I would love to give Fig a better review but it was really just ok and not really up to what I felt $1,800 should feel like for a DJ. I was so excited about getting a "really good DJ" for our wedding but I think I could have just gone with an every day company and it would have turned out the same. Our DJ, Brent, was very nice. He was very easy to work with. When we met with him, he offered helpful suggestions but was not pushy. We couldn't come up with a parent dance so he suggested the old standard What a Wonderful World, which we actually hadn't thought of. We ended up changing it, but that's beside the point. When we spoke about the songs we wanted for different parts of our ceremony and reception, we expressed some concern about whether our songs were long enough or too long. Now maybe I misunderstood, but Brent said he could loop songs so that they made the length if we needed it. So first, we ended up walking just a touch longer than planned for the processional (it's hard to walk on grass in heels!) but our song (June Hymn by the Decemberists) ended when I was halfway up the aisle and it was just restarted. Lame. Really? Yes, lame. The 30 seconds of silence would have been better than starting it all over again. Our processional song was I Got You by Wilco. We gave Brent the cue as to when the song should start a few days before the ceremony. It was not started at the right time and it was way too loud and drowned out the officiant. So we were was kind of, okay, not a huge deal. I mean, we were so happy it wasn't really that big of a deal. Then -- we were introduced at the reception with the wrong name. Seriously. After waiting three years to hear us introduced as Mr & Mrs so and so, he introduced us with my last name. I was so disappointed. We also gave Brent a handful of playlists as a guide for cocktail hour. All he played was our playlists exactly. It was just a guide. My husband at one point actually had to tell him to skip a song because it was full of cursing. We were told that he would use our tastes to pick music for cocktails and dinner but he just used our mixes. There was a lot of dancing and people had a great time but I thought there were too many old songs played and not enough new stuff. I'm not an unhappy bride I just think we should have gotten more for what we paid for. At least what we were told we were paying for. Edit: My husband read the review and felt three stars was too much which surprised me because I'm the more critical one of the duo. I changed my rating from three to two based on our experience v. cost. read more

All I wanted for my 50th birthday was a rockin dance party. We had this in spades with James Gustin! He is laid back, super professional, easy to work with and highly motivated to make the party whatever you want it to be! He felt the vibe from the party and adjusted the music constantly and seamlessly. We almost forgot he was there!!! (Not really, but he was low key). Thank you James for the best birthday present! All of my friends loved the music and had such a great time- thanks to you! People were literally dancing for hours! We don't know really where we stand on our opinion of fig media. Will we use them? Don't know yet. Still marinating. We went for a consultation for the MOD deal and it was not your typical consultation. We were there for nearly two hours, sometimes just shooting the bull but always rounding back to their services and styles. We walked in not wanting video, but were impressed with the short music video compilation we walked out wanting that more than any other service. The photo's shown were not above nor below average. Only one photo really caught our eye, and we looked through quite a few. We have yet to listen to the CD's of the various DJ's. They are pricey at $5,000 minimum for the basic packages, but we have yet to price these three services our a la carte. Maybe that is the right price, who knows. This is our first wedding you know. I would not go so far to say they are a cult as some of the previous posts. Most of my knowledge of cults has members not being so charismatic and happy to drop the f bomb as our consultants were. And they weren't wearing robes, which would have been a dead giveaway. They are involved with the Wright Graduate Institute for the Realization of Human Potential and Wright Institute of Lifelong Learning. You can find that information on their website and in some of the personal profiles of the staff members. Not knowing about the institute, I can't say if it is cult. Do cults have websites? But if a cult means taking your money in order to give you knowledge of some kind, then hell, I was in a cult for two years of grad school. read more

Wow. Just WOW. DJ Alvin and his drummer brought the house DOWN at our wedding. Countless guests mentioned how much they love the music and how cool our DJ and drummer were. Yes, read that right: DJ AND drummer! We didn't know this was a thing, but at our first meeting, Alvin shared this as an option and how it can create a more "live" feel. The music selections were everything we could have hoped for and the drummer was SO talented! I knew that I had found a DJ that I could work with when I saw Fig's "no play list" - no chicken dance, macarena, and other "wedding classics" that everybody hates. This is a company run by music geeks and they do an excellent job making your party fit YOU. If you have picky musical tastes and cringe at the idea of throwing a party with crappy music... this is the company for you. And even if you don't have picky musical tastes but appreciate a good DJ... this is the company for you. They are very professional and can be the highlight of your event!! read more

What can I say, Fig is an awesome business from top to bottom! My wife heard of Fig from an old friend of hers that used them for photos and DJ and were extremely pleased. My wife and I met James and Brent about 9 months or so before our wedding to discuss what we were looking for and what we could do within our budget. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by Brent, who is the Office Manager and one of the resident DJs. In all honesty, I've never met a more genuine and nicer person than Brent. He proved over the next 9 months to be incredibly helpful, kind, and attentive as he frequently contacted us to follow-up or just to see how things were going. When we contact him with questions he always answered right away. In our first meeting, Brent took copious notes and we discussed that we wanted to do photo, video and DJ. We said we had a limited budget and wanted to work something out. James was very helpful in discussing what Fig could do and that he was sure we could find some combination of the three services that we wanted within our budget. We appreciated the fact that at our first meeting we met with the owner and heard what his vision was for weddings and that Fig was excited to work with us. After our meeting we received a copy of the notes from Brent and we got down to business. In short, we came in for another meeting and we were able to find a way to do photo, video and DJ for the time we wanted within our budget. After we worked out the details and signed the contract we completed our "must play" list for the DJ. We soon found out that Alvin decided that he had to do our wedding based on our list and our musical tastes. When we heard how enthusiastic he was about doing our wedding it made us that much more excited to work with Fig. The icing on the cake, was that Fig DJs have a "no-play list" of songs they will not play, i.e. chicken dance, macarena, etc! We checked out Alvin online and he seemed like the real deal. Soon after we were paired with Alvin we found that we were going to work with Brian as our photo and Tim for video. We quickly found a time to meet at Fig and sat down with them all to hammer out a rough timeline and how Alvin would handle the music at our ceremony space and the intros, first dance, cake cutting, etc at the reception site. We also talked about what we were looking for from each of them and for our wedding day and where we were thinking of taking pics. We had a great meeting and came out feeling great. In between this meeting and our wedding day we had frequent contact with Brent and also had some good follow-up with Alvin, Tim and Brian, specifically about shot locations for photos. Tim and Brian did some scouting of locations so when it came to the wedding day we had a plan. Fast forward to our wedding day and Brian and Tim arrived early than required by the contract and started filming and taking photos in my hotel room while the groomsmen and I got ready. After stopping by my wife's room we all headed out for photo/video in our predetermined locations. Both guys were on top of things, knew what they were doing, and where they wanted us. Oh, I forgot to mention that Tim set up a really special moment with my wife and I. Since we decided to do pics with the bridal party before the wedding and with family after the ceremony, Tim wanted to capture the moment my wife and I saw each other for the first time. Tim had me stand in an area outside the hotel with my back turned and told me when to turn around so I could see my beautiful bride for the first time. This was really special and something both of us appreciated since we never thought of it. Both Brian and Tim continued to be awesome and accommodating throughout the night as they took pics and video after the ceremony and at the reception. Finally, on to Alvin. He kicked ass and was a fantastic DJ and emcee, introducing the wedding party at the start of the reception and making sure the right music was played at the right time (father-daughter dance, our dance, etc). We gave Alvin a pretty detailed list and he followed it pretty much to a T. Everyone raved about the music he played that night and really kept people on the dance floor. What we really appreciated about Alvin and Fig was their ability to have an assistant come down to handle the music for the ceremony, which went off without a hitch. And, to boot, Alvin was kind enough to send me the mix he made that played during the cocktail reception in the garden space. My only complaint was that the mic sound for the speeches was really off. We think part of it was due to the concrete walls in the space but after talking to a knowledgeable friend he thinks it had something to do with the mic input being used incorrectly. It was a bit of a disappointment not being able to hear the speeches clearly, but overall a small thing in the grand scheme. All in all, don't hesitate to book Fig for your wedding or other event! read more

We just got married and thought Fig was awesome. Our dj, Alvin was so in tune with our style and with the crowd that the party just kept going from the second the music started! We were initially intrigued because fig specifically does not play the chicken dance and electric slide which I think is part of the appeal. We really liked how we were essentially matched with a DJ based on our musical tastes. Our DJ was accommodating the entire process and was always in touch via email. He made suggestions and had us think about songs and moments that we previously hadn't considered. I would definitely recommend these guys though it isn't for everyone. If you're an older couple that is used to the cheesy DJs with cumberbuns, then this is not going to be a good option. As for the negative review...I'd disregard that. It doesn't really even make any sense. You've seen that the positive reviews are all after the event which is the most important thing! read more

Brent Rolland was the DJ for our wedding, but played a much bigger role than expected in the best way possible. He was extremely professional, knowledgable, fast to respond, easy to work with, and organized throughout the entire process (Didn't hurt he was a Star Wars fan!). He was very flexible meeting with us and felt like we were working in an old friend instantly. He came to the wedding rehearsal which everyone was very impressed by and wanted to walk us through what would be going on so we felt ready. We really appreciated his helpful suggestions for planning the critical music selections and because of his expertise we were able to focus on adding our own personal touches here and there. DJ Megan Taylor did our wedding this past April. We booked Megan three years ago and we had to push our wedding out because of Covid until 2021. Megan not only did an AMAZING job on our wedding day she was also very consultative throughout the planning process. She worked to understand the type of event we wanted to have, she asked thoughtful questions, and she shared with us what she has seen from her years in the business of what makes a great wedding from a music and entertainment perspective. Additionally, we were very concerned about the impact that Covid would/wouldn't have on our dance floor. We were unsure whether our guests would dance at all and Megan put our minds at ease with these concerns as she assured us she would be prepared for any of the paths down which our day would travel. Megan felt the energy of our cocktail hour and dinner very appropriately. And she was able to handle the change of the agenda for the evening with a lot of grace. When it came time to open up the dance floor Megan met the energy of our guests and then brought us up to higher and higher levels of aliveness, fun, togetherness, and rhythm that was amazing. It was the most energetic dance floor of any wedding we have ever been to and she kept the energy up for as long as guests were willing to dance which was well over two hours. Throughout the evening, she hit every song on our short-list of must-plays (which wasn't a very short list at all, it had over 20 songs on it). Our wedding was electric bliss because of Megan and we couldn't have asked for a better entertainer for our most special day. I planned an international kick off meeting/ celebration that we normally host in person for 100 women CEO's/ leaders from around the world in July 2020. Alvin was the DJ for our recent wedding at the University Club and was absolutely fantastic! We met before the event and he was both professional and helpful, answering all our questions and making us feel confident that the music for the evening would be perfect. We had Brent at our wedding in September at Morgan's on Fulton and he is nothing short of awesome! Upon getting a recommendation for him specifically, my now husband and I met up with him for coffee and instantly felt comfortable with him. He asks a lot of questions that might seem unnecessary, until you realize they are completely necessary for building a profile on you as a couple. It clearly shows he knows exactly what he is doing to get the outcome you envision. We met a few times prior to the wedding, talked on the phone, and texted which made me feel like we were always a priority. Brent was super involved in our process including coming to our walk through with the venue to make sure he understood the timeline of the event, where and when things were happening, etc. The day of, he was the height of our wedding - everything was completely on point with what we were looking for for the vibe of our wedding vs playing cheesey wedding music that you kind of hate hearing. After the reception, he played our afterparty which people are still talking about now as one of the best after parties and probably the best part of our wedding. On top of Brent being very professional and involved from start to finish, Brent is just a really great human. He's incredibly kind, thoughtful, and funny and just an all over pleasure to work with. We were lucky enough to have Brent as our DJ and James as our photographer for our son's Bar Mitzvah. We couldn't have been more thrilled with Brent and James and how the night went. The whole experience with Fig was perfect from start to finish. Right from the start, James and Brent listened to what our son and we wanted, had great ideas, and then made it all happen. They took our vision, and added great ideas that we never would have come up with but were exactly what we wanted. Brent's DJing was the hit of the party. He made sure everyone had a great time--from kids, to adults, to grandparents. Despite our "shot list," he didn't try to force formal family shots when the party was going strong but captured everyone we wanted captured with a unique vantage point and great eye. We could not have had a better experience with the Fig team! Our photographers, Brian and James, were just incredible. They are both so talented, we have so many incredible photographs that we honestly cannot choose which to frame and display in our home. They were both so professional to work with--Brian even helped carry my wedding dress through the Zoo and they were both so willing to do whatever necessary to get the perfect shot. Our videographer Elle was just a doll--we can't wait to see all of the footage! And our DJ Alvin III really knocked it out of the park. Because of my broadcast background, I am probably one of the worst kind of clients for this type of business. This does not excuse Fig Media on how to do business. My fiance had initially reached out to Fig Media for video of our wedding. Their portfolio looked good online, so we had a brief meeting at their offices on a Friday. After having a nice, all smiles meeting, discussing ideas and expectations with Michele (the president) and her staff, we received an e-mail with pricing options on Monday. Don't you think it should have been in a formal document? Huh. After discussing with my fiance about budget, we wanted to fall into a certain price range, but I wanted to see a rough cut preview of the edit before the final dvd. They charged extra for this. Huh. You think a client would have the prerogative of the final video and not have to pay extra...hmmmm? So, on Wednesday, I called Michele and left her a voicemail. She returned my call midday but I was unavailable to take her call. I suggested we speak at 4pm so I can give her my full attention. At this point, her voice was cold and stoic, but I assumed she was busy with her day. At 4pm she called and I discussed rolling the price of the rough cut into the initial package. This is where it got awkward. All I heard was that her staff was super busy and over stretched on our wedding day and that she couldn't even think about absorbing the cost. What does that have to do with editing after the wedding? Then the alarm went off in my head. If they are so busy, do you think we would get the full attention our day deserves? When I asked her that question, she said I wouldn't talk to you if we couldn't "accommodate" you. The sarcastic dripping tone she used was so offensive and unprofessional, I was like "WHA? Really?" Then I told her I had to speak to my fiance and I would get back to her in the morning. Now this is the ass kicker. She told me she need an answer by 5pm. Well, it was 4:30 at this point. Does that really give a couple enough time to make a proper decision? After I pushed back and said that she never communicated that she needed and answer today, she reluctantly said she can wait until 7pm. Hear that...that's the sound of straw breaking the camel's back. Thanks, but NO. Lemme "NO" that again, just to be clear. Fig Media does not know how to collaborate and scale a project properly. We were only a few hundred away and it was not a big deal. It's a client's prerogative to try to save money and not be treated rudely. This experience was a BLINDING red light not to work with Fig Media. BTW, I wrote this whole post with my middle finger. read more

I wouldn't recommend Fig to my worst enemy. They are ridiculously overpriced, unprofessional, and take forever to complete their final product. It took over a year to get a simple wedding video edited and returned. read more

My husband and I hired Fig Media for deejay services after meeting with Brent. I really felt confident about our decision. The day of our wedding, we had Kelly Brown as our deejay. Kelly had called me a few weeks before the wedding and we only had a two minute phone conversation, which I thought was a little odd. The day of our wedding I knew we were in trouble when it took nearly an hour for Kelly to figure out how to introduce us. I had filled out a questionnaire with the names of our bridal party in order, but Kelly did not have this in hand, even though I spent hours filling this information out for her. Furthermore, my mother became ill, so we had do a minor change with intros. During the introductions, she called groomsmen by the wrong name (e.g., "Mark" instead of "Mike") and she never introduced the people dearest to my heart - my own mother and brother (who walked me down the aisle). The order of events seemed very odd as well. She did the parent dances and then my husband and I didn't dance for another hour or so (more on that later). My husband had to ask Kelly to get our speeches started and when my husband went to do his speech to thank everyone, it appeared as though Kelly forgot who he was and he had to introduce himself. During dinner, I couldn't hear any of the music. And when I could hear the music it sounded as if she would change the song mid-song. It was just odd. When it came time for my husband and I to dance our first dance - that was fine...until the music ended, there was about a minute of dead air time. Usually there is a song or announcement to open up the dance floor. My husband had to ask her to start playing music. We went about 2 hours without a slow dance, then she played a solid 45 minutes of straight slow songs. At this point guests started to lose interest and left to go to bars (didn't help that the Cubs game was on). I had countless guests that asked for requests that were never played. And she told guests that certain songs were on the bride's "do not play list" so I had to answer to angry guests at my own wedding. Utterly ridiculous. Our other venders even said something to me about the deejay - since we were so behind due to the long intros, dinner service was rushed. The manager of the venue apparently deejays in his spare time, and actually had to coach Kelly through the night. Even he was angry for us and questioned Kelly's experience. The only upside to this whole thing is that the Fig Media team immediately reached out to my husband and I the next day. They were genuinely concerned with our experience and I really appreciated their level of customer service. Believe me - I wanted to have an amazing experience and I will never get those lost memories back, since the entire night I was so stressed about the music (or lack thereof). I would recommend Fig Media; however not Kelly Brown. And the two stars are for the amazing level of customer service from Brent and the rest of the team. read more

DO NOT be fooled by any of the positive reviews of Fig Media. They're all fake. Having had the experiences I had there, there's no possible way anybody could give them a positive review. Fig Media (James and Michelle Gustin) are absolute monsters. I am deeply disgusted by my experiences here. I naively took my then-fiancee to Fig Media to talk about having the "Mod Deal" for our wedding. In the midst of our consultation, James took out a small black wallet and unzipped it, revealing a vial of what they would later tell me was insulin. He then proceeded to pull out a syringe, draw a small dose from the vial, and inject his bulging vein with medicine. Right in front of us! I nearly threw up from the sheer gruesomeness of watching this man shoot up in front of a potential client. It gave me the clear indication that it was not the first time. While we were there, I should note the conversation was interrupted every five minutes by the red line train roaring overhead-- this place is located directly underneath the Granville Red Line Stop. Between the screaming, crying employees and the dingy one-room environment, that would have been enough alone to be a deal breaker. They're unprofessional and inexperienced. We had Megan DJ our wedding after-party at The Drake and it was AMAZING!!! She took our playlist as direction and absolutely killed it. So many guests from the wedding - older and younger attended and said it was an absolute blast! I cannot recommend Fig Media and Megan Taylor enough.
