People were lined up out the door at this very cozy restaurant that comes highly rated. Our wait was short, about fifteen minutes, and I'm so glad I stood in line for this schnitzel. Served with only a lemon, the pork schnitzel is the best I've ever had and it was complemented well by a round of Radlers which I fell in love with after going to Figlmuller. We looked at some of the food around us that other people were eating and it looked good but I honestly don't know why you would go here if you didn't want schnitzel. We made reservations ahead for the Figlmuller and it certainly worked out! Although it is not air conditioned or had outdoor seating, the Figlmuller is worth a visit. After eating at numerous restaurants in Germany and Austria, this one has the BEST schnitzel! We ate at the original one and the waiter and manager, altough the restaurant was very crowded, were very helpful and nice. But once we politely asked the waiter if we can make a reservation for tomorrow night or the following night, the waiter simply said it was fully booked over few nights. We decided to try this restaurant based on so many favorable reviews. Just speaking for myself, I am afraid I was terribly disappointed with the overall experience. Yes, this is a popular spot with tourists and locals. Yes, this evening was no exception with lines out the door. Yes, I know in Austria and Europe in general, the whole restaurant experience is a much slower affair, relaxed affair. At some point however, the line between having a casual meal in a busy restaurant gets crossed and the customer becomes ignored and forgotten. Figlmüller jumped over that line and kept on running. We were seated at a small table right next to the bar where those who were waiting queued. So this was not a hidden corner spot, the host and several waiters walked back and forth between the bar and the rest of the restaurant. After being seated, we looked aver the menu and talked about our order. Meanwhile people were being seated and waiters were bustling back and forth. After five minutes I started to look around at the host and waiters hoping to catch someone's eye but when no one responded I told myself I was being impatient, to sit back and relax. After another five minutes I flagged down the host to ask about our waiter. A brusque "hold on a second" was my response. About another minute or so a waiter finally stopped by to take our orders. Our drink order came quickly, but I noticed other parties, who were seated after us already drinking and having soup! So I decided to time how long it took from the time a party was seated to when there orders were taken. I'll admit my sample size is small (n=2), I only sampled small parties, and those seated in the same front room/bar area. On average, 90 seconds was how long it took after someone was seated to when a waiter took their order. This discovery was unbelievable, it suggested the waiters and host had forgotten about us, even though we were right in front of their faces! The only saving grace was the food. The scnitzel is pounded thin and seasoned nicely. The accompanying salad is very interesting: salad greens over potato salad. Both were very tasty. An order of schnitzel, two small house salads, a glass of house rose, and a large bottle of still mineral water came to 39 euros. Is the food good enough to overcome the bad service experience...no unfortunately. I had potato salad and schnitzel in Prague that wasnot as thin, but just as good and way better service. Overall, if you're a local I am sure you know better places. If you're a tourist and are feeling lucky, try this place out and experience the ambience. If you rather not risk it, then I am sure there are plenty of other restaurants in town with schnitzel just as good and I much better service. read more

When in Wien, you must try the schnitzel at Figlmüller because 1) it's the most gigantic you may ever see and 2) it's delicious! We agreed that this was one of the best schnitzels we've had. We arrived a little before 6pm and were lucky enough to grab a table without reservations. Anyone who arrived after us without resos were told to go to the second location. We both ordered a schnitzel each as well as an order of the roasted potatoes. I suppose we may have missed out on the potato salad and greens by ordering the roasted potatoes...oops. The potatoes had a bit too much fennel for our taste too, so double oops. But that schnitzel! It engulfed the plate and you had to do a bit of maneuvering to keep in on the plate while you cut it, but the effort was worth it. The meat was pounded super thin, so every bite was crunchy from the crust yet tender and juicy. It ended up being far too much food so I took half of mine to go and we had it the next day for breakfast :) I highly recommend trying the schnitzel here. We have been to various restaurants serving schnitzels throughout our travels in the region this April, and we didn't expect too much as we figured it could be simply one of those over hyped places, but we were in for a surprise. The place was cozy and servers were very accommodating (we were lucky to have been given seats considering the lady from the night before said they were booked for three days more). The schnitzels were absolutely divine, and I even asked our server if what our guide said about them being thrice fried was true, and it was (with each one taking only about 18 seconds to prepare)! The marvel in their schnitzels was that even after being thrice fried, the meat retained it's juice and flavour, and I only seasoned it with pepper. The potato salad was also a treat as it helped cleanse the palate. I paired mine with a bottle of Almdudler and think it complemented well. I tend to think that Figlmuller is a must for tourists. Even though it is touristy, it is very charming and quite good. We went on a Saturday night about 9 without a reservation. We waited about 20 minutes. I would recommend making a reservation. The schnitzels were streaming by, hammered out to larger than the plate and every man in the room had one. And hardly anyone could finish it. It looked delicious, but I knew that I wouldn't make a dent in it, so I ordered the chicken cordon bleu. It was perfectly cooked with lots of cheese oozing out. The house gruner veltliner was a nice accompaniment as was the house green salad. When you order a salad in Vienna, you get potatoes, on the assumption, I guess that a meal isn't a meal wthout potatoes. So half of the salad is a potato salad dressed with a vinaigrette. I began to look forward to this in Vienna. It's a nice touch and they know their potatoes and what to do with them. Figlmuller's salad was very good. My two dining companions had the chicken schnitzel (Surschnitzel) and gave it rave reviews. (Tip: If you order the schnitzel, ask for extra lemon. Went with friends on a Friday night. We were a little lucky, as it was crowded, but we were seated quite quickly. There is a bit of an assembly line quality of get 'em in, get 'em fed, and then get 'em out, but I didn't care. Don't be put off by the fact that it's listed in so many guide books. It's not payola; it's just the truth. This place makes large, tender, delicious Wiener Schnitzel. We tried both the pork and the chicken varieties and were really pleased. The potato salad and field greens were perfect as well. So, why only 4 out of 5? I wanted a beer and they didn't have it! I just would have preferred it to wine.
