It used to have a produce section, right in front of the front windows, a space now occupied by stacks and stacks of La Croix cases. I'm no fan of La Croix and I eat an apple and/or a banana most days but I can imagine how the current arrangement is working out better for their bottom line. They used to have kombucha on tap, something that had been sitting unused for awhile and was just recently removed. That was just laughably hipster to me. I'll drink kombucha in the bottle sometimes, which MM still has in their fridge, and I just had to wonder, do you really need kombucha on tap? Obviously, it turns out you don't. This market is on the small side, just packed with stuff, and they stay open late. It's what I imagine a New York City bodega is like. They have more energy drink selections than anyone should need and a very Detroit amount of blunt wraps behind the register. Backwoods and the like take up most of that wall. MM has the same mediocre prepackaged sandwiches, wraps and pasta salads as Marcus Market and I feel like I should know the name of the company that puts them together by now. For convenience sake I often grab em as sustenance on the way to work. They're nothing special but they get me through the day. Midtown Market has nowhere near the floor space, selection or general charm of Marcus, though, and it actually felt disloyal to use the abbreviation MM to refer to Midtown Market earlier in this review. They're friendly enough here, but me and the Marcus crew go way back and again, no cat is hurting this young upstart here. The thing is, Midtown Market is a little less out of my way going into work and that crucial five minutes can make me late, so I often find myself in here. Midtown Market ain't bad for what it is, they have a few staples here but if you're looking for more of a full on grocery store (with freshly made smoothies and tacos during certain hours) try the neighborhood OG market like 3 blocks away.

The store is small but there is something for every need. It's not far from Wayne State's campus so this is the perfect area for a little market. The clerks are friendly and always responsive. Go often and also pick up locally-baked treats from there!

One of my biggest pet peeves about the people who talk crap about Detroit is when they say that it…read moreis a "food desert." This couldn't be farther from the truth. According to some, the lack of a Walmart or Meijer in the city means there is nowhere to grocery shop. The truth of it is there are tons of LOCAL stores down here (Eastern Market, Harbortown, and Goodwell's, among others, and Food Pride as I have discovered!). Food Pride is a full scale grocery store located on Warren in Midtown Detroit. It has a huge stock of products, specifically it has a great selection of fresh produce and meats, which is a common complaint that people have about grocery shopping in the city. Fruits, veggies, meats, fish are all very big parts of my diet so this made me really happy! Price-wise they are not rock-bottom or anything but they do have competitive prices and they accept manufacturer's coupons, which is great for students like me trying to save some money. Overall, it is an (unfortunately) unadvertised hidden jewel in this city that I wish more people knew about!

Stopped in to get some things for sandwiches. Today is June 4th and there packages of sliced ham and turkey that expired in the beginning and middle of May, and a package of ham that expired April 12th. Is anybody going through their meats for expired items or do they just not care? I've noticed not a single employee or manager has addressed any of the comments here about expired meats, so I'm guessing they just don't care.

Indian spices/prepackaged foods, convenience store goods, some staple groceries…read more Newish location for this oldish area favorite (on Wayne campus, just north of Warren at Anthony Wayne - parking can be a pain in the ass during class hours). A place to find whole and ground spices prevalent in Indian cuisine, in addition to ghee, many oil, rice, and flour options, and a large variety of prepackaged and quick-to-prepare Indian stovetop kits (I don't really care for these items, when making your own homemade dinners takes less than an hour in most cases - but if really pinched for time and craving certain flavors, have at it). You can also get convenience store dependables (junk foods, pantry tins/jars, plastic cups/cutlery, etc), and eggs, milk, butter, and a few kinds of produce in the back (i noticed okra). Where Meijers failed me (in my hunt for mustard seed oil and chick pea flour), Little Asia Mart saved the day. Worth taking a peek around.

However, they do have. Very limited stock and the prices keep on increasing as months are passing by. The staff is friendly and helps you navigate through. The place is a bit too small to hold up more than what it already does. Vegetables are normally fresh and I have never had any issues with the things I have bought here. But a gallon of milk $4.95 is a bit too much considering university foods sell it for $3.95 which is about 0.5 mile away. They do have other convenience store items here as well.
