to perfection, and super juicy. The fries served with them were very, very good. My favourite is the chicken tender salad, its so big, I share it with my mom when we go, it's impossible for me to finish alone. They have great food, their portions are huge. I used to always get the chicken tender meal, but then the waitress suggested I get the appetizer, chicken and fries, just the right amount - and still I can't always finish it. I was really impressed coming here for this first time with my little sister by her request! We ordered the jalapeno poppers, taco salad for myself and caesar chicken wrap for my sister. The food came within ten minutes of ordering and the place was pretty busy, very impressive. The jalapeno poppers were lightly breaded, creamy and spicy, pretty standard for poppers. The taco salad was HUGE I did not expect the light, flaky, green taco shell, three different types of sauces (sour cream, caesar and salsa), loads of veggies and tender grilled chicken on top. It was delicious, I have left overs that I will be taking for lunch tomorrow! We were both so full by the end of the meal, we could barely move. The only qualm I have with fifty's is that it wasn't too busy but they sat us in a booth right beside the door, it was pretty chilly while we were eating. I am sure we could have asked to be moved, the staff were really friendly! The prices were pretty standard for diners, spending around fifty dollars for two people for dinner.
