It's not going to win points for ambiance, but to feed your hunger for authentic home cooked Filipino food, you can't go wrong! A small restaurant/grocery store with a limited amount Filipino essential ingredients to cook your own favorites at home, and turo turo (point point) style spread available daily when you don't feel like cooking! The people who work there are always so friendly and eager to help! The store is somewhat small, and usually they have tables and chairs so that people can dine in, but those are currently not available due to covid. Overall score 4/5 solid.... I'm grading this just based on the food I had and will be back for more since they were out of the Adobo that I wanted. It seemed like fried fish was the hot item since everyone in line got it. If someone goes, let me know how it is since I'm a little iffy getting fish anywhere unless it's sushi or if I cook it. I got the Sigsig which looked like corned beef hash. It was fried pork skin, with shredded pork and onions. It was awesome! Not sure how it's supposed to taste since this is my first time trying something like that. The Filipino garlic rice was great, they make it fresh upon order. We also got the Filipino sausage which was a little on the sweet side. It had a snap to it and was very fattening and juicy. Pro tip, get the white rice to balance out the flavors since everything was very flavored. Get the garlic rice if you like it, I would still get it since it was great but I'll get white rice alone next time to balance out the flavor of the food. This is where Filipinos go to eat Filipino food. No nonsense, cafeteria style, and completely authentic cooking. If you're not Filipino, just go up to the counter and ask for some explanation about what the dishes are. It's about $7 for a two entree and rice deal. $10 minimum for the credit card. And if you've never tried it before, the $10 sisig is the go to dish to try. A bunch of fried pork goodness served up on a sizzling platter. Plus the $5 halo halo (literally translated "mix mix" of assorted sweet items tossed over shaved iced and condensed milk) is a nice dessert to finish the meal off. Enjoy! read more

I'm so happy to know that this restaurant and mini grocery store had improved its interior. The dining table was covered with table cloth, and the chairs arranged accordingly. There's three Filipino stores I know in Macomb County, Michigan, this Filipinas Grocery, is so far the biggest. We arrived around 7pm, and was greeted by the owner and her staff. Talk about Filipino hospitality, warm welcome and friendly. Looking at the grocery area, there's the usual Filipino style spaghetti sauce, sardines, snacks, lucky me pancit canton, bihon and mama Sita's variety mix. At the restaurant side, it was a bit late for us to buy pork adobo. What was left in the food warmer was the giniling. If you wan't to try their great Filipino dishes, be there brunch time. For that night, my husband bought his favorite hopia baboy for $3.99, it's like a dollar a piece. Bring cash if you will spend less than $10. They have a minimum for credit card purchase. I bought a standard size balikbayan box for $5. They said that pick up is every Tuesday. If you are going there late, ask them to wait for you before they close. That's very accommodating of them. It takes 2-3 months for the package to arrive to the Philippines. They mentioned from Michigan, the box is routed to Chicago, then to the Philippines. It will be my first time to send a box enroute to Visayas area for $80. The owner said, their name/store will be held liable if the courier company, Global will not deliver it safe to its destination. No weight restrictions. As long it fits inside the box. No bulges. No deadly items please, or the Philippine customs officer will open the box...right! We will be back to try their authentic Filipino Dishes! read more

I need to visit this place more often. This afternoon was my second visit in approximately 4 years. I remembered it being delicious, but I'm rarely out that way. Well, today was no disappointment. The store itself is cool because of the neat foreign groceries - a nice diversion, but the real star is the little 5 table diner that is attached. Ordering is simple: there are roughly 5 hot dishes, fried whole fish, fried fatback, and egg rolls. Today's menu - goat, sausage, pork adobo, and pork 2 other ways (I can't recall because I didn't try them). 2 hot dishes and rice is only $5.50! And Faye (the owner & a wonderful person) gives you a TON of food. Admittedly, I am not totally familiar with Filipino food, so the spice usage eludes me - all I know is that everything was totally delicious. The goat was tender; the sausages were sweet, smoky, and had a touch of heat; and the rice had really nice texture. I'd never tried pork adobo before today. Oh man, that is some incredible stuff. Lots of fat and tender meat in a spicy, sweet, velvety sauce - seriously, I could bathe in this stuff. Utterly decadent, this is definite comfort food. So, so good. When the ice machine is functional, halo-halo is served, which I've never tried. Ah well, I guess I'll have to go back! I have to mention Faye again. She was so friendly today. What a great place. My friend is Filipino and his mom and dad have had me try things over the year so I have a base knowledge of what to expect. Walking in there isn't much in the way of groceries. In fact the shelves are pretty bare bones. It feels as if the mafia are hiding in the back room counting money but I'm sure this is not the case. The reason everyone comes here is for the prepared food. Not only is is cheap, 2 items plus rice for 6.50 but its really good. It looks like they have 6 - 8 dishes to choose from. I let the lady order for me and was given a pork stew and sausage. Its been a long time since I've eaten this fast but it was so good and I really wanted more. I'm heading back there today to try something else. This could be a new go to restaurant for me. BTW - They do have a small dining area but meals appear to be ordered at the counter. With very few Filipino restaurants around and my mother miles across the US, I was in dyer need of good Filipino cuisine and perhaps some Filipino hospitality while I was at it. A small hole in the wall, half the space dedicated to groceries while the other a make shift restaurant, I felt right at home! The woman serving us our food was really sweet and acted like a 'tita' telling my boyfriend and I to keep eating. *Really bad filipino spelling ahead* The pancit was yummy, adobo like my mama's, and the menudo right on point. I even left with some pandesal and ensamada which was also delicious. I definitely recommend this place if you happen to be in the area! read more

Went to Filipina's Oriental Food yesterday, and the first the thing I noticed was the sign that said, "Under New Management"... That was the first warning sign for me. I have never been here, though have read the reviews by both Caroline and Joe, and well, I was interested in both the food, combo for $5.50, and the SUPER friendly Filipina behind the counter. Turns out, the person behind the counter here is not so friendly, not as excited to explain what the foods are, there was no detailed menu anywhere besides what was on the wall, and it had things written on it like: Goat, Pork, or Chicken - $5.00? I don't know Filipino food 100%, but I do know it can be cooked many ways, and it comes in different sizes. Well, I went with what I thought I knew, which was a large order of Pork Guisantes (Pork and Peas) and a large order of rice. That was dinner, TO GO. Then I also purchased from the "grocery" side: Red Hot Dogs (my favorite back home in Hawaii), Longaniza Sausage, some Puto (Small White Breads), and a bag of Baliwag Pandesal (Small, Yellow, Sweet-Bread type). Here is my review on those items: 1. Pork Guisantes - It was like nothing I have ever had (and NOT the good kind). I will never eat it from there again for two reasons. 1) They put livers in it. I am NOT a fan. 2) They put GRAPES in it - WTF? GRAPES??????? No! That should NOT be in there! NEVER. I don't care that it's like tiny. It should NOT be in Pork and Peas. Ever! 2. Rice - It was just ok. It was near the end of the day, so it was to be expected. 3. Red Hot Dogs - I have not yet got to try it, but I am sure there can't be ANYTHING wrong with it! ;-) Only one way to make it. Plus, it was manufacturered and is NOT home-made. So I trust it. 4. Longiniza Sausage - It was made in the restaurant and then frozen and available for sale on the grocery side. I cooked it this morning for breakfast and I give it 2 thumbs up. It was pretty good. Gentle with it's sweet flavor. Just perfect. 5. Puto - It is what it is... Semi-bland, but comforting. 6. Baliwag Pandesal - Very yummy! And VERY addicting. Hard to stop eating it once you start! All in all, I might be tempted to go here and try again, but reality is, I would not go towards the end of the day. You will absolutely be disappointed. read more

Wow, this place went down the pipes... quickly! I didn't think the shelves in this store could get any more bare but it has. I came for powdered Achuete and I managed to snag the last few bags available (even if I got over charged for them and didn't notice until I got home!). The place looks even more run down from the dirty tiles to the 50 year old looking deep freezers. Bless your heart if you decide to try and pry them open. The worst part, (yes it gets worse) is the service. Gone are the nice cheerful workers, now you are greeted with gawkers who are seated in a sofa directly when you enter. Their stares are enough to make you want to walk right out the door. Very unwelcoming. The food is mehhh. I've had much, much better (previous owners, where did you go?). There isn't anything tempting or mouth watering about it anymore. I bought enough Achuete to last me a long while.. by then, I'm sure I'll have another filipino store to hit up (which I already do). read more

During my monthly craving - men get it too - I'm in need of my Filipino cooking. My mouth screams at me to feed it that delicious traditional cuisine. Since the number of Filipino restaurants are sparse, I come to Filipinas. Don't get me wrong, I ALWAYS seek out other Filipino restaurants in the area, but Filipinas always hits the spot! The food reminds me a lot of home so it's always nice walking into the restaurant and feel invited. The toro-toro is very traditional. I thought the food is decent and normal Filipino cooking. The worst customer service ever! My husband and do not live in the area and were looking for some authentic Filipino food. First we called to make sure they were open due to covid orders. We got there about 11:50am and most of the food were already gone. Keep in mind, this was our first time here and so we don't know how they operate and were unsure if they were going to make more or if that was it for the day. We asked the guy behind the glass casing if there was any chicken adobo and he replied to us, "Yeah" and points to the liquids of a clearly empty food tray under the heater and proceeds to say "of what's left of it." Let me tell you, this is a grown ass man who insisted to sell us some leftover liquids from a chicken adobo dish. How rude is that?!! That was very demeaning and a slap to the face. We wanted to spend our hard earned money on your food but now we won't ever set foot here again because you don't deserve it. Bye Pelicia! read more

This place is truly where Filipinos can hang out. It's like being in the Philippines. The owners are delightful, so friendly, and very accommodating. I know people who ask for some Sabaw (broth) and they are given it for FREE. The food is especially delicious. And they have new short order items like tapsilog. Their sislg is to die for. And they are famous for their Halo halo. You can watch Filipino tv fr free too.. I know the reviews here seem pretty bad.. But these are new owners for the past year now, and by far the best in the state.. So honestly, I just could not disagree more with the other reviews.. Tried their hot entrees for the first time today. Arrived a little after 12 noon. Quite a few Filipino's dining & and carrying out. My Tita and I each went with the choice of 2 entrees & rice for $6.49. I chose the beef apritada & curry chicken (thighs). She went with the longonisa (not made in house, Pampanga brand) and bulanglang. About 10-12 different selections were available Whole fried fish choices looked really good. My Tita chose fish for carry out. Our entrees were warm, not hot. Rice came straight out of the rice cooker. All served and eaten with disposable plates & cutlery placed on a tray (cafeteria style set up). All entrees tasted good and were cooked properly. Self serve condiments area of patis (fish sauce), soy sauce and vinegar. Also complimentary self serve water. Seating area is spacious enough. Flat screen tv seating area has the Filipino Channel playing. If you are looking for something beyond cafeteria style set/up & service don't come. If you want good Filipino food at a decent price with no frills, then come! I would return and plan on it. I do suggest you give this small local owned business a try. In addition to the eatery area you can purchase a limited selection of Filipino groceries (canned, frozen) and fresh delicacies (leche flan, ube roll, mocha roll, hopia baboy, pan de sal, etc.). My Dad and I come here once a month every Wednesday for great authentic Filipino food. With so few in the metro area I'm lucky to even to have one here. I'd would have to call this little hole in the wall a reach to back home delight. They have assorted foods from soups to fried goodies and sweets that is hot and ready. They also have a general assortments of Asian grocery item but I only stick to what's on the menu. The price is affordable and the company is even better. This family owned restaurants/grocery store has a friendly staff and has a diverse customer base. I always have a very pleasant experience here. Will be back next Wednesday. read more

When u like some food to eat and u want to buy for it, the owner will tell u that food that u want to buy is already reserved for their other customers! U can't buy what u want to eat! because it's owned by someone! So, the food that u want was already reserved to those some of their customers! What kind of restaurants is this? If ur not their customers always u can't buy what their selling! Because it's already reserved! I bought a lot of groceries the old lady and people inside keep talking in tagalog in staring at me that I have a lot of stuff in my cart! And the owner asked me that if it is just fine to my husband that i buy a lot of goods? He will not get mad at u? My question why ur asking such questions like that? Are u a reporter or spaying ur customers!? What do u cares about what? Why u have such a lot of questions to me!? When I paid my stuffed, 1pc of vinegar, lotion etc I paid double the price?! What ??!!! The owner of this Filipino Oriental Food will easily be rich by collecting double price of some of my groceries! I tried to get the money back! My family and I are from the Bay Area in California, so we been to all the Pinoy restaurants that you can find in that place. My standards rating for this place would be 2 stars. I was expecting more from this place because they have less competition in Michigan and they should have done more to make the place more Filipino especially the atmosphere when you step in. Just like in Las Vegas, where there are less Pinoy restaurants. There is a Pinoy restaurant that is like 9 miles from the strip but a lot Pinoys go to that place because of the Pinoy atmosphere the moment you get thru the door. the staff are so hospitable.
