If you follow me, you know I'm a total stickler for a 'proper' latte, and this one hit every mark! It followed the Golden Ratio perfectly (1 part espresso to 3 parts silky steamed milk). My vanilla latte was so dreamy--perfectly balanced and velvety with the most precious foam heart on top. The barista was also such a sweetheart! She was so welcoming and made sure my drink was absolutely perfect. It's that extra bit of warmth that really makes a place special. I perused the gift shop area while I waited and fell in love with the vibe. The shop has these huge, gorgeous windows that let in so much cozy light, even on Oregon's rainy, gloomy days. The pastry and bread selection looked absolutely mouthwatering, too! I'll definitely be back to treat myself to a croissant next time. This café is such a welcome new gem in downtown Mac. Flag and Wire is in the Granary building off 5th and they roast their own beans, the facilities are great with plenty of room to visit, work, and meet...and merciful Mother Nature, they have a bathroom. I love their breakfast sandwiches. My kids adore the gluten free muffins Miss Kelly makes. Their coffee is my universal pick-me up. Mr. Doug never fails to make my kids smile, while Delaney and Peyton are always so patient and charming with the children. When I asked my son what special place he wants to go for his birthday dinner, he yelled "Duffy's" and the rest of them said "for me too!" He was so disappointed that it wasn't a dinner option, but you bet dollars to bagels (like the locally sourced ones stocked here) that we will be there for his birthday coffee!
